EatScripture - Ep 259 (w/o background music) - 2 Kings 14:23-15:22 14.11.2023 34:21
The downhill slide of Northern Israel's monarchy continues. Jeroboam II goes down the same bad path as Jeroboam I. The Kings who come after him do no better. Will the downward spiral ever cease?
EatScripture - Ep 258 - 2 Kings 14:1-22 07.11.2023 31:52
Amaziah reigns in Judah and though he does right in the Lord's eyes, he still has some major flaws. His pride seems to get him in trouble with his brothers to the North. Eventually he is pursued and killed by conspirators.

EatScripture - Ep 257 - 2 Kings 13 01.11.2023 37:37
Jehoahaz, son of Jehu comes to the throne and something very Exodus-like happens. Then, another Joash (Jehoash) appears, this time in the North. The North now has a chance to right wrongs of the past and be "resurrected." Will they carve out a better future than their idol worshiping past?

EatScripture - Ep 256 - 2 Kings 12 24.10.2023 36:17
Johoash/Joash has come to the throne in Judah. What does this mean for God's people? Will it be a good reign or will there be surprising events? Interesting, Johoash takes the throne at 7 years old leading the reader to believe there could be a good future ahead. Certainly the repair of the Temple is a good thing. In the end, however, a surprising turn will take place.

EatScripture - Ep 255 (w/o background music) - 2 Kings 11 18.10.2023 38:10
The reign of Athaliah ends and the reign of Joash begins in Judah. The mirror images of the judgement upon the Northern Kingdom and the judgement upon the Southern Kingdom have striking correspondence. Joash gives a reason for hope in the future of the South.

EatScripture - Ep 254 - 2 Kings 10:18-11:3 10.10.2023 32:23
Jehu erradicates the prophets of Baal from the Northern Kingdom and receives God's commendation for doing according to what was in God's heart. But still, Jehu does not turn from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat - specifically, worshiping golden calves. Also we spend a little time introducing Athaliah, the only Queen to reign over either Israel or Judah.

Being confused in this part of scripture is no surprise. Joram (Jehoram) and Ahaziah are names that have come up already as kings, only in North Israel instead of Judah. This means we are seeing the names again. Why? Does the confusion in reading speak to the spiritual confusion in the ancient nations of Israel?

The story of the seige of Israel by the Arameans is strange to be sure. One of the strangest parts is that the woman approaches the king to ask for justice (??) because the other mother has not given up her son to be cannibalized along with this woman's son. Who are these two women? Whom do they represent? The text of Kings and the Old Testament has given us clues. Always, there is more going...

Two more Elisha stories shed light on God's work among the wayward people of Israel, but also on Jesus's work among the post-resurrection church. A floating axe head is used to bring attention to baptism along with the cancellation of spiritual debts. Then stories about blindness and sight come together in Elisha's miraculous intervention first against, but then on behalf of, the enemi...
