The Quantum Mechanics - Paranormal Podcast

Encounters with death-predicting entities were once commonplace in folklore, from the Irish Banshee to the Welsh Cyhyraeth and the Scottish Bean-Nighe. But did these harbingers of death disappear in the late 19th century, or have we simply found new ways to interpret their warnings? We explore the legends, the psychology behind our belief in death omens, and whether the Banshee’s message still ech...

What happens when your dog stands on 2 legs and attempts to kidnap a lorry driver? Most pet owners have that feeling that their animals know more than they reasonably could be expected to if relying on 'normal' senses. There are a number of conspiracies that claim the Vatican has a secret archive, packed with controversial documents and suppressed technologies. Whether it is a device that can film the past, secret papers from Nicola Tesla, or the Churches involvement in Antartica, and UFO research. We try and separate the facts from the fiction. To help us in our research to separate fact from fiction (and get e...

When a drug user allows a serviceman gone AWOL into his home, weird stuff starts happening. On the surface of it, it sounds like a delusion - or maybe something exotic such as fairy-folk. But what if it's something a whole lot more man-made, designed to use citizens in a test for something quite sinister? Gnomes, greys, or defence contractors? - that's the question! Consider helping us out...

This week we are swimming in entities that can shift from solid to liquid form. We have a white horse from Wales that can transform into mist; a cryptid who is so ashamed of the way it looks it can disappear into a pool of it's own tears; and a ghostly apparition in the form of a pillar of water. This episode was recorded live in front of a festival crowd at Strange Days 2026. Ben discusses his experiences with corn circle observations in 1990 - Operation Blackbird was a BBC and Nippon TV joint venture to capture the formation of a crop formation, to determine what was causing it. The summer of this year saw the tabloids featuring ever more elaborate circles all over Wiltshire - so the int...

What if the solid, separate world is only the shallow end — and reality, underneath, is a single undivided whole, folded so completely that every fragment contains the entire thing? This episode takes on the strangest idea the show has ever tackled: that the universe and the human brain might both work like a hologram. It's the theory that turns telepathy, precognition, impossible healings, an...

In the 1990s, a small group of people in rural England claimed to produce extraordinary evidence of life after death — including spirit voices, photographs, physical objects and messages from the dead. The Scole Experiments became one of the most intriguing and controversial investigations in paranormal history. But were they genuine paranormal wonders, or an elaborate and carefully executed hoax?...

A look at nine poltergeist cases that rarely make the famous lists — no Enfield, no Amityville, no Bell Witch. Drawing on newspaper archives, Guy Lyon Playfair, Society for Psychical Research journal papers, and first-person Reddit accounts, this episode examines stories that we found surprising. Cases covered: Sauchie, Scotland (1960)  — 11-year-old Virginia Campbell, witnessed by a minister and...

This week we have strange cases of disappearances. A man who vanished in front of his family, whole villages that vanished without a trace, and a pilot who disappeared after a UFO encounter. We also look at an interesting theory about JOTTS (objects that disappear and reappear). To help us continue our investigations and get exclusive content go to https://www.patreon.com/TQMpod

Before the Wilshire corn circles hit the press, Australia enjoyed it's own flap. In 1966 a strange craft is witnessed emerging from a reed bed - and what it leaves behind is a circular formation. We often talk about a unifying theory of the paranormal, and one of the most obvious similarities lies in the stories of alien contact and fairy encounters - but it doesn't stop there. In this episode we examine a number of stories that appear to illustrate that there is a controlling force behind everything humans report as paranormal - and even the fictional, or provably mistaken, encounters...

What if the afterlife isn't wise, glowing, or terrifying — just a bit annoying? We look into the work of Mary Ann Winkowski, the real-life inspiration behind Ghost Whisperer, and her wonderfully deadpan idea that we don't get smarter, kinder, or freer when we die. We stay exactly, stubbornly ourselves. Expect the most practical afterlife advice ever put to print. For early access to our ma...

During the Cold War, the battle between East and West wasn’t just fought with politics, weapons, and technology — it was also fought in the shadows, through the pursuit of paranormal knowledge and unexplained abilities. In this episode, we explore the world of the “Supernatural Soviets”: the scientists, psychics, and mysterious figures who claimed extraordinary powers, and the secret research prog...

When a child tells their parents that they died in a tragic accident in a village 30 miles away, and this explains the scars they now carry in their new life, the claim is considered extraordinary but not unusual. In rural China, these are not ghost stories - they are documented as memories of lives lived before, and they are accepted to be as real as any other memory. In this episode we look into...

We look into 'Chasing the Dark' Ben Machell's incredible biography of one of the Society for Psychical Research lesser known, but incredibly influential paranormal investigators Tony Cornell. Who spent a lifetime investigating poltergeists, psychic mediums, and telepathy. He was also involved in one of the most controversial cases of all time the 'Enfield Poltergeist'. To liste...

We begin this episode with what might be the most extraordinary ghost story of all time - and it happens to a TV star. We then move on to more tales where the dead appear to supply support to the living. All too often we hear about the fear that encounters with the paranormal can bring, so in these stories we focus on those where help is offered. Convincing yet perplexing, these accounts make us q...

After months of visitations from apparitions, three children predicted a miracle would occur on October 13th 1917 at Fátima in Portugal. Between 70,000 to 90,000 people gathered and what they experienced shocked the world. The Sun span, zigzagged across the sky and appeared to fall to the ground. Was this a religious miracle, an extra terrestrial encounter, or a case of mass hysteria? Support us a...

It’s July 11th, 1972, in the quiet, wooded hills of Louisiana, Missouri. A 15 year-old near their home at the edge of Marzolf Hill spots something straight out of a nightmare—a hulking, faceless beast covered entirely in hair, walking on two legs, and casually carrying the bloody carcass of an animal. That single, terrifying encounter was the spark that ignited absolute chaos. Within days, panic s...

We delve into some incredible abduction cases that seem to back up the theory put forward by Dr. Michael P. Masters in his book 'The Extratempestrial Model', that these encounters are not alien in nature, but time traveling humans. Imagine you’re a 19-year-old farmer in 1985 rural China. Your life plan is basically "don’t starve" and "fix bicycles." Then, one night, your bedroom wall turns to glowing red jelly, you walk through it, and three sassy, three-foot-tall aliens politely inform you that they need your "data" for their planet's booming VR adult entertainment network. Welcome to the wildest, most strangely specific al...
