Better Lighting

Leisure EN ↓ 44 episodes

Better Lighting is based on the idea that the difference between the boring humdrum of daily life and the crisp sheen of the silver screen is simply better lighting! Ed and Dan won't admit it, but they're film buffs who won't shut up about it. (Don't get them started on the MCU Civil War debate again!) They're also avid gamers and generally into all things nerdy. Consider this your one-stop shop for nerd culture and general discussion from the perspective of two very opinionated people. So yeah... ANOTHER podcast. But at least this time there's Better Lighting!

Episodes

The One Where Dan Fixes Every Sport 06.07.2026

In this episode, the boys spiral into one of their most chaotic debates yet: should combat sports be… scripted? Dan unveils his “world‑class” idea for a fake martial arts league — somewhere between UFC, Tekken, and theatre — and Ed spends the entire episode trying (and failing) to talk him out of it. They dive into why wrestling works, why movies trick us into believing in perfect roundhouse kicks...

The One Where Billionaires Still Complain 29.06.2026

In this week’s episode, the boys return after a short break and immediately spiral into the big questions: Why do humans seem wired for suffering? Is happiness even the point? And why do men want companionship but also desperately want to be left alone? From billionaires with “better quality problems” to monks chasing serenity, from the Matrix Architect’s failed utopia to the chaos of modern datin...

The One With The Battling Directors 22.06.2026

The episode opens with Ed fighting hay fever like it’s his final boss. Daniel tries to start a normal conversation about comic book movies, but Ed is too busy sneezing, wheezing, and declaring himself a victim of “the uncool person affliction.” From there, the boys attempt to rank the best superheroes — and immediately derail into a full MCU meltdown. Thor gets roasted. Love and Thunder gets absol...

The One With Uber-Man Glen Powell 08.06.2026

The boys are back on form doing what they do best…Nope. That doesn’t sound right. Doing the best they can ?Yeah. Let’s go with that. Daniel and Ed return to their ongoing bromance with Glen Powell, this time diving into How to Make a Killing . And somehow—against all odds—this movie has broken them in a brand‑new way. Shockingly, they might actually have a point this week. I know. We’re all surpri...

The One Where Three Nerds Touch Tips 01.06.2026

This week, the boys were ambushed. Truly ambushed. A rogue listener wandered into the recording like a confused NPC and, despite being asked (politely, then impolitely, then spiritually) to leave… he simply refused. So yes, there’s a stray human rustling around in the background. Yes, the audio is a bit wonky. And no, the boys have absolutely no explanation. Maybe there was something in the water,...

The One With Time Travel, Bleak Futures And Artificial Intelligence 04.05.2026

This week, the boys (Ed and Daniel) suddenly remember that they are—at least in theory—a movie podcast, so they sit down to watch Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die . Shockingly, they actually have thoughts. Even more shockingly, some of those thoughts are almost coherent. There’s a lot to enjoy in the film, and the boys dive into its ideas about the future, humanity, and how we might coexist with AI…...

The One With The Guillotines 27.04.2026

The boys are back in town, bravely wading into topics that are—let’s be honest—several miles above their actual brain capacity. This week, Dan and Ed decide it’s finally time to tackle everyone’s favourite conversation starter… politics. Yes. Politics. Because what could possibly go wrong when two men armed with enthusiasm, half‑remembered documentaries, and zero qualifications start unpacking wor...

The One Where The Boys Go LGBTQ+HDMIPS5 20.04.2026

In this episode, Daniel and Eddie set out with the noble goal of becoming excellent allies to the LGBT+ community… and immediately prove they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. Their hearts are in the right place, but their ideas? Chaotic. Confused. Deeply unhelpful. Anyone with sense should probably not treat them as educators on this topic — but they are trying, and that counts for some...

The One Where AI Cheats, Christmas Disappoints, and London Floods Us Out 23.03.2026

The boys kick things off in full gremlin mode, warming up with cartoon voices, half‑baked accents, and whatever nonsense their brains produce before the caffeine hits. Once they’ve stopped making each other laugh, they dive into the tech rabbit hole: CES, modern monitors, and the new wave of “AI‑powered” features that may or may not just be cheating with extra steps. They fixate on MSI’s concept m...

The One Where Austin Butler Tries to Steal Our Hearts… but Caught Stealing Doesn’t 16.03.2026

This week the boys open with exactly the kind of nonsense you’ve come to expect: questionable accents, cartoon impressions, and a warm‑up routine that feels like two men trying to make each other break before the episode even starts. It works. It always works. Then they dive into Caught Stealing , a film they both agree is… fine. Perfectly fine. It has a beginning, a middle, an end — all the struc...

The One Where The Boy's Do It Together 09.03.2026

The boys this week take their friendship to the next level — bonded by a shared admiration for Alison Brie and an equally shared, entirely irrational, completely unserious dislike of Dave Franco. Why? No one knows. Not even them. It’s just one of those bits that got out of hand. There was a moment where Daniel tried to make a point about “the other Franco brother,” but after a quick Google search...

The One With Ballerinas and Frenchmen (For Those Who Come After) 02.02.2026

In this chaotic, barely‑coherent episode, Daniel and Eddie once again prove that letting them speak unsupervised was a terrible idea. They start by mangling the finer points of British small‑talk etiquette, confidently misunderstanding weather psychology, and then—because why not—launch into a wildly overcaffeinated breakdown of this year’s Game of the Year nominations. Expect the usual nonsense:...

