Extreme heat warnings about done for the week, a few slightly cooler days ahead.  Fencing project will resume as of next week- waiting on a couple chain strainers to arrive. Season 7, Episode 25~ After the Flood... 21.06.2026

The farm fared well during the big rain- driveway washed a bit but the county road did not, at least not on our end too much.  A miracle. Garden and goats doing well, another couple posts were set in the field. Acorn dropped the Facebook Marketplace Bike off to get a tune up, and Saturday gave them a bag of accessories to install... Tires/tubes/saddle/pedals.  Will get it almost to be a brand new...

Farm chores have been a tad bit limited doe to the weather, namely rain...  And more rain...  And if not rain at the farm then a toad-strangler in Springfield and had water from the yard find its way under the house.  Gutter drain extensions (the black 4" x10 long sections) should noodle the water on away. Acorn got her application FedEx'd to The Great White North...  Project completed. ...

Grass is growing, fields needed another clipping as the old bush hog did not do all that great.  Much better with the new equipment. Lil' Honker is having fun running around with the 6 adults. Blind Hog and Acorn been doing the usual chores, and Acorn just might be wrapping up the Canadian Citizenship application.  Like being back in school, doing a research project.

Woooo hooo!  The farm got rain...  Unfortunately, it is a month's worth in a couple days, but hard to complain. Zucchini is growing like mad, did anyone say "zucchini boat for lunch???" Fencing project is getting rolling- fence in section 1 is down, 2 wooden posts set. Acorn is working on applying for Canadian Citizenship by Ancestry...  More of a "because she can" thing-...

Farmers have been up and at it this week- no trips to the big city either! Blind Hog dealt with an elm Acorn had him cut down- the limbs were touching the roof (horrors!).  It got hauled to the North 40.  Acorn had planted the beans in the garden and today it is like Jack and the Beanstalk out there...  Even the tomatoes are taking off.  Had a good soaking rain (1.41" total) and every drop he...

Field clipping completed, the little Kioti and the new rotary cutter did swell with Blind Hog in the driver's seat.  The farmers usually get the fields clipped by this time- will keep the grass growing and not put all the energy into seed production. Fescue is growing so Blind Hog is clipping the seed heads off- problem was, the old brush hog twisted the back wheel (again) and it damn near got tore off.  Acorn found several other stress fractures in the rotary cutter deck so Blind Hog got Acorn an Mother's Day present...  A new rotary cutter. Acorn does admit, it fits the new Kioti quite well and trails along behind it nicely. Garden work...

Yup- Blind Hog and Acorn took the stock trailer to Menard's to get treated lumber for the fencing project, the greenhouse and a french drain.  Holy moley!  Good thing prices were checked online first, or there would have been even more grumbling! Four lil' honkers out, buyer cannot get them for another week.  They may be half-grown by then!  Acorn has plans for an outdoor gosling run as well as fenced-in above ground coop pen for them.  Blind Hog brought down the old cattle mineral feeder on skids for the coop, and the 4'x5' pen used for previous peeps and honkers. Might get down near 30F at the farm by dawn, Acorn has covered up the tender plants, closed the ends of the low tunnel.  Brought in Bravo and Charlie goosies' eggs in, Delta is sitting on hers today. Raised beds have been getting improved with goat barn compost. Blind Hog has been moving rocks from one pile to another. Acorn baked a loaf of sourdough.  Been feasting on asparagus and salad greens from the garden. "Barely used" shoes from Ebay are the cat's meow...  Makes fora very happy Acorn, especially when the style has been discontinued.

Blind Hog and Acorn have had a relatively easy week- morning walkies with Sam, a trip to Springfield.  Fence work planning going on along with pasture management and gardening. Morels, asparagus, seed starting...  Lilacs and Japanese cherry trees blooming...  Kind of.  That last hard freeze really killed off a ton of fresh growth.  Here is to hoping that was the last hard freeze!

Blind Hog and Acorn had the usual week for chores, then broke bad and went to a real theater movie (Project Hail Mary) and wrapped up the week double-dipping and attending two No Kings events. Farmers are a bit tuckered out, to say the least...  Deets are in the podcast...

Behold, the Vernal Equinox has arrived!  Temps from the low teens to the 90's in a mere week! Blind Hog and Acorn have been busy...  Piddle chores, gardening, goating, limb-carrying... Acorn fixed the cord on the grill rotisserie, by removing the ground fault and replacing it with another...  The chicken was delicious...

Season 7, Episode #11~ Spring of Deceptions... 15.03.2026

Mid to upper 70's and and now lows in the teens expected?  Spring of Deception indeed... Acorn baked squash and got 6 lbs of pulpy pulp for future cakes.  Canned pumpkin, if you will... Three new barn cats joined the farm- all are bonafide mousers and come with resumes.  They are acclimating to the farm, and Sam, in the pig barn.  Got the "secure stall" all cleaned out for them.

The farm received much needed rain, and Big Fat Cow finally popped her triplets today.  No more waddling around for her! Geese have been a-layin'...  Acorn's new smartwatch is alllllll about "Body Battery" and getting enough rest.  NOT what you can do when kids keep being born- lol... Daffodils are up, rhubarbs busting out.  Plum trees about to bloom as well.   Will they finall...

Will the farm see a week of rain?  perhaps.  Round #2 of kidding is about to begin, so why not? Trip to KC for auto work, then IKEA.  Lots of chores getting done around the farm.  Even got watercress for the honkers.

Blind Hog and Acorn have been busy...  Goose huts completed, a break in the weather and an impromptu trip off the farm to Hot Springs National Park and Crater of Diamonds State Park. Wheeeeee!  All the funs!  Alas- but no diamonds were discovered...

Blind Hog and Acorn had a busy week- cleaning, farm chores, sausage making and also a trip to the art museums in Arkansas for some plain old fun. Finally getting some decent rain, but will it be more than a drop in the bucket?  Time will tell!

Blind Hog was getting ready to load the cattle chute on the buyer's trailer when OH NO!  A front tire was "off the rim" flat.  Nothing could be done but to soldier on. Chute loaded, tractor moved out of the drive, and the buyer just happened to have a cordless impact wrench...  Tried to reinflate the tire but alas, the bead would not set. About 7.5" +/- and it is a lovely powder.  Has already shrunk down to 3" in the past week. Bitter cold temps, livestock managing.  Goats have even been going out to the fields, even the big boys. Blind Hog and Acorn are going to be refencing, and both had the idea of looking into a survey prior to doing any work.  Much has been learned about the history of the farm, the only known registered survey (circa 1925), about how witness rocks were placed not at corners exactly, but in the survey line "near" the corners.  Much fun trying to find them.  They have 2 down, 2 to go...
