Found on Shelf

What do you get when you combine an alcoholic firefighter, a mysterious serial killer, ancient demonic creatures, and cannibal gerbils? Apparently, you get In the Woods (1999) . 🎃 This Halloween, Found on Shelf ventures back into the forest for another obscure horror movie that probably should have stayed buried. Dustin and Patrick tackle this forgotten '90s supernatural horror oddity about a...

This Halloween, Found on Shelf ventures into the woods with returning guest Bitter Karella , author of Moonflow and the new queer folk horror novel Quaint Folk , to tackle the cult horror-comedy There's Nothing Out There (1991) ! Before Scream made self-aware horror cool, director Rolf Kanefsky unleashed a low-budget creature feature about horny teenagers, a murderous alien frog, and one insuf...

Got Resident Evil fever? Take a wrong turn into Silent Hill. This week on Found on Shelf , guest host Casey joins the crew for “Hobo-MurderMaxxing,” a spoiler-filled Return to Silent Hill review featuring an intervention for Gimcrack, an exorcism that backfires, and some deeply questionable attempts to help a friend. With Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil movie feeding our appetite for survival hor...

The Jackalope is back—and apparently therapy has taught them absolutely nothing. This week on Found on Shelf , Specc joins us for Dragonheart: Vengeance , the fifth movie in the Dragonheart franchise and the 2020 direct-to-video fantasy sequel nobody realized they were missing. A young man sets out to avenge his murdered family with the help of a mysterious sellsword and Siveth , an ice-breathing...

Somehow, Dustin made it nearly 20 years without watching Twilight . Kalynn has come to correct that mistake. This week on Found on Shelf, we revisit the 2008 vampire romance starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and ask the important questions: Is Edward Cullen romantic or just an extremely sparkly stalker? Why do immortal vampires keep going back to high school? Where is the actual downsi...

Patrick promised Gabe they could watch a Dragon Ball movie. Unfortunately, Dustin picked the Dragon Ball movie. This week, Found on Shelf tackles Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins , the bizarre 1991 live-action adaptation that somehow manages to be a cheap knockoff, a surprisingly competent martial-arts movie, and occasionally a better Dragon Ball adaptation than Dragon Ball Evolution . Joining us is...

Patrick is back from the dead, Dustin is skipping through time, and somehow the safest thing inside the cursed video store is the sushi. In “We’re Just Bad People,” Found on Shelf takes on Dead Sushi, Noboru Iguchi’s gloriously unhinged Japanese horror-comedy featuring flying killer sushi, martial arts, zombie rice, sushi nunchucks, an acid-spitting egg sushi named Eggy, and a tuna-headed revenge...

In CGI Flydays , Dustin, Gimcrack, and returning guest Gabe dive into S.S. Rajamouli’s gloriously excessive 2012 Telugu fantasy-revenge film about a murdered man reincarnated as a CGI housefly. What begins as a romantic melodrama quickly becomes a full-scale Looney Tunes assassination campaign involving fly vision, micro armor, tiny weapons, occult sparrows, an increasingly unhinged billionaire, a...

Due to some....complications we need to take a short break. Have no fear, Dustin and Patrick will be resurre....I mean they will return shortly. Wait, if they are gone then who am I? Maybe I can finally use this space to write the next great American Novel. Hmmm, but there's a character limi

The Skidooch has arrived… and he’s riding a jet ski straight through a luxury cruise ship. This week, the Found on Shelf crew dives headfirst into Deep Rising —a late-90s fever dream where mercenaries, billionaires, pickpockets, and an extremely hungry sea nightmare all collide in the middle of the ocean. Joined by special guest Cammy, the gang tries (and fails) to stay on track while unpacking CG...

This week on Found on Shelf, we descend into one of the strangest films ever unearthed: The Rare Blue Apes of Cannibal Isle — a surreal, low-budget fever dream involving aristocratic blue apes, pirate crocodiles, toxic flower gas, and a duck named Mr. Quack Quack. Returning guest Bitter Karella joins us to break down this baffling cinematic artifact while also celebrating the success of her splatt...

We’re joined by author and internet chaos agent Robert Brockway to talk about his new novel “I Will Kill Your Imaginary Friend for $200” —a dark, funny, and unexpectedly emotional dive into childhood, loneliness, and the terrifying things that live in our heads (and maybe on YouTube). Then, after we politely let our guest escape the cursed video store, we spiral straight into the 2015 horror oddit...

This week on Found on Shelf , we dive headfirst into the flaming chaos of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance —a sequel so unhinged it feels like it was filmed during a caffeine-fueled exorcism. Join us as we break down Nicolas Cage at peak Cage energy , from demonic transformations to the infamous “scraping at the door” scene that will haunt your dreams. Is this a misunderstood cult classic… or a fu...

Dustin wanted to pick the movie this week. Unfortunately, the Jackalope had other plans. After challenging the mysterious creature that controls the show’s movie selection, the Jackalope locks the studio doors and forces the hosts to endure the entire Feeders trilogy , the cult shot-on-video alien horror series created by legendary low-budget filmmakers The Polonia Brothers . The episode becomes a...

Any similarity between this podcast and real life just happens to be the way things are. This week on Found on Shelf, we descend into the cursed VHS void and accidentally summon the 1990 Canadian cult dystopian satire Terminal City Ricochet… and it summons us right back. What we expected: weird punk rock sci-fi nonsense. What we got: media-controlled reality, fascist talk show mayors, climate coll...
