City Hall reporters Suzanne Rent from The Halifax Examiner and Colin Chisholm from AllNovaScotia join me for our first HRM City Hall roundtable.  Every two weeks we will discuss happenings from the Grand Parade in Halifax.

For our first Author Series discussion at Atlantic News, Brenda Tyedmers, author of Mrs. Walford and Bretton Loney, author of Unsettling Time discuss their books set in Halifax.  The two works, set in 1749 (Unsettling Time) and 1887 (Mrs. Walford) share common themes and showcase Halifax at different points in its history.

District seven Councillor Laura White checks in to discuss the completed Halifax Regional Municipality budget- details include student bus passes, downtown parking, plans for the Halifax Forum, and the permitting process for multi unit structures on former single home lots. 

Jerry Bannister, Director of the MaEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance at Dalhousie University, discusses the institute's mission of providing a bridge between Canadian citizens and their government.  In our discussion we touch on how the ideals of Alan J. MacEachen guide the institute, Halifax in 1970 and how the current Provincial budget reflects the state of democracy.  

In this discussion Don talks about how his book acts as a field guide for individuals looking to identify the architectural history of buildings in their city. We focus on Halifax and debates over the future of the Memorial Library and  other heritage buildings. Why should we preserve heritage buildings in our city and how should we go about this?
