Story River Fables

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This isn't a story I want to explain. Suffice it to say, it's inspired by what's happening in the world right now. Sorry to be cryptic! Actually... This story isn't cryptic at all. Pretty much says what I want to say. So... feet up, mug full, join me for a Story Stays moment. When the story's done, feel free to enjoy the rest of the...

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This story was inspired by an observation made by a friend a long, long time ago, that a lot of the Story Stays stories return home. Returning home isn't always literal. Home can be simply finding yourself where you belong. So... put your feet up, fill your mug with something delightful, and take a moment. When the story's done, feel...

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) Origin stories are a favourite of mine. Here's one that tells the story of Diasamede and the thing she invented (The Story Stays style). It's a beautiful world when we take the time to notice. With that in mind, put your feet up, fill your mug with something delightful, and take a moment. When the story's done, feel free to enjoy the...

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) Here's a story that came about after spending some time with young people. There was a sense of disconnect about them. Something loose and cut off. Like they were in the world, but not really there. Like they were part of the conversation, but they also had headphones on and were watching a movie at the same time. Know what I mean? A...

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This story is for a very special woman in my world. It's for all women who are picking up their own maps and compasses. I love you all! It doesn't matter what the weather's doing in your part of the world... get out there and fricken shine. When you've done that, put your feet up, fill your mug, and join me for a story mellow moment....

Welcome to The Story Stays (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) I KNOW!!! I keep changing the name. But this is it. I promise. The name of this show won't change again. This is a little story about why humans still have two hands and two feet. It came about on a day when I realised, yet again, that I had created a list of twenty things to do that day, then got to the end of the day having done no...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) A fun little tale about Gaia. It's her backstory, Story River Fables style. Origin stories are, by far, one of my favourite fables. The world is a beautiful place, despite all our efforts to undo it. Put your feet up, fill your mug, and join me for a fable story moment. You are a remarkable human. Keep that in mind as you turn you...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) Ohhhhh... Here's a tale inspired by the lies we're being asked to accept as truth, and how the real truth always...always...gets out in the end. It's a beautiful day. Brew yourself a mug of something delicious, put your feet up, and join me for a fable story moment. You have more power than you imagine. Just sayin'. In case you'd...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This little tale was inspired by my stay at Sherwood Forest. Been here a couple of weeks and the peace is pure delight. Trying to get through the thorny undergrowth to retrieve a blue balloon made me ask the question... Why might trees surround themselves with such a dense thicket? Nature is a healer. Find a forest or hug a tree....

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) Here's a little tale inspired by a wondering about where that little voice comes from. You know the one... The voice you hear when you know you should or shouldn't do something, when you have choices, and you aren't sure what direction to go in. The one you sometimes listen to and sometimes don't... and then wish you had. That one...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This story was inspired by a month where I seem to keep on repeating the same mistakes!! I needed a story to help me look beyond my own life and look more closely at family patterns. Whether we know it or not, we're the sum, to some degree, of all that came before us. Not always a comfortable thought... Anyway... Fill a mug, put y...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) If it's your birthday, then happy birthday!! If it's not, then happy birthday when the day arrives. This tale is about celebrating life. It was inspired by how a beautiful friend of mine celebrates her own birthday. It's a thing of wonder. Anyway... Fill a mug, put your feet up, and join me for a mellow moment. When the story's do...

Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This is a tiny, short tale about knowing what to do. I'll let you unpack it yourself. Welcome to Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This tale came about as a result of a little challenge. A glorious friend said, "Make a story." I said, "OK, what about?" She said, "A girl who speaks to trees." And that's how this story came about. I never know what shape the tale will take. This one turned out to be an origin story, but also a story about the balance of power....

Welcome To The Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) Ooookay... don't say I didn't warn you. This one is a little weird. If you're partial to the idea of reincarnation, this little tale is for you. As I write, spring has definitely sprung in Scotland. It's almost 10 pm, but the sky is light enough to see the horizon. It's a thing of beauty. Whatever's going on in your wild and w...

Welcome To The Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) This story is a little around the houses. It takes the path we sometimes take to make decisions. Up and down, left and right, stop and start... But it's better to choose and step into the unknown than to do nothing at all. There will never be a right time. And you will never have all the information you need to be certain. All...

Welcome To The Story River Fables (previously Waffle-Free Storytelling) We all feel lost a lot of the time. To get back on track, we read books, we connect, we hide for a bit, we follow people, we follow ideas... but in the end, we have to take the steps ourselves. That's what this tale is all about. It's a sunny day where I am. I hope you're dressed for whatever the weather sends your way. Whatev...

Welcome To The Waffle-Free Storytelling Podcast! This story was inspired by the way the world is at the moment. It will take a new breed of human stepping up if we're to achieve any kind of balance and harmony in our world. I hope that new type of human steps up sooner rather than later. We can't go on under the current regime for much longer. Surely even they can see things are unravelling. Breat...

Welcome To The Waffle-Free Storytelling Podcast! There's a reason we can't change the past, see the future, and often seem to struggle with our present. It's because of the choices Jarobi made. You can blame him if you like! Saying that... It's another beautiful day on planet Earth, so fill your mug with something delicious, put your feet up, and join me for another random tale. When the story is...

Welcome To The Waffle-Free Storytelling Podcast! Moving from the flow of childhood into the hard lines of adulthood isn't easy, especially when you don't know what to do with your life or when the thing you love to do doesn't appear to have commercial value. How do you find your place and your purpose? This is Sorani's story. Pause for a bit. Put your feet up. Take a breath. And join me for a waff...
