10 Minutes with Jesus

We give thanks for the witness of women disciples who help the whole church to give to the Lord because of their joy and suffering

Mt 9:9–13 (Lk 5:27–32) At just two words from Jesus, Matthew—a tax collector, possibly even a fair and merciful one—left everything and followed Jesus. Then he brought his former colleagues to meet the man that changed his life forever.

Lk 7: 31-35 Jesus came to associate with sinners and this scandalized the pharisees. Let us strive to imitate Jesus' merciful heart in how we judge and associate with others.

The Account of the widow of Naim, Lk 7, 11-17. Jesus stopped the funeral procession and told the man to get up. About listening to the transformative word of God in our life. Listening and getting up in response to live charity to those in need, like that widow.

God is calling us, giving us a vocation. It's a blessing and an opportunity. Let's be grateful and correspond

The man with the withered hand had to reveal his hand, his shame, to public view for it to be healed. Sincerity in Confession, spiritual direction and other aspects of our lives is essential if we are to be healed of what is withered in our lives.

St. Paul tells us that love is the fulfillment of the entire law. St. John also emphasizes the primacy of charity for our Christian life. Both were echoing Jesus himself. How can we grow in love of others and thus in love of God?

“If you build it, they will come”. When the disciples are accused of breaking the sabbath by eating grain in the field, Jesus refers to them as new priests acting in a new temple. With Jesus’s body as the true Temple of God, each Christian participates in Jesus’ priesthood, exercising it through the offering of their work, and their very life.

Today we celebrate the Birthday of Our Mother! Birthdays are a great time to pause and be grateful for those in our life. We can honor Our Lady today through praying her Rosary well and singing in her honor

A scene we go to so often: Jesus at the lakeshore with a crowd and Peter and his tired and frustrated companions. Life is challenging, and we are in the middle of it. People sought the presence of Jesus to be healed, the lengths we go to to feel the presence of Jesus brings us great spiritual fruit.

Jesus makes the demon be silent even though the demon correctly identifies Jesus as the 'Holy One of God.' Perhaps because it might spread confusion if a habitual liar tells the truth. But also because the demon's attitude toward Jesus is toxic.

Genesis 1:26 - Labor day in the USA can be a good day to pray about work. God created us to work. And he wants us to be Christ-like in our work. For this, one of the keys is looking at WHY we work. Among the many different intentions we might have when we work (to provide for our families, to serve others, etc.) let us tell Jesus often that we do it for him and because we love him.

Matthew 16:21-27 After Jesus names Peter the Rock, he says these words to Satan who seems to have entered him to dissuade him from the Rock. He said it to satan, not to Peter. Humanly Peter was not a rock, but his divine call made him one. He was humble enough to recognise this.

The parable of the talents teaches us that we should not approach life with the fearful approach of the man who buries his talent.

“This is the will of God, your holiness…” 1Thes 4:3a St Paul gives us the key to understanding every moment of our day. To understand that the will of God is found in the present moment was an essential point that we so often forget.
