The Other Half

Say Anything is a classic romance movie with the famous boombox scene. But we never knew anything else about the movie. We thought it could end up being another one of those poorly aged John Hughes movies, but Cameron Crowe actually pulled off something significantly less problematic. In fact there's a massive subplot about the protagonist's dad ripping off old people? How many kisses does...

Runaway Bride is a romantic comedy that is a real trip. What if they used the same cast as Pretty Woman and made it about a bad columnist and just a small town woman who can't stop running away from this mid-as-hell men! Most importantly, the Virtual Boy makes an appearance. Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and additional podcast discussions! Check out https://shop.theot...

Four Weddings and a Funeral is like a Rom Com for the apathetic Gen X generation. It feels similar to Saint Elmo's fire, but stars a group of friends who are not so miserable. The movie follows a group of friends, with Hugh Grant in the center, and takes places around these five entirely life changing events. It's an interesting concept, but how does it work in practice? Don't forget t...

Welcome to Rom Com month! We're kicking this off with Shakespeare in Love. A movie that won Best Picture back when it was released because Harvey Weinstein poured a ton of money into promoting it. Or is it actually because it's a good movie? Ethan and Mike take a look at the period piece to see how it holds up. Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and additional podcast...

Ethan got Gran Turismo, a video game movie, into racing month?! He sure did and to his surprise, it's very very similar to F1, but with a key difference. It's actually based off a true story. Orlando Boom and David Harbour star in this epic tale of a kid who learned how to drive real race cars based on a video game. Oh excuse me it's not a video game, it's a racing simulator. Don&#...

Oh boy, a talking animal movie counts as a racing movie? Of course it does! Racing Stripes stars Frankie Muniz as a Zebra who thinks he's a race horse. He finds a found family at a ranch after he was abandoned from a Circus. These wild group of characters include Hayden Panettiere, Dustin Hoffman, Whoopi Goldberg, Mandy Moore, Steve Harvey, David Spade, Snoop Dogg, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Foxwort...

Now that we've seen (basically) all of the Oscar-nominated best picture movies and the Academy Awards for 2026 are only a few days away, it's time to talk about our predictions and rank our favorites! Lots of great movies came out and F1! Also Oscar BINGO returns this year so be sure to grab your PDF here or play online at this cool free website this one guy made that I found on Reddit . R...

Chariots of Fire marks when Oscar season bleeds into our new month all about racing movies! This movie won Best Picture in 1982, but Mike's dad said the movie was just about a bunch of guys racing. Is this movie based on a true story about how two guys brought glory to England through running in the Olympic games actually good? Or is this another Crash, Green Book, or Driving Miss Daisy. Don&#...

ZOOM ZOOM It's F1 time! Dad movies are back in the Oscars!! A script written by AI, shallow characters, mediocre cinematography, and Brad Pitt phoning it in, we're ready to unpack one of the biggest movies of the year. It's also the last movie we're watching for Oscar month. Though I know this is technically in March. This movie IMO felt like I knocked off Avatar 3 from being nomin...

The Secret Agent is a movie about the dictatorship in Brazil, similar to I'm Still Here from last year, that's often funny, irreverent, but at the same time has heart and throws pretty dark. We follow a man who is going by a secret identity and we learn more about his past as the movie continues on. This is also the most confusing second half of a movie Ethan has ever seen. So if you'r...

All about Train Dreams! A movie that starts off kind of normal, but then becomes Tree of Life? It's all about being a forrester. Wait a second. This movie is kind of like Forrest Gump if he stayed out of the spotlight and had bad things happen to him. I haven't really thought about this take until I started writing the description for this podcast. Not sure if this take holds up, but I&#39...

Continuing our 2026 Oscar run with Sentimental Value! The Norwegian movie starring Stellan Skarsgard and that lady from The Worst Person in the World . This is basically what I imagine what it's like if your dad is Werner Herzog. This podcast goes places and for some reason, we talk about Dorf from the Carol Burnett show?? I guess we were just feeling sentimental. Don't forget to join our ...

