Black Cap Recap

Our thoughts on the current state of dialogue around AI/super-intelligence. Two years ago we covered the book "The Coming Wave" - is the wave about to crest, still a ways off, or a mirage altogether?

Our rewatch of Black Mirror continues with "Fifteen Million Merits," an episode that starkly reflects our current digital landscape.

We're returning to Black Mirror with an episode-by-episode (re)watch, starting with the controversial series premiere "National Anthem".

A cautionary dark comedy/action tale on our current AI inflection point, drawing inspiration from Black Mirror, The Matrix, and the Terminator franchise. This one probably flew under your radar, but we give it a full take.

We're back in Westeros for the Dance of the Dragons! The season starts with a 2-episode pay-off (and fall-out) of Season 2's lead-up. Some storylines were hit or miss for us, but overall this is a return to form for the show heading into the fourth and final season.

A belated analysis of Christopher Nolan's adaptation of "The Odyssey".

Our thoughts on Toy Story 5 and the franchise overall.

We dive into the subtext and themes of middle-age malaise, personal non-integration, male friendship, and the modern state of masculinity in this unconventional whodunit miniseries.

Join us for a "yearbook" discussion as we celebrate five years of recording together!

Sean's wife Sarah joins for a special review of Project Hail Mary. Sean and Sarah are book fans, while Aaron had not read the book prior to seeing the movie. Our summary in brief: "Amaze, amaze, amaze"!

Our thoughts on the relatively quiet Season 1 finale and the show overall.

The climax of the story and an expertly-executed flashback!

The "inciting incident" and "rising action" phase of this Hero's Journey (Hero's Tourney?) with a tantalizing cliffhanger enhanced by the return of the GoT theme music with the beautiful Dunk and Egg theme layered in.

We dive into the new HBO Game of Thrones -universe show "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", covering the first two episodes.

Here's our immediate take on my first watch of Aaron's top movie for 2025. Taught pacing, great tension, instantly iconic villain, and a very prescient political and cultural backdrop.

Our combined best and worst movies and shows of 2025, along with surprises, let-downs, honorable mentions, and a long "still need to watch" list.

The finale episode of Pluribus season 1.

We cover a lot of ground over episodes 6, 7, and 8 heading into the finale this week!

Another nearly-solo performance from Rhea Seehorn in the first episode of the back-half of Season 1. As she learns more about the Joined, is it at the expense of her own personal growth in this situation?

Carol begins testing the Joined, seeking answers from Zosia but with unintended consequences. In our opinion, the best episode yet since the premiere!

"Join" us as we dig into the new Apple TV+ show from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan.

The 2010 sequel/reboot - also ahead of its time?

Sean's first viewing of TRON (1982) and Aaron's rewatch of the original and TRON: Legacy (2010) ahead of the release of TRON: Ares. We discuss how far ahead TRON was for it's time, but it's increasing relevance to today and the return of its now-vintage style.

Our thoughts on the final two episodes of Alien: Earth and the show overall.
