The Projectors

Every Friday for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 is devoted to the freaks with a franchise. Yes, we’re going over a whole series of movies and boy golly talk about peaks and valleys in this year’s franchise choice. You might get whiplash but at least we start off killer. THE EXORCIST is every Friday and today breaks it in with the original EXORCIST film from 1973. One of the most talked about movies of all t...

YEAR FOUR OF HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST BEGINS! We’re kicking this monthlong cavalcade of daily themed horror just right with a guy we’ve taken too long to get to. The horror queen…er, King himself…VINCENT PRICE. In our youth, Vincent Price was a narrative voice more than anything but now we finally sit down with five of his films, each Thursday this month, and what a good time at the movies that turned o...

Finally, we wrap up New Jersey for our AINT THAT AMERICA series and things got shuffled around a little bit before we decided last minute to switch to this oddball ass movie. We scrapped “Jersey Girl” and then “Paterson” for a little less North Jersey representation but truth be told the geography is haywire in the 1991 Dan Aykroyd film ‘NOTHING BUT TROUBLE” starring him, Chevy Chase, Demi Moore a...

We’re at our penultimate New Jersey selection for our AINT THAT AMERICA series and surely we can get sadder, right? We’re heading to Asbury Park and all over Jersey from Rahway down to Wilmington, Delaware. The best city to die in bar none. As far as we can tell the 2008 film “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke is Darren Aronofsky’s best movie but we’re far from experts. But pro-wrestling? That’...

We’re in our last batch of New Jersey flicks for our AIN’T THAT AMERICA series and it might seem like a given that we would discuss this notorious Zach Braff debut film from 2004. It is named for the state’s nickname after all. Yeah, dude. GARDEN STATE. A movie often cited as a prime example of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl movie trope. We revisit the sneakily humorous if not overwritten hit movie th...

OUR FIRST ROAD MOVIE for our AIN’T THAT AMERICA SERIES and it takes place entirely in New Jersey. We’re finally getting to a stoner comedy with this comedy classic from 2004, “HAROLD & KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE” the breakout roles fro John Cho & Cal Penn. A wilder odyssey than Christopher Nolan could execute as we cut diagonally through the state from Hoboken to Cherry Hill. We actually map...

FINALLY! We’re back to the 3rd state in our union for our state series “Ain’t That America”. Our first half of New Jersey at the Movies was months ago but now obligations are fulfilled and we’re finally here again for movies about the Garden State. For this discussion we’re going to the west end of the George Washington Bridge where a sad bag NYPD wannabe Sheriff gets to kid glove a town whose res...

This is the last selection for “YOU’RE NEVER OUT”, our heist block for our LIVES OF CRIME series. Want a heist movie? Well, how about the movie called “HEIST” from 2001 starring Mean Gene Hackman. It’s our second David Mamet involved selection for “YOU’RE NEVER OUT” and this one he directed and wrote and boy did he wrote this thing. He dripped all over it. He fucked this thing into a cocked hat. M...

This block of heist films we’re doing for our LIVES OF CRIME series is called “YOU’RE NEVER OUT” and no flick in this block encapsulates that title more than this debut from Jonathan Glazer. Of course we’re talking about “SEXY BEAST” which came out 26 years ago. Hard to say why we never watched it until now, perhaps then it looked a little like too much of the Tarantino/Guy Ritchie inspired stuff...

“YOU’RE NEVER OUT” is the heist series of our rotating theme LIVES OF CRIME and today we’re hitting up our first John Frankenheimer flick for the show. So let’s go to France and meet “Sam” (Robert De Niro) a former CIA agent that is in on a plan to steal a case of great value but  can people be trusted with this job? Of course not. A stellar cast which includes an actor we’ve discussed more than a...

Our next LIVES OF CRIME block is all about heists and the big personalities behind them. We’re calling it “YOU’RE NEVER OUT” and we’re long overdue to get to this seminal hit film from the 1970s that won Best Picture and more at the Academy Awards. We’re talkin’ THE STING from 1973. It’s hijinks and capers and rag time as Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford, RIP) and Henry Gondorf (Paul Newman, RIP) tea...

We may have bitten off more than we can chew for what we hoped to complete by the end of the year but we’re finally back to a rotating theme that will likely encompass 2027 as well. Once again it’s time for our “LIVES OF CRIME” series and we’ve been hankerin’ since we did the James Cagney block and are finally able to get back into it. For this chunk’s crime theme we’re gonna need a few decent hea...

We wrap up our NEW STUFF SHOWCASE with the only movie in the bunch that didn’t hit that box office mark. We don’t mean to rub it in but maybe 80’s nostalgia has its ceiling. We caught MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE on a freshly dropped stream just six weeks after its theatrical release. Mattel cashed in huge with Barbie so now Prince Adam gets the treatment. In fact, they stick him in a soul sucking HR j...

We continue NEW STUFF SHOWCASE with yet another breakout horror that made box office bank and it’s directed by a surprisingly young breakout director, Kane Parsons. We’re talking BACKROOMS which we saw in the theater but, admittedly, we knew nothing about the YouTube series that it came out of or the creepypasta lore that inspired that. How do you even find anything good with Creepypasta? There’s...

We’re going through a NEW STUFF SHOWCASE and finally hitting up some fairly recent releases and this hit charmed the britches off of audiences when it released in theaters a few months ago. America’s Official Quirky Hunk and Modern Nice Guy Everyman, Ryan Gosling, stars in one of this year’s biggest hits, “PROJECT HAIL MARY”. Ryan plays Dr. Grace a middle school science teacher  who has to go ligh...