Queue the Oscar music, it's time for Hamnet! We're recording this before the Oscars are annouced so we hope it's the correct choice. Hamnet is an attempt to tell the story of how William Shakespeare's son inspired the famous play Hamlet. Mostly, though, it focuses on Will's wife, Agnes, and her story. Mike explains the story of Hamlet from the perspective of The Lion King, sinc...

Time to warm up before Oscar month with Perfect Days! A movie by Wim Wenders about a guy who cleans toilets in Tokyo. It's a meditative little piece about what it means to find peace and happiness in life. Lots and lots of good stuff to chew on for this movie, which means a real meaty podcast about a guy basically just picking up garbage in a city! Don't forget to join our  Discord  for mo...

"Extra Extra! Read all about it!" The Movie, could be the actual title of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The Transatlantic nostalgic vibes for the 30s are STRONG in this movie. Starring Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, giant robots invade the world, and it's up to Sky Captain Jude Law to stop them! Along with Gwyneth Paltrow's character, who is written like you'd expect so...

So, after dedicating almost an entire year to James Bond movies, we thought the best way to send them off was to do a final retrospective on this experience. And that includes, of course, a tier list of all the James Bond opening songs. We had so much fun recording this off-topic episode. We hope you have just as much fun listening to it! Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and...

We took a little break from Bond and Mike brought us back to watch Daniel Craig's second outing in Quantum of Solace. This is the movie Ethan hated, but maybe this movie with an absolutely forgettable villain will win him over! And most importantly, will this be the last James Bond movie we watch for the podcast?! Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and additional podcast d...

Y2K is like Stranger Things for the Millennial generation who grew up on Windows 95! Well, at least that's how it's pitched. Directed by Kyle Mooney, the movie follows a loser from high school who suddenly finds himself in the apocalypse caused by the Y2K bug! But it's crazy. The computers are walking around and trying to take over the world. Only Rachel Zigler can hack into the comput...

Single All the Way is an odd Christmas movie. It feels like it wants to be a Hallmark movie with a gay dude in the center of it all, but it just has such an odd atmosphere to it. Peter is desperate not to go home from LA without a boyfriend, so he enlists his best friend to pose for him as his boyfriend. Then shenanigans ensue? Except not really, because his best friend already knows everyone and...

I feel like Santa has brought us a varied list of movies this year, including a musical called The Mistle-Tones. Starring Tia Mowry from Sister Sister, The Mistle-Tones follows a lady who really wants to join a musical group of mean girls because, at some point, her dead mom was in that musical group. She recruits colleagues from her office group! Even her stuck-up boss, and that's where roman...

It's not Christmas time unless we're watching a Hallmark movie, and this year we have Window Wonderland. But is it a good one of those? Or is it a huge flop? I gotta say, there's quite a lot of twists in this plot and clever reveals, but let's see if the chemistry between the two leads burns like the yule log on your TV. Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and a...

Ho-ho-ho we've gotten ourselves into a little predicament! Ethan and Mike have to save Santa by watching a bunch of Christmas movies! Luckily, they were planning on doing this anyway, so Santa should be good. We start with 8-bit Christmas. A movie about a boy in Chicago who wants nothing more than a Nintendo for Christmas. It's basically A Christmas Story mixed with The Goonies or Sandlot....

Happy Hanksgiving, everyone! Tomas from Almost Plausible once again joins us for another Tom Hanks movie. This time, one of the lowest-grossing movies of his career: A Hologram for the King. Tomas went the extra mile and read the book to give us insights into how exactly this movie was adapted to the screen. Which you know we love (see our Pinocchio series). Tom Hanks stars as a salesman who trave...

Okay, now that the joke is over, we finally watch Casino Royale, where Daniel Craig takes the reins of the James Bond role and tries to put a new spin on it. Does he live up to the hype? Is this a movie that may actually be genuinely good and not just a great James Bond film? You'll have to listen and find out! Don't forget to join our  Discord  for movie nights and additional podcast disc...

Finally, the boys get to a whole new James Bond, but this one is grittier and in black and white. In fact, there's something weird about this one. Something doesn't sound quite right.
