In this episode, we explore Señora Santana, a song that was sung by the children of Cuban immigrants who had come to work in the cigar factories of Ybor City, Florida in the early 20th century. Our guests are Dr. Benjamin Lapidus, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, and Cuban musical powerhouse Daymé Arocena.

Today, we're listening to the incredible voice of Mary Lane, whose performance of "You Hurt My Feelings" was recorded as part of the Chicago Ethnic Arts project in 1977. Our guests are Michelle Stefano from the American Folklife Center, Dr. Allie Martin, Assistant Professor at Dartmouth College, and Chicago-based musical artist Bethany Thomas.

We're remixing "Sweet Babe of Mine," a beautiful lullaby sung by sixteen-year-old Margie Maddox in her Texas high school's coat closet in 1939. Our guests are Jesse Hocking from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and musical duo Elizabeth Mitchell and Daniel Littleton of the band Ida.

We dig into the "Dead Horse Shanty," a truly weird sea shanty that was at the center of an old-school sailor party. Our guests are Stephen Winick from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and musical artist Dr. Julian Saporiti, who's also known for his No No Boy project.
