Ryan Coogler's X-Files is going to series at Hulu, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel leading as two brand new FBI agents. Frank runs through the logline, clears up the Mulder and Scully question, and tells the story of the kid who changed the channel every time that theme song started. Episode Summary Coogler, the director behind Black Panther and Sinners, wrote and directed the pilot,...

Constantine 2 is still in development, with Keanu Reeves, Francis Lawrence and Akiva Goldsman attached since 2022 and no release date in sight. I make the case for DC moving on from Keanu and handing John Constantine to the team behind The Sandman. The update out of New York Comic Con keeps Constantine 2 alive, but four years without a date has me calling it DC's version of Marvel's Blade....

Craig Zobel, who directed the first three episodes of The Penguin, is making Something Is Killing the Children for Blumhouse. Erica Slaughter is headed to live action, and the script is being described as a "firehose of blood." Blumhouse named Zobel as director of its Something Is Killing the Children film at its Blumfest panel during New York Comic Con. He already made The Hunt with the...

VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ October 14 with two episodes, and I'm catching you up before it drops. I walk Vision from Ultron's lab in Age of Ultron through WandaVision and Agatha All Along, then lay out my theory for how White Vision gets his emotions back. Ultron built the body, Jarvis and the Mind Stone made Vision, and Infinity War took him out for that stone. S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt hi...

HBO Max and Paramount+ are staying separate apps when Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merge under the Skydance name on October 6. James Gunn and Peter Safran are staying in charge of DC Studios. Frank runs through what changes when the Skydance merger closes on Tuesday. The streaming apps stay apart for now, with a bundle expected before any combined service and no word on the Disney+, Hulu a...

Episode Summary Futurama is canceled again, with the season 14 finale now streaming on Hulu and no season 15 ordered. Three specials are still on the way, starting with a Robot Santa Christmas special in 2027, and Matt Groening says the show will rise again. I run through where Futurama stands after the Hulu finale, including the three specials still in production and why I take Groening's pro...

Simon Kinberg is writing a new Star Wars trilogy, and Jon Watts is attached to direct the first film. It picks the Skywalker saga back up after The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley's Rey expected back in a smaller role. Lucasfilm is reopening the Skywalker saga for what would be Episode X, and I walk through the reporting from The Hollywood Reporter and Knight Edge Media. Rey is reportedly...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading back to theaters with an extended cut. The new footage restores Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, the nurse from Daredevil and Luke Cage who was cut from the original release. Brand New Day is now the highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office, and Sony is following Avengers: Endgame Encore with a re-release of its own. Claire Temple's scene is t...

Mark Hamill is the new voice of Darkwing Duck, with Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack and Lizzy Caplan as a grown-up Gosalyn Mallard. The Disney+ revival hands the title role to Luke Skywalker, and Jim Cummings, the original Darkwing, isn't thrilled about it. Disney+ ordered a new Darkwing Duck series from Seth Rogen's Point Grey Pictures, and the voice cast is out. This episode walks throug...

Daredevil: Born Again ends with season 3 on Disney+ in 2027, and the cast got the call two months after cameras stopped rolling. Showrunner Dario Scardapane is also off the show in the middle of post-production, with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Kingpin all set for the final run. Season 3 wrapped filming before anyone knew it was the last one, so the finale was likely written with a se...

The 12 states suing to block Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery have settled, which leaves the Writers Guild of America lawsuit set for March 2, 2027 as the last challenge standing. Frank runs through the terms, including a 30-film theatrical minimum, a $1.5 billion California production commitment, and a third-party editorial adviser for CNN and CBS News. Paramount has to release...

Batman Day lands on September 19, and Warner Bros. is putting three Batman movies back on big screens for the weekend. Tim Burton's Batman, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and The LEGO Batman Movie are all screening at Regal, AMC, and Cinemark. I go through all three and make the case for each one. Michael Keaton's 1989 Batman is the live action version everything after it got measured again...

Paramount is developing a Hawaii Five-O movie with Destin Daniel Cretton attached to direct and Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner on the script. Cretton grew up on Maui and is coming off Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which means he can pick almost any job he wants right now. The project is in the packaging phase, so nothing is closed and no cast or date exists yet. Paramount gets the first swing...

