The Graveyard Shift Horror Podcast

We are joined by Alicia to ring in the Christmassacre of 2023 with a film that has some existential horror rather than a monster or slasher. but that doesn’t take away its absolute brilliance as a film. Excellent acting, wonderful premise, great scenery and top notch writing should have made this a classic film but the movie faced a release during the pandemic so it didn’t get the awareness it sho...

John is still busy moving house so we have Alisha on the show to discuss her pick. What seemed like a real stinker showed us you can’t judge a movie by its ridiculously dumb name. This was a fun one and we highly recommend it. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show going and ge...

We are joined by a friend named Alicia who helped us watch and discuss a Rankin Bass film we never knew existed. Boris Karloff and Philis Diller are the major celebrities but there's a ton of talent in this stop motion macabre tale of a scientist inviting all the famous movie monsters (but due to copyrights, not named as such for many) and one hapless nitwit who happens to be the scientists nephew...

The end of a hotly debated trilogy ends with a film that kinda becomes another film for a while before remembering what it began as. Whether that is to it’s strength or failure is subjective, but you’ll know how we feel as Phil helps us gain closure with the trilogy. What will we finish this month with? Keep subscribed and find out. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie...

What happens when a town is affected by terror and grief, and a total inability to use cell phones to coordinate a manhunt for a geriatric mental patient? You get this sloppy mess of vigilante justice and a sweet gay couple that had nothing to do with it but pays the price nonetheless. Again we are joined by Little John’s brother, Big John. aka Phil. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us...

We begin the sacred season of Halloween with the most recent trilogy named after the series. The Micheal Myers trilogy that ends Laurie Strodes journey as a survivor from the 1978 massacre, starts as this film shows no familial connection between the hunter and hunted, but no less of an impact on her life. We are joined for this trilogy with John’s brother, Phil. We are hosted at Captivate where y...

What do you get when you have a Vincent Price film that was made in Italy and has a more misleading title than the Never Ending Story? You get a really unique apocalypse film about one man enduring the end of humanity, left to linger in solitude with only his memories of how it all went wrong. We conclude the Price is Right, with a movie where Price was anything BUT. We however, are not alone! We...

John and Mike have decided its time to pay tribute to the man, the myth, the legend; Vincent Price. We start with the first of many, The Price is Right, to honour and keep alive the works, and trivia, of a phenomenal actor and a totally sweet awesome person. We begin with one that’s been talked about enough times so we had to cover it, The Tingler. The movie where fear is more than a reaction. It’...

What’s not to love about sequels? We get what we loved in the past and we know how much it’s going to be great! In that spirit, we are rejoined by comic artist and novelist Ryan Estrada to partake in Gremlins 2. This was not well received on its debut, but dammit this crazy psychotic brain child of Joe Dante shows a purity of vision and consistency of tone that really makes us respect this absolut...

As someone who cannot work the graveyard shift alone, Mike understands the need to rely on, and be valued by others. So he identifies with the most famous co-dependant in horror history, Renfield! Starring Nicolas Hoult as the bug eating sycophant, and Nic Cage as the blood drinking psycho. We are joined by John’s very own brother Phil! We all loved this film and you’ll love this episode! We are h...

This is the story of a girl. But instead of crying a river and drowning the whole world, she’s cursed a piece of outdated media that should not get so much circulation anymore. We review The Ring but John and Mike were too scared to watch it alone so we got some help with actor, producer, DJ Hale. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you...

We got Josh back for another episode but that’s not all! We have from the cartoon smash hit of the mid 2000’s Sons of Butcher, comes a great guest for our Review of Bud The C.H.U.D, Trevor Ziebarth! So enjoy Trevor’s coolness and then enjoy amazing music from his not...

Pride Moth is over. The greyscale rainbow finally shows its end. while some queer elements have been more obvious than others, there’s no denying the lesbian energy in this one. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme month...

Pride Moth continues. This theme month celebrating the greyscale rainbow is nearing its end but we have more to come. This week we share a film that has been co-opted by many queer publications though we find it lacking in coded messaging ourselves, we will stand by their assertions and give this film the Graveyard Shift treatment. This movie features a woman who fears she descends from a cat trib...

Pride Moth 2023 continues to celebrate the greyscale rainbow with more James Whale cinema. We continue the Pride Moth 2023 celebration of the Greyscale rainbow, celebrating coded classics with queer villains and themes! We are joined by Joshua Clough and Gio Petti to celebrat...

We did NOT forget Pride Month. We just don’t need one month in the year to celebrate it. We will honour the greyscale rainbow as we take on coded queer films that showed your freak flag can fly even if its monochrome! Classic black and white horrors will be on the menu as we start with a film that was lost for 85 years, James Wales “The Old Dark House” lampoons Hollywood tropes, even in the time t...

We end Video Game Horror Month on the Graveyard Shift as we have covered movies BASED on games, and involving games, so its only fair to end with a game that inspired a horror game. that was so good it inspired another game FRANCHISE. We talk about the Japanese film Sweet Home , that inspired the NES game that was SO SCARY it was kept in Japan. Seriously look at the plays on YouTube, this game pus...

Well we walked through the valley of the shadow of Boll, we haven’t left the shit woods yet. Video Game horror month proceeds as we discuss Brainscan. Eddie Furlong showed us his chops in Terminator 2 and made a name for himself as the kid dealing with fatal technology out to get him. But the real star of this show was the villain, Trickster. and for some reason we have Frank Langella. We are host...
