In our passage, Thomas is transformed from demanding proof of Jesus' resurrection, to boldly declaring that Jesus is God. What led to Thomas' change? It was through Jesus meeting him in his doubt, and bringing him to where his faith needed to be. Just like He often does with us!

弟子たちが集まっていた、鍵のかかった部屋の真ん中に、彼らの疑いと恐怖の中、復活したイエスが現れました。それは彼らに、自分が本当に死からよみがえったことを証明するためでした。イエスが弟子たちに、彼らのこれから受ける使命を助けるために来られる聖霊について語ってくださいます。

今回の聖書個所を通して、マグダラのマリアをはじめ、復活したイエス様を目撃した人が、どのように変えられたかを見て行きます。イエスの復活は、それを目撃した人々の見方を変えただけでなく、私たちの人生の見方、そしてやがて来る人生に対する見方をも変えることができるのです。

Jesus' resurrection changed everything for those who witnessed it, including Mary Magdalene, the first to see the risen Christ. Our passage helps us to see how Jesus' resurrection transforms not only the witnesses' perspective of Jesus, but also our perspective: not only pertaining to this life, but also the life to come.

今週と来週の聖書箇所で、ヨハネは、イエスの弟子であるマグダラのマリア、ペテロ、そしてヨハネ自身の目を通して、イエスが十字架にかけられた三日後の復活を私たちに見せてくれます。そして、彼らが目撃し、体験したことから、私たちはイエスが完全に信頼できるお方であり、イエスに信仰を置けることを知ることができます。

十字架から空っぽの墓へと急ぐのは簡単ですが、その間の闇についてはどうでしょうか？ 今日は、歴史上最も絶望的な瞬間に、神様が意外なイエスの弟子を通して、贖いのミッションを果たし続けておられたことを見て行きましょう。そして、それが私たちが時々通らなければならない闇の時期にどのように当てはまるかを考えてみましょう。

Even in death, Jesus fulfilled every prophecy. His bones unbroken, His side pierced, proving He was the perfect Passover Lamb. Even in these seemingly small details, God shows His sovereign control over salvation's plan. This helps us to know that when life feels uncertain, we can trust the One who never fails to keep His promises.`

死においても、イエスはすべての預言を成就されました。 その骨は折られることなく、そのわき腹は刺し貫かれ、完全な過越の子羊であることが証明されました。 このような一見些細なことにおいても、神様は救いの計画の上に支配を示しておられます。 これによって、人生が不安定に感じられるときでも、約束を破ることのないお方に信頼することができると、私たちは知ることができます。

Jesus fulfilled every requirement to be our perfect substitute through His crucifixion. He was willing to suffer unjustly in our place, He perfectly obeyed God's law, even while dying. And He completely fulfilled every prophecy. This confirms to us that He is the only one qualified to save us from our sins.

イエスは、十字架上で私たちの完全な身代わりとなるために必要なすべての条件を満たされました。私たちの身代わりとして不当に苦しむことをいとわず、死の間際まで神の律法に完全に従われました。そして、すべての預言を完全に成就されました。これは、イエスが私たちを罪から救うのにふさわしい唯一の方であることを私たちに確信させてくれます。

イエスは十字架上で言葉に言えないほどの大きな肉体的な苦しみに耐えました。しかし、私たちの罪に対する霊的な苦しみはさらに大きなものでした。王としての苦難は闇の敗北をもたらし、イエスに信仰を置くすべての人々に贖いを与えました。

Jesus endured unspeakable physical pain on the cross, yet His spiritual suffering for our sins was even greater. His suffering as King ushered in the defeat of darkness and offered redemption to all who put their trust in Him.

ヨハネ１９章１－１４節が、イエスがピラトの前で最もへりくだった姿をさらされたまさにその時に、イエスの栄光を明らかにしていることを見て行きましょう。エルサレムで過越の祭の小羊が神殿で捧げものの準備をされている中、王の王は究極の犠牲の小羊となられるために、自ら進んでいました。

The scene in today's passage is the Garden of Gethsemane. In this garden, we can see the power and authority of Jesus even in the face of betrayal. At the same time, we can also see Jesus submitting himself to the will of the Father in order to fulfill the mission of redemption. Through this, we are reminded that we can trust God's plan even when it differs from our own.

Before we walk away from the upper room and begin to look at the cross in John 18, it would be good for us to take some time to reflect on Jesus' final teachings to His disciples. If we could take four things from all the things we've learned from Jesus in the upper room, what would they be?
