Even the greatest men can be brought to the end of themselves. The faithful men teach us the questions to ask in our struggles with doubt.

Jesus did not come simply to work miracles. He came to end all sorrows by defeating sin and death. In this story we catch a glimpse of what that will be like.

Two times Jesus marvels at something. Only once does He marvel at a man’s faith.

Jesus is addressing the insufficiency of judging one another. While there is a great need for right judgment there is an even greater need for forgiveness.

Jesus is teaching His disciples what it means to be more than just reciprocators. When the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus clashes with the kingdom of the world blessed are the peacemakers.

Jesus begins to disciple His disciples. He starts here by teaching them about saving faith of which He is the author and perfecter.

You can love the law of God and have no love for God or people, but you cannot love God or truly love people without loving the law.

Every encounter with Jesus will include the opportunity for the laying down of something old (according to the flesh) and a taking hold of something new (according to the Spirit).

The idea of authority is a concept that we really must be willing to wrestle with if we are going to take the Jesus of scripture seriously.

Living a Spirit-led life will result in Jesus becoming more known in our spheres of influence-where we live, work, and play. It doesn’t always mean that He will be received well though. We can trust that the Sovereign God of the universe knows what He is doing as he leads us in times of acceptance and times of rejection.

With Jesus as our conquering King, how do we live our lives as faithful sons and daughters believing God rather than the devil?

We have a hard enough time believing God in our flesh. It makes it even harder with an enemy hell bent on our destruction.

Jesus comes to be who we could never be by glorifying God like we could glorify Him. Before we try to make application of this text let us first consider the glory of what Christ has accomplished in our stead.

As the heavens are torn open at Jesus' baptism, we witness the love of the Father for the Son he sent away for us. What a picture of Jesus' humanity, which Luke highlights in his genealogy.

We finally see the core of John’s message in this text revolving around the greatness of the coming Messiah. Repentance ultimate leads to a true and right belief in who He is and what He has come to do.

Repentance will always lead to a changed life. Repentance leads us into a life of further trust and dependance upon God and not less.

Why is repentance something we struggle with so much?

The very presence of Jesus will always expose our true affections.

Intrinsic to the reality of our redemption is the desire to live a life devoted to the redeemer.

How would our lives look different if we realized that we lived in competing cities? The City of Man and the City of God are both after our hearts and demand ultimate allegiance. We must be aware of the things that grip our hearts, for better or worse, as we seek to take the Gospel wherever the Lord may lead us.

One of the ways the mission of Christ is described is as spreading the “good news”. This also becomes a great assessment for where we are in our life. Is Jesus ACTUALLY good news for us? The writer gives some reasons why this may not be the case in our lives.

We will look at two huge barriers to believing Jesus: traditions and expectations of men (and women). We will come to see that the only real solution to these barriers is, in fact, belief in Jesus. Zechariah speaks a word that we all need to hear!

Mary is called blessed from generation to generation for being the mother of Jesus, as she should. Let us not overlook what Elizabeth saw in her: that she was blessed because she believed God.

We take for granted the reality that belief is a part of our lives. Luke is going to tell two very similar stories to help us see what belief really looks like and how we can pursue it.
