Fandom Post Radio

In a shocking turn of events for the FPR podcast, our regulars are actually watching far fewer shows than in past seasons. (Except your editor, still only two shows baby!)   Everything old is new again with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Ranma 1/2! Apothecary Diaries is back, as is Blue Box, as is Jojo's Steel Ball Run. Why make new things when we can adapt and readapt and r...

Summer is done and dusted, and the lads are here to talk about what they watched. The full rollout of Smoking Behind the Supermarket is covered. Re: Zero Season 4 returned. Goodbye, Lara toyed with some hearts. Demons of the Shadow Realm, The Ghost in the Shell, etc. Plus a few recommendations!

As Summer gives way to Fall we take a moment to reflect on the changes all around us. First with a eulogy and a look back at the career of the late Mike McFarland. After that we delve into a discussion on changes that anime make to plot when adapting manga, for better and for worse. Don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom! (Also, please forgive your engineer/editor's voice this week as her ass is...

Doldrums. That's where we are at. Why are we stuck drifting with no wind in our sails? The corporate overlords are doing their damndest to turn us all back into surfs. Everything is leased or rented, you will own nothing. In context, we are talking about licensing, expired and out-of-print shows and manga, and what we wish would become physical and available in our native language. Plus news, and...

Summertime, and the anime is fresh, hot, and full of wonder. We have news from the cons and expos, including Gundam and Discotek news (but not at the same time.) We have some strong shows this season, both new and returning, and some shows which are turning out to be very divisive, if I do say so. We have divers and mermaids (but not at the same time), hoards and robots (but also not at the same t...

Do you want the bad news, or the bad news? The best we can do is some neutral news, is that okay? Okay, we do have a few bits of good licensing news! The bad news is the stuff being licensed is going to be harder to find because the traditional retail markets have been sacked. What we have predicted has come to pass and, my friends, the future kinda sucks! We discuss the news from AX 26, Sony's wa...

Have you heard? Smoking is out, freebasing hardcore drugs is in. (Only hardcore drugs, pot will still get you exiled.) We discuss what exactly is going on in Japan and if they need an intervention and detox, along with our final thoughts on the spring anime season. Demon Realms, Witch Hats, Dr. Stones, Icey Ramparts, and so much more! Also news, recommendations, and for the love of all that is goo...

Smoking! Its not just for your grandmother anymore! Wait... we're here to talk about anime? Well, we aren't getting paid by the tobacco industry so I guess we can just forget about it. How about some more takes on this anime season? We (the usual crew) check in on pint-sized witches, smokers, slimes, baseball, banashi, the works! Plus the usual news, recommendations, and usual shenanigans.

The anime production keeps growing exponentially, someday it will swallow us all like an unescapable flood of expanding spray foam. The crew is watching so much anime that we need a full cast to even scratch the surface of what is available. We have daemons, witches, lovers, haters, obtuse comedy, none obtuse comedy! Plus our usual slate of "what fresh hell is this" news and recommendations of goo...

SPRING! It is sprung! A lot of the old, a little of the new. We wrap up final thoughts on the Winter season and look ahead to whenever Netflix decides to grace us with more Steel Balls. Plus demons, demons, and more demons. Some in the city, some up north, some in retail and streaming. Plus a whole lotta news and some recommendations.

This season is full of magic, romance, and violence! There's trauma, history, and hauntings! JJK, Journal with Witch, Love Through a Prism, and so much more! Plus recommendations and the news, as usual. Join us!

It's that time! The time of remembrance, and regret. That's right, it's the TOP TEN of 2025 Episode! Will we survive to see the top ten of 2026... who knows! Kestrel, Cain, Brandon, and Mark are gonna talk about their highs of the anime year and share some submitted lists as well. Who came out on top? Well, you'll just have to listen to find out because I didn't put the series in the chapter marks...

Can't let go of the year until the boys say so! One last quick rundown of the Fall 2025 anime season with a side order of news and a garnish of recommendations. None of us can escape the grim specter of our times. Consolidation, Tech Bros, and the coming apocalypse to finish us all off. Not even our beloved anime can avoid all this bullshit. Can art and anime survive corporate greed, audience apathy, and cynicism? Don't worry, it isn't all doom and gloom in this episode. We just need to get the latest news out of the way before we all slip into Holiday hi...

The air is crisp, lights are going up, and your obnoxious coworkers won't stop playing Mariah Carey. Yes, it is the most wonderful time of the year to be an anime fan who likes to spend money. Nevermind the consumerism though, we are gonna talk about the weirdness of the anime Christmas episode! From the humorous to the romantic and everything in between! What happens when a foreign religious Holi...

Things do be falling around anime land. The usual crew arrives ready to discuss the fall 2025 season of anime. Final seasons of My Hero Academia and To Your Eternity, a new season of Ranma 1/2, spinoffs in Ginpachi, and against everyone's better judgement another season of One Punch Man. We have a few new shows too, so as always when one thing ends something else begins. Will those new things have...

The air is crisp, the season is getting spooky, and we have pile of show finales to cover! The usual crew is joined by Mark again to chat about how all the summer shows shook out. We talk about the summer's hidden gems, many featuring college students, nudity, drinking, and hopefully happily ever afters. Ruri Rocks, Grand Blue Dreaming, Anne Shirley, To Be Hero X, and more! Plus news and recommend...

Reviewer Mark T jumps into the discussion this week as we dive into friendship, effort, and victory. Yup, we're talking about Weekly Shonen Jump, the long running manga publication which has brought the world the juggernauts of shonen manga! From Dragonball to Jojo's to One Piece, Jump has been a hit maker for decades. Yet with the end of One Piece somewhere on the horizon, is there anything that...

We have announcements, impressions, good news, bad news, and just... all the things! Plus some recommendations.

Time to check in on the Spring season as it approaches its penultimate episodes. Cain, Kestrel, Brandon, and Kate talk about all the shows they are watching, or should be watching. Certainly a lot of death in this batch of episodes, isn't there? We discuss Apothecary Diaries, Anne Shirley, To Be Hero X, Gundam GQuuuuuux, and a few other shows. So many shows, so little time! Plus we have a Chopper,...

It's been awhile since we did a really good list episode! Today's topic is Anime Character Designers. What are character designers, what do they do, and why is it so important? Who are our favorites? Who are YOUR favorites? Perhaps Akio Sugino, or Masashi Ando? Maybe even... *gasp* CLAMP? We have answers for all that and more in this episode!

Shakedown, 1979?   Nope, 2025!  Everything old is new again this spring, and the usual crew of Kestrel, Cain, Kate, and Brandon take in a stacked season of new old shows! We've got a Gundam that quacks, we've got Anne Shirley being a red-head, parkour Lazarus, To Be Hero X, and so much more! Truly a season with something for everyone no matter what your tastes might be. Plus one highly anticipated...

Spring is almost sprung which means it's time for a check in of how the Winter anime season went. Kestrel, Cain, and Kate run through what they watched along with a ton of news.