Gen V's Asa Germann is joining Marvel's X-Men as Angel after screen testing for Cyclops. The new mutants probably sit out Avengers: Doomsday, but Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, and Inde Navarrette are strong bets for Secret Wars. Asa Germann tested for Cyclops before Kit Connor landed the part, and Marvel offered him Warren Worthington III instead. His run as Sam Riordan on Gen V showed he can pl...

South Park won Outstanding Animated Program at the Creative Arts Emmys for "Sermon on the 'Mount," its first win in that category since 2013. Two days later, Trey Parker and Matt Stone renamed the show South America. The Emmy went to the season 27 premiere, the episode that put a cartoon Trump in bed with Satan and took shots at Paramount along the way. The show's accounts follow...

Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons and Dragons series called Ravenloft, built as an origin story for Strahd von Zarovich. Alfonso Cuarón is producing and John August is writing. Strahd is the vampire Darklord at the center of D&D's gothic horror setting, and the show tracks how he became one of the game's most notorious villains rather than starting with him already there. Cu...

The Dungeons and Dragons 2 script is finished, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote it. Paramount commissioned it under the old leadership, passed on it under the new one, and Hasbro is now shopping it to other studios. Honor Among Thieves was the kind of mid-budget adventure movie that barely gets made anymore, which is why the sequel script sitting on a shelf stings. The passing w...

Jim Cummings says Disney is recasting him as Darkwing Duck for the upcoming reboot, and that Launchpad McQuack is getting a new voice actor too. This lands two weeks after Cummings was passed over for Disney Legends at D23, and the Seth Rogen produced revival he recorded a pilot for is moving ahead without him. I have a hard time squaring this one. Cummings has been Darkwing Duck, Winnie the Pooh,...

Xbox is rolling out disc to digital, letting you drop an Xbox One or Series X disc into your console and unlock the digital version using the license baked into the game. Thousands of titles are supported at launch, older systems are on the roadmap, and I went straight to GameStop and grabbed six used games at two dollars each on a buy two get one free sale. I walked through exactly how this works...

Dan Stevens is playing RoboCop in an eight episode series at Prime Video, moving from Downton Abbey and Legion into Alex Murphy's armor. I break down the supporting cast, the corporate villains, and the one thing the 2014 remake got wrong that this show cannot repeat. I have been watching Dan Stevens work since Downton Abbey, and Legion is where he really showed the range this part needs, so h...

House of the Dragon season four arrives in 2028 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two is right behind it, but everything after that gets a lot less certain. I rank Aegon's Conquest, Nine Voyages, the Arya sequel, Ten Thousand Ships, and the Golden Empire from real production to a script sitting on somebody's desk. I wanted to sort the entire Westeros slate by one question, which is...

Sega's Golden Axe is back as a ten episode adult animated series, and all ten episodes land on Paramount Plus on September 16. Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Solar Opposites) and Joe Chandler (American Dad!) co-created it, with Matthew Rhys, Liam McIntyre, Lisa Gilroy, Danny Pudi and Carl Tart voicing the cast. I care about this one because of the pedigree behind it. McMahan and Chandle...

Robin Williams Is Back Online and It Is About AI Robin Williams' Instagram posted for the first time in 12 years, and his kids Zak, Zelda and Cody also launched Facebook, TikTok and YouTube accounts in his name. Zelda framed it plainly on her own Instagram: this is the best tool the family has for fighting AI recreations of her father's likeness and voice. I get why this feels strange, and...

Sebastian Stan confirmed he is playing Harvey Dent in The Batman Part II during a French press interview about Avengers: Doomsday. Set photos showing Christmas decorations and wintry dressing have people asking whether Mr. Freeze is next. I have been waiting on a straight answer about Harvey Dent for months and we finally got one from Sebastian Stan himself. He was doing press for a French outlet,...

Brandon Sanderson dropped a real progress report on the Apple deal, and the Mistborn movie just cleared its first big milestone. The Stormlight Archive series is locked at ten episodes, a producer is already picked for Mistborn, and the director search is the next domino. In this Cosmere check-in, we break down where both Apple adaptations actually stand. Sanderson has finished the first draft of...
