The Other Half

Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz go cruising around a rich guy's life and memories in Vanilla Sky. This was meant to be a massively trippy movie back in 2001 when it first came out. Directed by the same guy who wrote Jerry Maguire , Cameron Crowe, Vanilla Sky focuses on a rich guy named David who becomes infatuated with his best friend's lady friend, Sophia. Oh, this is while he's sorta se...

will send shivers down anyone's spine. Sure not everyone has a cybernetic implant, but there's definitely a pandemic going on. Keanu Reeves stars as a courier who delivers data from his 300 or so gigabyte skull. His final job though tests his limits, even though it's the last one before his retirement. Cyberpunk 2077 fans, this is no Johnny Silverhand, this Keanu is kind of only a douc...

Finally, we come to the last Pinocchio movie in the Pinocchio trio. This is the most recent movie starring Roberto Benigni this time as Gepetto instead of Pinocchio like in the previous movie. Critics call Pinocchio 2019 the definitive Pinocchio story. This time Mike has finally read the original Pinocchio story originally published in 1883 so comes in with the knowledge to know what's faithfu...

We continue on our seemingly ill-fated quest to watch the Pinocchio trio. This time we head over to watch Roberto Benigni pretend to be a child and made of wood while doing nothing of the sort to convince us it's real. There are so many different kinds of Pinocchio stories, but this one is maybe the weirdest adaptation. Roberto Benigni wrote, directed, and starred in this film. He also made so...

The Adventures of Pinocchio is one of the many adaptations of the story of Pinocchio, which is also called The Adventures of Pinocchio. This adaptation though has the power of Jim Henson's creature shop to bring our favorite little boy to life. They never asked if they should have a complicated animatronic puppet as it's perhaps one of the most nightmare-inducing parts of the movie. That b...

What better way to ring in the new year than watching Soylent Green, a movie that takes in 2022. This movie hits a little too close to home for a movie made 40 years in the past. You'd expect some changes to happen since then to avoid the awful future depicted in the film. Luckily we don't have pay phones anymore! One dystopian future narrowly avoided! The Poseidon Adventure is about a cruise ship disaster that happens to take place on New Year's Eve. Imagine the Titanic, but more cynical and with a stacked cast. Also with wild sets where absolutely everything is upside down. What it lacks in plot, it makes up for in characters and amazing set pieces. Hopefully, our New Year will be better than these unfortunate souls. Check out https://shop...

The Holiday features a pretty stacked cast that'd you'd expect to see in a romantic comedy in 2006, but then there's also Jack Black? It's curious casting for such a long movie. Does Jack Black fit into this movie about a dumped Cameron Diaz who decides it's a good idea to swap houses with Kate Winslet in the UK? He does his best that's for sure. This is also the first movi...

What's Christmas without a romantic comedy? Well, how about one with a premise so stupid I guarantee you won't be able to figure it out until you listen to our podcast. Enter No Sleep 'Till Christmas. The surest sign that Christmas movies are absolutely running out of ideas. At least the two leads have some chemistry. Perhaps it's because they're married? Now if only they could...

A Christmas Horror Story tells the tale of four different stories all set around Christmas Eve in the same town. William Shatner is here for some reason and ties all the movies together one way or another. Some are decent, some are bad, but overall this movie has a lot of heart. Mostly because it's Canadian. Gather around a severed elf zombie head on fire and have a listen to this horrifically...

Merry Friggin Christmas because it's the holiday season! In fact, we're feeling a lot like grinches because of this movie that exists. Merry Friggin Christmas is one of Robin William's last movies. Joel Mchale stars as a fancy business guy who wants his son to experience the magic of Christmas forever. All because Robin Willians, his dad ruined Christmas for him! Absolutely no one in t...

Turn off that Ted Lasso, because Finch is now on hit streaming service Apple+! The story is about a man in the post-apocalypse who built a robot for the only purpose of taking care of his dog when he dies. He then has to teach the robot what it's like to be human. Basically, Tom Hanks creates life. Happy Hanksgiving! Also this poster doesn't make sense. How is the dog that tall? Maybe Tom...

Could Always be Steven Spielberg's hidden gem? I don't think anyone I know has seen this movie. Richard Dreyfuss stars as Pete, a hotshot pilot who fights fires by dropping fire retardent from his tanker plane. Holly Hunter loves him, but he's just too much of a hotshot for his own good. Hope he doesn't die. Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman do their absolute best at...

The best part of the movie was Cuba Gooding Jr. and Regina King's performances, while Tom Cruise and Renee Zellwegger try desperately to hold their own. Of course, all of Tom Cruise's lines are quoted for all eternity. Looks like it's about baseball and being an asshole. Maybe someday if you're an asshole you'll learn you're an asshole and maybe you'll stop being an ass...

Tommy is THE pinball wizard, that people somehow devote their lives to worshiping. This is probably the first musical we watched based on a band and what better choice than The Who. Like most things from the 1970s, certain aspects of this movie don't age well. But holy cow is it a sight to behold. We're going to be explaining some things in this episode that honestly don't make much se...

Pulse is a Japanese horror film that came out in 2001 and of course, had an American remake in 2006. Maybe it was a good idea to remake this movie because it absolutely does not hold your hand. In fact, we're not sure we put together the complete story on this one. It's so vague, so bleak, so damn unsettling. Just listen to the episode. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to he...

Child's Play is a classic horror movie franchise that somehow bypassed both of us. Well, I guess the reason was is we were afraid of our toys coming to life and killing us. What can we say, we have trust issues. Now this movie turns out to be a lot like Toy Story in a lot more ways than we expected. First off, the kid's name is Andy! Who knows how old Andy is, but I like to think that the...

Housebound doesn't have anything to do with Southbound. No this is a horror movie about a lady who is confined to her house for being a criminal and there's a ghost in it! It's also a horror-comedy from New Zealand not created by Taika Waititi. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Logan's Run is a classic sci-fi movie where you live in a utopia, but you'd had to die at 30. Is it worth it? Maybe it's better to live outside where people have great taste in musicals. This is definitely one of the better older sci-fi movies out there. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Waiting to Exhale was pitched to us as a good/bad movie that every mom and auntie saw in the '90s. I'm going to say that's extremely accurate. It's not a well-made movie, but it has a lot of heart and features some fantastic acting from Angela Bassett. Can anyone give these poor women a break? Men are trash. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show a...

Blank Check has been on our list since the day this podcast started. There's a reason people kept suggesting it. Miss March is The Whitest Kids You Know's first movie. It was also their last. We take a look at the late Trevor Moore's movie and see if it's worth remembering with the rest of his comedic works. Or should it be left back in 2009. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/th...
