I don't suffer from claustrophobia - but I know those who do -and that supposedly irrational fear can seem very real when it is happening. Support the show

I realise that I now am starting to sound like my father - there is real merit in following something through to the bitter end - even if you think its completely wrong.  Just the experience of doing something you really dislike reminds you never to go there again.. Support the show

This is the one that didn't get on to the latest release from Guitar Emporium "Mr Jobsworth" - I like it - but it got the chop. Not sure why - although I realised that I get a little carries away with "handclaps" in tunes - I think that must be from listening to so much of Stealers Wheel a long long time ago. This is the Co-pilot results for a Shifting Sands Search: "Shifting sands" refers to both literally moving sand and metaphorically to situations that are constantly changing or unstable. Oh wow! Thats just for starters - here we go ...... Literal Meaning In a literal sense, shifting sands describe sand that moves due to wind, water, or other natural forces, commonly found in deserts, bea...

This is a tune for those days when you want things to be better than they are. Think of one thing that you love doing and imagine "its coming back". Ridiculous - I know - but it sometimes ( not always ..) it helps Support the show

I was having a discussion about this today - the difference between smouldering and fire. Smouldering ( British English ) or smoldering ( American English ; is the slow, flameless form of combustion , sustained by the heat evolved when oxygen directly attacks the surface of a condensed-phase fuel. [1] Many solid materials can sustain a smouldering reaction, including coal , cellulose , wood , cott...

I think - but feel free to correct me - this is much more prevalent in the US than here.  Time and a half is a pay rate of 1.5 times an employee’s regular hourly wage, typically applied to overtime hours worked beyond the standard 40-hour workweek. What Time and a Half Means Time and a half refers to earning 50% more than your regular hourly rate for overtime work. For example, if your normal rate...

Not a place I often go - although I think I am as sentimental and enjoy reminiscing as much as the next person. Its definitely a nice place to go occasionally - its uncanny how you seem to erase the dodgy bits and retain the good memories - self preservation I suppose. Support the show

This piece is written as if at cross purposes - that is If two or more people are at cross purposes, they do not understand each other because they are talking about different subjects without realising it.. There's an awful lot of it going on. Support the show

In the week I wrote this tune Trump promised $5,000 to every US adult if the Republicans won the mid-terms. It was also predicted elswhere that there was a greater than 10% chance that AI could be wipe out the human race in 10 years. Cheerful stuff. This tune was written about those moments between a dream and waking up that  sometimes occur - when you realise the contents of the dream just don&ap...

From September 2023 - a re-mix of a tune written about " Conspiracy " theories. They really are interesting and ( the best ones) appeal to everyones slightly personalised view of the world. I think the difficulty arises when you stop checking them out and start believing .. Support the show

This was first written in response to the attacks on Gaza.  I make no pretence to understand the complexities of the Middle East chaos, but the primarily young settlers who are attacking Palestinian families in their homes on the West Bank seems hard to comprehend. Support the show

Like lots of school age bands we used others songs to start our own attempts. I've re-recorded this version as I remember it - sitting on the piano in the drama room . The lyrics are taken from “Single Girl, Married Girl” - a 1928 folk song by the Carter Family highlighting the contrasting lives of single and married women in early 20th-century Appalachia. The song was recorded by the Carter...

The lead bird rotates periodically, sharing the burden of fighting against the wind.  What time of year do geese typically migrate from the UK?  The timing of migration varies depending on the species, but generally, geese begin to leave the UK in the autumn (September-November) and return in the spring (March-April)/ September 7- about 7am I saw the first V- shape squadron on their way east acros...

The incredible bravery of the tunnel rescuers in the Nepal flooding is impossible not to admire. Back they go - again and again in the hope that someone can be recovered alive amongst all the despair. And amazingly they were still pulling people out alive 10 days after the flood. Support the show
