Fishkill Baptist Church

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) You know the feeling. You’re sitting in a waiting room. Your folder is on your lap. Your résumé is inside — polished, updated, every accomplishment carefully worded. And in a few minutes, someone on the other side of that door is going to open…

In this sermon, a missionary on furlough challenges the congregation to move from being spectators to active participants in God's mission. Drawing from Philippians 1:3-8, he uses the analogy of a football stadium versus a Coast Guard rescue vessel to illustrate the difference between a church that merely watches and one that is fully engaged. Every believer, regardless of background or ability, i...

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Imagine growing up in a family where you never questioned that you belonged. You have your mom’s smile. You have your dad’s stubborn streak. Your last name is on your birth certificate. You know who you are. But one day, you get a phone call.…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Growing up as a kid in the 90s, I was a huge Michael Jordan fan. Like millions of other boys my age, I wanted to Be Like Mike . I wore the shoes. I watched every game I could. I tried the fadeaway jumper in the driveway — and I can assure you,…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Imagine you've been living your whole life inside a simulation — a virtual world that looks and feels completely real, but none of it is. The food you eat, the job you go to, the life you think you're living — it's all a program running inside…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) In 1984, a movie came out that gave us one of the most iconic training scenes in movie history. Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) This afternoon is the FIFA World Cup Final — Spain versus Argentina. Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Yesterday, our country turned 250 years old! And I want you to think about what the Declaration of Independence actually was — because before it was a statement of ideals, it was a legal declaration. It was a formal pronouncement that changed…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) A few weeks ago, our family loaded up the van and headed out for our annual vacation. And somewhere on the highway, we started hearing it. This subtle, low, rhythmic bumping. Thump… thump… thump. We couldn’t all feel it right away, but eventually…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Has anyone here ever run a marathon?… Well, that’s nothin’ — My brother-in-law runs ultra-marathons! Not 26.2 miles. That’s just a walk in the park. One ultra-marathons Josh has run is 100 miles. One hundred miles. On foot. Through terrain that…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) I want to ask you something as we get started this morning. Think about how many times this week — just this week — you were told how to live. You walked past the magazine rack at the grocery store checkout and were preached to before you even…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Now, I know that in this room there are Yankees fans. And there are Mets fans. And I also know that most of you are perfectly capable of being in the same room together without it becoming a problem. Most of the time. But I want to take you…

Intro: Theme/Topic (What’s the problem, the question, etc.) Earlier this week, my oldest daughter and I were excited to sit down and watch one of the Celtics playoff games together.
