Jesus asks the apostles 'Who do you say I am?" - and the answer we give that question is central to our whole lives. Can we say that Jesus is at the very centre of my life?

On the feast of St Irenaeus we are given the chance to heed Jesus' warning to beware of those who try to ensnare us with false teachings. Christ gave us the Church to be our sure foundation with Himself as the cornerstone. Our encouragement today is to seek to understand the teachings of the Church so that we may know and love Jesus more.

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.”

On the feast of St Josemaría, Jesus preaches from the boat of St Peter. That boat was his life and living. From there Jesus can reach out further. He can preach from your life and living, from your work and daily activities. Our ordinary life, like the boat of St Peter, is the Pulpit of God.

The martyrs reflect the mystery of Jesus’ Passion and Resurrection in a very powerful and beautiful way. Let us pray for all who suffer for their faith in Jesus and ask that we also have the grace to be strong in our witness to him

"He who sows sparingly reaps sparingly, he who sows abundantly reaps abundantly." The results of our charity, our apostolate, and our prayer life depend in part on the generosity with which we practice them. Following Jesus's parable of the sower, we should sow with gusto so that as much seed as possible falls on good soil.

So often we are motivated more by the desire to prove to ourselves (and to others) our own perfection than the desire to imitate God in the perfection of his love.

St. Paul gives us a list in the Second Letter to the Corinthians of everything we will be looking forward to in Apostolate. We can each also imitate St. Paul and write out what we expect from our life as apostles and strive to embrace some of the more difficult elements Paul includes.