The One Where Honey, Don’t Really… Didn’t 19.01.2026

The old farts are at it again. This week, Daniel and Ed’s quest to rewind the clock lands squarely on the state of modern gaming — back when all you needed for a perfect weekend was a mate, a sofa, and whatever controller they remembered to bring. Naturally, this spirals into an unreasonably passionate debate about which controller reigns supreme and why on earth any of them are laid out the way t...

The One Where The Girls Got The Baps Out 05.01.2026

Look, we know… we vanished again. But it’s a new year, so maybe get off our backs a little. The boys are finally back — fresh year, fresh look, exact same nonsense . And if you think we’re late, you’re even later, because this episode drags you all the way back to Halloween. This week, Dan and Ed dive into one of humanity’s greatest mysteries: how men can have a full‑blown argument, shake hands, a...

The One Where Scarlett Johansson Was Asian 24.11.2025

Daniel and Ed kick off the night by questioning their place in the anime world — two self-proclaimed “old men” still watching cartoons. Should they even be here? Who knows. But since this is a movie podcast, they’ve decided to double down on films, and this week’s pick is Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson. Spoiler alert: they hated it. Expect a full hour of grumbling, nitpicking, and...

The One That's All Sixes and Sevens 27.10.2025

Daniel and Eddie are back, stumbling their way into the rhythm of weekly episodes—emphasis on stumbling . This week, they confront the creeping realization that they’re officially too old to understand the kids: the idioms are nonsense, the music is just noise, and the cultural gap is widening like Eddie’s jeans. Eddie tries to coax out Daniel’s hidden appreciation for women’s fashion, while quest...

The One That Was Produced By Jordan Peele 20.10.2025

Behold: Jordan Peele single-handedly produced this episode... in the exact same way he produced Him —which is to say, not at all. Ed’s fresh off a Japan trip, Daniel’s still recovering from the group chat, and the boys finally sat down to watch a movie together: Weapons (2025), a mystery-horror flick they knew absolutely nothing about going in. Turns out, that made it better. Also in this episode:...

The One With Asian Whores, Chinese Food and Video Games 13.10.2025

Ed’s off to Japan, but before he disappears into vending machine heaven, the guys try to answer life’s big question: what does it mean to be alive? Their conclusion—good food, video games, and women—is so basic it hurts. Also: Gamescom happened. It was terrible. Or maybe Ed and Daniel are just getting old and jaded. Either way, the spark was missing. They’ve been quiet since, possibly napping, pos...

The One Where IceCube Is A Peeping Tom 22.09.2025

Ah, classic Ed—off chasing the horizon while the rest of us hold down the fort. “Globe trouting” sounds suspiciously like a euphemism for dodging responsibility with flair. I hope he at least brought back some exotic snacks or a story worth the detour. Back from his globe-trouting ego trip, and Dan’s still recovering from the cinematic dumpster fire that was the War of the Worlds remake. Together,...

The One Where Ed Admits He Hates Queen 18.08.2025

The boys are back. Life got in the way (as it does), but Dan and Ed returned with a vengeance—ready to record what was, briefly, the greatest podcast of all time. I was there. It was transcendent. Jokes, insight, actual world peace plans… and then? The recording failed. Gone. Lost to the void. A tragedy for humanity. So here we are, on an odd day, trying to recapture the magic. Spoiler: we didn’t....

The One With The Boy From Smallville 28.07.2025

The boys are back, nerding out harder than ever over comic book movies. Expect a deep-dive into every fight scene, plot twist, and costume choice—as if the fate of the real world depends on it. When they stick to their geeky little wheelhouse, it’s weirdly entertaining... maybe even adorable. But the second they think they can "save the world"? You’ll hear those tiny hamster wheels creak...

The One With The Towering Inferno 21.07.2025

This week, The Boys continue their questionable love affair with a “definitely-not-a-date” photo adventure through the heart of London on a suspiciously beautiful summer day. From romantic wandering to existential spirals, they reminisce far too long before plunging—somehow—into a conversation about the horrors of tower block fires. Don’t ask how the transition happened. It’s best if you don’t. Ed...

The One With The AI Director 07.07.2025

This week, the boys return to some semblance of normality—but with a chaotic twist. They saddle up a metaphorical horse (or maybe an actual stable?) and charge headfirst into the uncanny valley, railing against the rise of poor AI art and the looming nightmare of film sets run entirely by digital “actors.” Imagine movies with no humans... just algorithmic Oscar bait. Who wants that? Apparently, Da...

The One After The Night With Geoff Keighley 30.06.2025

Once a year, the holy mackerel that is gaming splashes down in the land of America, where all eyes turn to the industry in desperate hope that our poor existence might be distracted by some shiny Vidimagames. But those days? Long gone. Now we're left with a piss-poor excuse for a trade show. Today, the boys dive into this new-age not-really-E3. It's not E3 anymore—it's Summer Game Fest...

The One Where. . . and Then Geoff Keighley 23.06.2025

He pushed his way into the room—no words, but his presence said everything. His eyes locked onto mine, black and cold like the night. Without hesitation, he shoved me aside and slammed the big red button. Just like that, we were recording. I wanted to say no , to protest that we weren’t ready , but before I could even process it—he was already talking. It happened. We were in the podcast...
