The Frankencast

This week, Tim Kirk returns, this time as a guest host. And we're going all the way back to the OG grave robbers, William Burke and William Hare, two guys who really existed and really killed for fun and profit. But what happens when a semi-disgraced American film director gets access to an impressive cast of great British actors, both iconic and up-and-coming? You get a true story of murder a...

Maybe it's NOT exactly what you think it is? Once again, guest host extraordinaire Hayden Orr is back, and this time we're discussing a lesser-known slasher flick that is really more of a giallo sun/slasher rising. Join us as we discuss the wildest jigsaw puzzle techniques you will ever see, a surprise kung fu professor, and Chekhov's Waterbed! Find more from Hayden and Last Book on th...

Hello fiends! Hayden Orr is back again, and this time we're talking about a bizarro sexploitation mashup with a checkered past. It's not exactly sexy, but it's definitely fun. Join us as we talk about monster faces that are totally not masks, monster guitarists, and a mad scientist who simply cannot be sneaky. Find more from Hayden and Last Book on the Shelf at https://podcasts.appl...

Well fiends, we are once again headed to the land of Japan, so we are once again joined by our ringer for all things Japanese, Alex Heichelbech. This time we're watching a campy high school comedy with so many controversial things to discuss. Plus a Kabuki Mad Scientist Vice Principal, a magic cape, and living screws? Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you d...

Fiends, once again Hayden Orr has joined the gang as we ride around a small Georgia town, blowing up cop cars, angering local Sasquatches, and engaging in so many questionable practices that we can't even begin to get into it. We're talking about a Frankenstein biker movie that is the sequel to a non-Frankenstein biker movie that we did not watch. Things are going great, team. Find more fr...

This week, your resident Mad Scientist is once again joined by friend of the pod and guest host extraordinaire, Hayden Orr to talk about the very first Italian horror film shot in color! Join us as we talk about an old school Scary German Guy, what the world "carousel" means, the classic break-down of a no-strings-attached hook-up with a mentally ill villain. Find more from Hayden and La...

It's a weird week, fiends. Your friendly neighborhood Mad Scientist is flying solo this week to tell you all about this slight, low budget movie that succeeds in some ways and fails in others. Join me as I talk to myself for an hour. And don't worry, Eric will be back. And in the meantime, I'm bringing in a few ringer guest hosts to help out. But this is a lonely movie set in the isola...

This week, we're revisiting our old friend M3GAN to discuss the killer robot's less-popular sequel. Join us as we discuss EMPs, the movie's real-world analogs, and the killer murphy bed we didn't know we needed. Listen along to find out what we thought. Is this film unfairly maligned? Or just another cynical cash-grab sequel with no heart? Please rate, review, and tell your fiends....

Continuing our Elvis coverage(?), this week we're talking about this incredibly late-90s horror comedy. It's an incredibly frustrating film in that it has some really interesting ideas that are executed so poorly that it's almost indefensible. But join us as we discuss internalized homophobia, some of the worst gay stereotypes of the 90s, obscure rock 'n' roll trivia, and more!...

When Tim Kirk suggests an Elvis movie might also be a Frankenstein movie, you listen. And so we were delighted to get to talk to Tim again about our first times watching an Elvis movie, his brand new book All His Damned Mother's Sons, surprise cameos and much more! All His Damned Mother's Sons is out now! You can purchase it at https://pelekinesis.square.site?cc=FRANKENCAST or just go to p...

This episode comes in a little glass vial! (A little glass vial?) Wanna get in on this modern cult film before it fully cements its cult classic status? Now's your chance! Join us as Pauly from Goodfellas faces off against Giles from Buffy in a battle to the death over a (maybe?) terminally ill teen girl. There's gross face masks, there's Paris Hilton/Bill Moseley sibling rivalry (and...

We're going back to college with a surprisingly progressive college comedy? Join us for the Weekend at Bernies/Air Bud/Frankenstein mashup you didn't know you needed, one with some of the best "Frank N. Stein" gags we've ever seen. Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you don't miss future installments. Join us on Patreon at  ...

