BEHIND THE STUNTS

Send us Fan Mail I'm often asked to give recommendations for books about the stunt industry and as you can imagine there are many books that give you an idea about stunts. But only a few can really hold the mantle of 'great reads'. Here are my favourites - enjoy Support the show If you've enjoyed this episode then why not follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the f...

Send us Fan Mail A remarkable feat of action by the stunt team under the watchful eye of stunt coordinator MARC BOYLE, but one sadly overshadowed by the stupidity and arrogance of director Michael Winner. Don't forget to check out the YouTube episode on Friday where we'll analyse the stunts in more detail. Link is below Support the show If you've enjoyed this episode then why not fo...

Send us Fan Mail Burt Reynolds stars and directs this rollercoaster action flick and brings on some big names to look after the action for him. BOBBY BASS and DAR ROBINSON.  One of my favourites - I hope you enjoy it too https://linktr.ee/behindthestunts Support the show If you've enjoyed this episode then why not follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the following link https://l...

Send us Fan Mail "Broadsword calling Danny Boy" Growing up, the only Danny Boy I was familiar with was the song sung by the family at special occasions like funerals. Before I knew it, sure wasn't it the calling card for this Richard Burton classic. A classic on so many levels, firstly the cast. Bringing together Burton and Eastwood was a stroke of genius. Mary Ure was another excel...

Send us Fan Mail This week we take a look at the art of boxing for the big screen and use the Rocky pictures as a template. I'm joined by crime writer and boxing aficionado Rob Parker who gives us a look inside the ring as he boxes on a regular basis. What's it like to be hit in the fight, how could they create these shots for this film? These questions and more will be answered in this...

Send us Fan Mail A war epic set in a Norfolk village. A bit like an episode of the Archers if Putin popped in for a pint. Based on the Higgins novel from the previous year, Michael Caine plays a German officer....obviously, who alongside Robert Duvall and Donald Sutherland are given their orders from Hitler via Himmler....are you keeping up with this? Kill Churchill is the order - will they do it?...

Send us Fan Mail Sean Connery....whatever happened to him after Bond??? Anyway, he is the star and it involves him stealing gold bullion from a moving train without a stunt double.....what more could you want from a movie? Send us Fan Mail One of the many disaster movies that appeared in the 1970s. This one brings an additional element to the stunt team. Bees! On Friday we'll explore how some of these scenes were created for real, but here is a look at this remarkable film and some of its action. Send us Fan Mail Two of the nicest humans you could ever wish to meet. Two men who not only taught you a great deal but made you feel better. Two of the UK's top stunt performers who sadly left us way before their time. Join me for a look at them in action and a chance to hear them. For some of you this will be for the very first time. Enjoy and then explore their films and TV work Support th...

Send us Fan Mail So here we are, 100 episodes in...who'd have thought it eh? We started this whole thing about Bond so why not keep the Bond flag flying with a look at George Lazenby and his fabulous screen punch. Many have taken the role of Bond, but I don't think anyone has delivered it better.  What do you think? Support the show If you've enjoyed this episode then why not follow...

Send us Fan Mail A Michael Caine thriller involving the Secret Service, a spy network and many of the UK's top stunt performers. Didn't do very well at the box office, but you can see where director Russell Mulchay put a great deal of the $7 million budget.  Stunt Coordinator ALAN STUART and Caine is doubled by MARK 'FRANKLIN' HENSON https://linktr.ee/behindthestunts Support th...

Send us Fan Mail A look at the action on a movie that had some very serious horse falls - so serious that you can no longer perform these gags on film or television. A cast of...well, poorly cast actors in todays world anyway, but back in 1965 it was all about the box office returns. Stunt Coordinator BOB SIMMONS brought together a core team from the UK and set off for Yugoslavia where the horse b...

Send us Fan Mail Here's a look at a stuntman who many considered the best. The UK were very lucky to have so many quality performers who worked on many different projects over lengthy careers. Jack Cooper was just such a performer. Check out his IMDB and try and spot him in the many classic big and small screen adventures he worked on. https://linktr.ee/behindthestunts Support the show If you...

Send us Fan Mail Every once in a while a show comes along that captivates you. This was my show. I loved it. I loved the chemistry between the two leads and the action. At the helm was ROY ALON who worked his magic and created amazing action sequences. True to his word he'd create "Feature film stunts on a TV budget", back in the days when there was such a thing. Enjoy and don'...

Send us Fan Mail In 1982 a character arrived at the cinema that would change it forever. John Rambo's first adventure is about a small town sheriff starting his own war against this Vietnam veteran. Action is coordinated by CONRAD PALMASANO and he has a great stunt team with him to create the stunts in this show. Hear the star of the film Sylvester Stallone talk us through some of the set pie...

Send us Fan Mail Cop shows come and go, this one was one of my favourites from the 80s. HUNTER was a cool, tall cop with a huge firearm and a hatred of crime. This series was created by Stephen J Cannall who gave us The A-Team so action was top drawer. Stunt Coordinators included RUSSELL SOLBERG AND TERRY LEONARD plus a host of others as you'll find out....which "works for me" (if y...

Send us Fan Mail After the untimely passing of Robbie Coltrane recently I was very moved by the amount of tributes that were pouring in from many stunt performers/coordinators who had worked with him over the years.  I thought it would be interesting to explore doubles wearing costumes and especially those who have to wear costumes that could prevent regular movement. Robbie played Hargrid in the...

Send us Fan Mail The name Corey Eubanks will always be associated with The Dukes of Hazard, but it doesn't just stop there. He has had the most extraordinary career over the last 40+ years. Big budget movies, doubling the leads, stunt coordinating, directing and starring in hundreds of productions. His life is a remarkable tale and if they ever did get to make the movie, they could do no bett...
