God wants older, wiser, biblically mature women, who have learned how to love their husbands, keep house, and raise children, to teach the younger women. It insures strong marriages and families. Older women, what are you to teach younger women about loving their husbands? Let me show you the kinds of things you should teach them.

This morning we consider God’s will for older women. God is concerned how we live. He wants us all to live for His glory in light of Jesus return and eternity. We are told in the text before us the character traits that should exemplify our lives.

Our text this morning is about God’s will for older men. Just as the elders are to meet certain qualifications for shepherding the church, so older men have their own set of qualifications they are to strive for in order to be a blessing to others and give glory to God.

This morning we begin to consider one of the greatest chapters in all the Bible on how God desires Christian relationships to function. From Titus 1:9 I want to show you four more qualifications of an elder so you can see what the primary responsibility of elders is in the local church, that primary responsibility being the teaching and preaching of the Word of God, to equip the saints for ministry.

Paul left Titus to finish the organizing process of the churches there. The first thing Titus is instructed to do is to go to the churches and find qualified elders, men who pass the inspection of biblical scrutiny. Keep in mind that elders are to conform to all these character qualifications and demonstrate a serious commitment to the local church so they can be an example for everyone to follow....

Meeting and maintaining elder qualifications is what I want to direct your attention to this morning before we get into the specific qualifications of an elder that are mentioned in the text. I want to point out two critical ways Jesus wants us to go about finding and keeping qualified elders for the church, so that we don’t have unqualified elders that will cause the local church to suffer.

I want to consider three categories related to appointing elders in the church: 1) Different forms of church polity, 2) The process of appointing elders, and 3) the importance of appointing qualified elders.