We did it, fiends! 200 episodes! They said it couldn't be done, and here we are. This week, to celebrate the special occasion, we're finally watching two movies we've been wanting to get to since day one. We're discussing the alternating dual-role performances by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in the British National Theatre's production of Frankenstein. So join us a...

Okay, so we weren't quite done with Dr. Moreau. This week we're joined by Very Special Guest Rodney Ascher, director of Room 237, The Nightmare, A Glitch in the Matrix, and Ghost Boy (which is currently doing the festival circuit). Rodney has been really digging into the Moreau films lately, so our mutual friend Tim Kirk linked us up. This conversation was an absolute blast, so we're r...

We've reached the final Moreau film (for now, but just wait for our brilliant sequel PLANET OF DR. MOREAU), and we gotta say that this much maligned 1996 film with the extremely well-documented disastrous production actually kind of rules? So, like, see it if you haven't. It's absolutely bonkers, but in the best kind of way. Join us as we discuss the Brando vs. Kilmer war of craziness,...

We've got to go back to the island, fiends! We had so much fun at the Blood Island (of Dr. Moreau) that we're returning for another visit. This week, it's the Island of Lost Souls. And even though it doesn't mention Moreau in the title, this one is much more explicit in its adaptation than Terror is a man. Join us as Charles Laughton chews the scenery as Moreau, and we meet an exce...

This week, we're getting TOTALLY 90s , as we watch this MTV freak-out from so many of the people behind the Bill and Ted films. It's a weird, wild film that at first poses as an equal-opportunity offender, but is actually kind of stealthy in it's progressiveness? Join us as we meet a sophisticated worm-guy with some hygiene problems, a living sock puppet, and trans-rights Mr. T, among...

Um, we're sorry? This week we're talking about what we can only describe as an anti-comedy/anti-porn surrealist attack on the senses. Join us as we discuss the fantastic Frankenstein makeup, the ridiculous guys in the horse costume, some of the most unpleasant sex scenes we've come across, and Karlstadt: a village full of Karls. Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to...

This week's film is a surprise release from Full Moon Features that we could not resist talking about. It's a "lost" film starring Tony Todd that Charles Band has "graciously" dug up and finished in the wake of the actor's recent passing. Join us as we meet Jack and Jill, who metaphorically fetch (perform horrific surgery on) a pail of water (two cats). We'll al...

In honor of Disney's recent live action reimagining of Lilo & Stitch, we've decided to take a look back at the original, which is TOTALLY a Frankenstein story. Join us as we talk about mosquito preserves, mutated koalas, and alien record players. Oh, and Eric reveals that is a first time watch for him! Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you don't...

This week, Eric takes a break, as we're joined by guest host Hayden Orr (from Last Book on the Shelf) for a tour of Frankenstein General Hospital. Join us as we talk excessive running gags, TV movie vibes, and SO MUCH BDSM. Find more from Hayden and Last Book on the Shelf at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/last-book-on-the-shelf/id1604416407 Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And...

This week, we're going to the movies! And wait, that movie looks awfully familiar... Didn't we just watch that last week? Join us as we discuss awkward first dates, hiding behind the seats to watch scary movies, and selective subtitling. Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you don't miss future installments. Join us on Patreon at  ...

The Frankencast is getting back to its roots, baby! We got a movie with Frankenstein in the title, we got the Delacey family, we got Victor and Elizabeth Frankenstein on their wedding night. We got it all. Oh, but we also have a wildly animalistic and totally MONSTROUS monster. That's kinda new. Join us as the Monster kills basically everybody in increasingly brutal ways. Please rate, review,...

This week we're Blood Island dreaming, but technically back in the US. Join us for Al Adamson's bizarre banana republic Frankenstein brain swap freak-out, featuring many of our friends from Dracula vs. Frankenstein. We're discussing cars full of explodium, confusing cultural appropriation, and the world's most naive doctor. Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to...
