Whether it's exotic destinations and the wacky misadventures that happen there, or maybe just the pleasure of staying home with nothing to do, as long as it's getting out of the daily routine, it's enou...

Despite it having been made pretty clear in the dialogue of the first three movies in the Purge franchise, we finally to get to see what happened during The First Purge . It's the only excuse we need to look back at our own favorite prequels, that most wonderful narrative form that combines the pandering of a forced sequel with the thrill of knowing exactly how the plot is going to end even before...

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is here, the fourth follow-up to a movie uniquely near and dear to the heart of every '90s kid. We happen to have three such individuals ready to talk about the whole series, from 1993's iconic Jurassic Park  all the way up to the massive 2015 blockbuster Jurassic World , and its shiny new sequel. In Worth Mentioning, the AE crew discusses Hereditary , Tag  and A Kid...

Remake mania claimed its latest victim with Superfly , a new version of the beloved 1972 blaxplotation classic Super Fly that, in keeping with the faster pace of modern life, does away with the space in the title. Over the years, dating all the way back to the silent era, in fact, there have been so many remakes that some of them must have been worth it, and the team is going to bring new meaning...

The Incredibles 2 is coming this weekend, at which point the one Pixar film that people actually want a sequel to will finally have one. This leaves a void: what are the other films in this ridiculous, sequel-mad era of ours that somehow haven't gotten a follow-up, but nonetheless deserve one? In Worth Mentioning, the crew discusses Ocean's 8 and Rob talks about the sci-fi indie flick Upgrade .

Our next episode comes courtesy of Patreon  donor Andrew Milne, who wanted to know our thoughts on the Indonesian action movies The Raid: Redemption  and  The Raid 2 . No fair guessing Tim's opinions if you follow those links, but what will Rob and Carrie have to say about two of the very best action movies of the 21st Century, given their ridiculous hesitation to embrace subtitled movies? In Wort...

Word out of Cannes is that Alden Ehrenreich makes for a pretty good Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story , but let's just say that we'll believe it when we see it. But if Ehrenreich does singlehandedly destroy the movie, it wouldn't be the first time. Carrie, Rob, and Tim share their picks for the most damaging performances ever: the times when a movie was actually ruined by bad acting. In Worth Me...

You're only as old as you feel, but if you're pairing Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda in the movie Book Club , you're sure to be a contender for our Top 5 Geriatric movies.  This week we explore the films that best highlight those fine golden years, the highs and lows of aging and everything in between. Mother's Day is just around the corner, and it brings with it Life of the Party , a film about a mom humiliating her daughter by going back to college (it's also just shown up as one of Carrie's most-anticipated films of the summer !). To celebrate both of these things, we're celebrating our favorite films about mothers and daughters. Whether it's a loving relationship, a fraught relationship, or...

The team also shares reviews of Tim and Rob's highly anticipated film  Annihilation, Game Night  and t...

Here's a nice high concept one for you. Annihilation will be just the second film ever directed by screenwriter-novelist Alex Garland, after 2015's Ex Machina . Which is almost enough to get us excited, but second features tend to be difficult: for every one that lives up to the promise of the maker's debut, there are a dozen sodden misfires. Hear us discuss our picks for the best directorial soph...

The dregs of January are behind us, and ahead lie three months (or anyway, two and a half) of the year's cinematic misfits: too odd, or too strange, or too under-budgeted to thrive in the cutthroat summer and holiday frames. Plus a couple of gigantic Disney tentpoles. At any rate, we're choosing to call this transitional period "spring" for the sake of sharing our picks for our most-anticipated fi...

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi less than a fortnight away, the Alternate Ending crew makes a terrible discovery: Carrie has never seen any other Star Wars film than Rogue One . Clearly, this cannot stand, and so we invite you to join us as three people with very different tastes and very different relationships to this franchise try to tackle the most iconic film series in history. First up: the 19...

Depending on where you live, this past weekend you might have been able to see The Disaster Artist , director-star James Franco's take on the making of the infamous The Room , the movie that taught us all that no matter how upset you are, you can always cheer right up by saying hai to your friend Mark, and that nothing helps a cancer diagnosis like promptly forgetting it. With an excuse like that,...
