Transforming Young Lives: Interview with clinical psychologist, Dicken Bettinger 31.07.2023 46:22
In this episode I asked Dicken to speak about his work with young people. He tells the story of a young man he worked with who "hated everybody" and never spoke in school. Dicken's approach of meeting his client where they are led this young man to the realisation that his hatred was entirely based on his own thought-created experience, and this led to a profound change that transformed his life....

In this episode I am in conversation with Dr Kalen Hamman, who is also a relationship coach. After years of trying to save his marriage, things turned around almost miraculously. As he says when you realise you’re in a hole,...

Reflections on 2021 05.01.2022 7:55
In this episode I talk about how winter is a time for rest, recuperation and reflection, and that if we want something of value to emerge in the coming year, we need to get it in the ground now. I also look back at 2021 and notice that one of the things I learned from a client is the importance of being able to breathe through the mask - that's the "mask" that we wear to protect ourselves when we...
Men who are hard to reach: An interview with Wayne Fletcher 21.06.2021 34:35
In this podcast, Wayne talks about what lies behind men's challenge to share their emotions and the pain they feel. While men may be very present when they are in action (fire-fighting or combat for instance), they often find themselves caught up in a thought-storm when faced with mundane domestic chores. Anxiety Part 2. What is to be done? 12.05.2021 11:27
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to coping with anxiety. But it always starts with acceptance and with the recognition that anxiety is an inside-out phenomenon, like all of our experience. Learning to accept that you are anxious and that like most other people you might fear the anxiety or judge yourself for being anxious is a good place to start. Ultimately though no emotion will leave town...

Anxiety Part 1. Futurising: Why exactly do we do this? 15.04.2021 9:45
Anxiety is not something to be feared. It enabled us to survive and evolve over 100s of 1000s of years. But it has a downside, because we tend to "futurise" - to ask endless "what-if" questions. Anxiety comes with a physiological reaction, which forms the basis of our fight or flight response. And prolonged anxiety has some serious health implications. Understanding how anxiety works is the first...

The Stuff That Dreams are Made On: How Our Experience is Created 25.02.2021 29:11
All our experience is created in our minds. And to do this, the brain uses the same neural networks as we use to create dreams. The model our brain creates during our waking hours is known as “controlled hallucination” because it is constrained by the data from our eyes, ears, etc. The fact is that all our experience is generated from inside, and we call this the inside-out model of rea...
