BIBLE STUDY PODCAST

Religion EN ↓ 124 episodes

As we all know, life can get crazy busy with well…life. Everyone has seasons that don’t allow for heavy time commitments to a weekly Bible study at their church or in their neighborhood. That’s why we’ve created a podcast space where you can come and go, as your schedule allows, that points you toward Jesus and His Word. Each season, a combination of our hosts – Kristy Allen, Micah Harrison, Kelly Meadows, and Matt Winter – will discuss a Bible study and share with you what they have learned and how God is moving in their lives as they go through the study.

Our summer series continues with each person talking through what they are thinking about in their walk with the Lord. In this episode, Micah swirls around the ideas of what an act of worship looks like. Does every act of worship need to create a legacy that lasts for years? Is it okay to do something out of worship knowing that it will not last? Join us as we talk about small acts of worship, bei...

3 JOHN PT.2 23.02.2022

In this episode we discuss the ending of 3rd John and reflect on this past season of the Mission Hills Bible Study Podcast. We’ve spent 2 episodes on each of the 5 shortest books of the Bible. Our prayer is that you’ve seen that Scripture is so deep and rich that you could spend your whole life studying it, living it out, and never get to the bottom of it. We hope you’ve enjoyed this deep dive int...

3 JOHN PT.1 07.02.2022

Third John holds a unique place in the bible for a few reasons. First, it’s the shortest book of the Bible. Second, it’s a unique book in the New Testament because it is a personal letter that reflects ancient letters more than other books in the New Testament. John continues to focus on the intersection of truth and love, but now in the form of hospitality and ministry support. How do we apply Jo...

2 JOHN PT.2 25.01.2022

Last time, we went verse by verse through 2 John. So this time we are swinging the pendulum the other way and flying by the seat of our pants. We focus on what stood out to us from John’s letter and how to apply it to our lives. We get kind of emotional talking about God’s love for people and seeing them in the light of being worthy of love because they are made in God’s image. But that doesn’t me...

2 JOHN PT.1 07.01.2022

We throw a curveball, but hopefully a helpful one. We are going verse by verse and show you how to make observations and ask questions about a text. We spend a lot less time than usual drawing conclusions and explaining the text because we want to show you how we do this. It’s a pretty unpolished episode. Grab a bible, read through 2 John yourself, and then join us as we learn from this New Testam...

PHILEMON PT.2 16.12.2021

What a great discussion. Join us as we continue to wrestle with ideas, topics, and thoughts brought up in Philemon. We talk about slavery, fellowship, and intimacy within the church, Paul’s heart for the gospel, and much more. What does it take to apply Scripture to our own lives today? We talk about all these things in today’s episode.

PHILEMON PT.1 08.12.2021

Take some time to read Philemon and then join us for our round one studying this book. We grapple with cultural differences, the idea of unity and perfect wording in the midst of hard and messy situations, and give a thorough background all while we are just a little tired. Paul pushes us to look at what the next steps of unity, love, and community look like in our own lives. Also, listen in to le...

OBADIAH PT.2 17.11.2021

Wow! This episode is jam-packed with fun themes, application, and interpretation! We explain the “Day of the Lord,” the importance of literary genre in interpreting the Bible, how Hebrew verbs work, pride as the source of disobedience. A few other things that get time in this episode: The Tower of Babel, the principle of “an eye for an eye,” and the Singapore Airport, mountains, and possessions. W...

OBADIAH PT.1 04.11.2021

Obadiah is such an incredibly beautiful book, filled with all sorts of poetry and historical references. Join us as we view Obadiah through different lenses. Taking time to focus on the big ideas of the Day of the Lord, the attitude of arrogance, and the family relationship of Jacob and Esau.

JUDE PT.2 19.10.2021

Join us as we take a second look through the book of Jude. It is incredible that we can spend more and more time going over the same verses while getting out something completely different. In this episode, we focus on the application woven throughout the book of Jude. Listen in, as we talk about the culture of Christ, how to “mull” on scripture, and the importance of truth in our faith.

JUDE PT.1 07.10.2021

We’re diving into the book of Jude! In this episode, we focus on the way Jude uses a lot of Old Testament and other literature in his letter. What is he doing? Why is he using so many other sources? Jude even quotes from a book called 1st Enoch, which is not in the Old Testament. What do we do with that? Jude is writing against false teachers, warning the church to watch out for people distorting...

In this episode, we finally meet Ezra, the man. Matt and Neil discuss Ezra Chapter 7, where Ezra himself finally shows up. This chapter is shorter, so we get to dive deeper than usual. We see God again working in the heart of a new king to support Israel. Ezra interprets history through the lens of God’s sovereignty. The king gives Ezra a crazy amount of resources and power to Ezra. And we get to...

EZRA CHAPTERS 5 + 6 12.05.2021

In this episode, Matt and Neil discuss Ezra chapters 5 and 6. God uses people to move his plans forward. He turns around the plans of his enemies and uses them to fund Temple construction. The second Temple is rebuilt and begins a new period of Jewish history called Second Temple Judaism. The rebuilding of the temple foreshadows the greater temple that was still coming: Jesus. Now we are the Templ...

EZRA CHAPTER 4 21.04.2021

In this episode, Matt and Neil delve into Ezra chapter 4. The people living in the land try to discourage and slow progress on the temple construction. Are these the ancestors of the Samaritans from Jesus’ time? Learn how the Israelites respond to generations of opposition. What does it look like for us to live our lives faithfully when faith is difficult? Join us for this episode of the Mission H...

EZRA CHAPTER 3 07.04.2021

In this episode, Matt and Neil dive into chapter 3 of Ezra. The Temple foundation is finally laid, but the older generation starts weeping while the younger generation cheers. What is happening? Has God’s promise failed? Or is this merely a step toward something greater? Find out in this episode of the Mission Hills Men’s Bible Study Podcast.

EZRA CHAPTER 2 24.03.2021

In this episode, Matt and Neil discuss the first return to the land led by Zerubbabel in Ezra chapter 2. Neil struggles to pronounce some Hebrew names. But really…we talk about why the list of names is important and what we can take away from it. We talk about taking a “step of faith”…well the Israelites walked 900 miles on faith. And we explain the mysterious role of the Urim and Thummim. The sto...

EZRA CHAPTER 1 10.03.2021

After years of living in exile in Babylon, a prophecy from decades before is finally coming to pass. God has begun to fulfill his promise to restore the nation, land, and temple to Israel. Matt and Neil dive into the first chapter of Ezra. It’s nations conquering nations, and God is working behind it all. Did you know God used Cyrus the Great and the Medo-Persian empire to work out his own purpose...
