We have learned about the different uses of the word Church, Church membership, discipline, and baptism. This morning we address the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper. There is only one text in all the letters to the church’s that addresses the Lord’s Supper or Communion. The fact that Lord's Supper is only addressed once in the letters to the churches is surprising, but informative.

This sermon reminds us of the power and sufficiency of the Word of God to both save and sanctify sinners.

When the church is faithful to practice Church Discipline believers will be drawn to the truth and accountability, because they want to be more like Jesus. Unbelievers will also see that Christians and the church are serious about not sinning. They will see a difference between Christians and those in the world. God uses this to save sinners.

Church Discipline is a loving doctrine, a gracious action, a kindness extended to those caught in unrepentant sin. It is the hallmark of every healthy church. In fact you can’t have a healthy church and not practice Church Discipline.

God, in saving you, purchased you with the blood of Christ, you are no longer your own. You are a slave of Jesus Christ.
