Have you ever wondered where the numbers came from for dates such as the dinosaurs' extinction at 66 million years ago? Join us as we give an introduction to the geologic time scale, including relative and numerical dating!

Join Kayleigh and Kelsey as they continue their discussion on taphonomy and all the ways a organic material can be preserved into a fossil. They also discuss a current event that is happening in the museum world.

Join Kelsey and Kayleigh as they discuss how fossils form and the study of fossilization, or taphonomy. They also discuss body and trace fossils, our two main types of fossils you can find in nature. This is part one of two!

This week we are taking a small break from our educational episodes to talk about a couple experiences we have had in the field, whether we are out hiking or performing actual fieldwork! To tie up the past three episodes that discuss igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, we talk about the rock cycle and how these rock types are interrelated.  We also talk about how humans play a part in this cycle!

Admittedly our favorite rock type, sedimentary rocks are the most common type of rocks found all over the world. Why are they our favorite? It's where we find our fossils, of course! Dive in and learn about how these rocks are formed and some common types.

Metamorphic rocks form under a lot of pressure and temperature and can be created from any other rock, whether it be igneous, sedimentary, or even another metamorphic rock! In this episode, we go over the basic types of metamorphic rocks and a brief overview of the environments they form in.

Do you love volcanoes? Have you ever wondered what the difference is between magma and lava? Take a listen as we dive deep into igneous rocks and how they are formed!

Join us as we describe some of the basic principles of geology. We hope you aren't too hungry! Cake will be mentioned a lot.

Join us as we chat a little about the science of paleontology and all it has to offer! We go over what paleontology is and what are fossils, areas of study, and careers. We also talk about what kind of degrees you need and our experiences becoming paleontologists.

Do you know the differences between a rock and mineral? Ever wondered what a geologist studies? Let's find out in this episode as we introduce you to the field of geology!

Welcome to the first episode of Earthen Curiosities! This podcast aims to cover everything on and in the Earth, including rocks, minerals, fossils, and so much more! Join your hosts Kelsey and Kayleigh as they introduce themselves and the podcast in this very first episode!
