Send us some fan mail! A furniture store basement should not feel like the edge of reality, but Backrooms makes that simple idea absolutely wrecking. We’re Jesse and Jason, and we go deep on why liminal spaces hit a nerve, how the fluorescent hum and endless yellow rooms mess with your brain, and why this A24 horror movie kept us locked in, fist-bump terrified. We would love to hear from you! Send...

Send us some fan mail! One bad wish can turn “romance” into something monstrous. Dakota joins me this week, and we’re unpacking Obsession (2025), the microbudget horror movie that somehow feels huge, not because of spectacle, but because it understands a very real fear: being trapped with someone who wants you more than they care about you. We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and mayb...

Send us some fan mail! Seventeen kids walk out of their homes at 2:17 a.m. and vanish into the dark, and the worst part is how fast the town decides it needs someone to blame. We recommend Weapons, then we pull the movie apart and put it back together, section by section, the same way the film does with its shifting points of view. What starts as a small town horror mystery turns into something we...

Send us some fan mail! “Damn you people, this is golf, not a rock concert!” Happy Gilmore is still  hilarious and sentimental. We rewatch Adam Sandler’s 1996 sports comedy and get into the real question: is it just a stack of iconic quotes, or is it actually a good movie with a solid underdog engine? Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on th...

Send us some fan mail! Space is gorgeous until it’s trying to kill you. We recommended Gravity, then came back to unpack why Alfonso Cuarón’s space survival thriller still feels like the tightest 90 minutes in modern blockbuster filmmaking and why it can make you realize you haven’t breathed in a while. Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on...

Send us some fan mail! Are you hungry for more Fast and Furious? Well, we got you! Listen to us discuss the next installment in the series.  Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us some fan mail! Casino Royale is the moment James Bond stops feeling like a cartoon and starts feeling like a bruised human being, and that’s why we can’t stop talking about it. We’re breaking down Daniel Craig’s first turn as 007, from the black-and-white opening kills to the parkour chase that helped define 2000s action movies. If you’ve ever wondered what makes a “great Bond movie,” we a...

Send us some fan mail! The movie that changed the landscape of filmmaking. Without the success of Batman Begins would we have the MCU? Listen to us discuss who our favorite Batman is, and how this film ranks in the Trilogy. We also dive into the lengths Christian Bale went to get a bat bod. What's your favorite Christopher Nolan film? Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us...

Send us some fan mail! The first Mission: Impossible is a 1996 time capsule that somehow still feels sharp, tense, and stylish, so we finally put it on the We Recommend Podcast. We are Jesse and Jason, and we dig into why Brian De Palma’s approach turns a big Tom Cruise action movie into a quiet paranoia thriller, where the smallest sound can feel like a gunshot and every extra in the background m...

Send us some fan mail! The most terrifying Spider-Man moment might be a suburban front door opening. We’re recommending Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) and digging into why Tom Holland finally makes Peter Parker feel like a real teenager instead of a fully grown adult pretending to be 16. The jokes land, the school stuff feels lived-in, and the movie’s best scenes are the ones where Peter is clearly...

Send us some fan mail! Jurassic Park still plays like a perfect blockbuster because Spielberg makes us feel wonder and fear with craft, not noise. We nerd out over sound design, practical effects, chaos theory, and why the franchise loses the plot when it tries to go bigger instead of smarter. Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and maybe it will be read on the podca...

Send us some fan mail! We go back to Ghostbusters (1984) and get obsessed all over again with how it blends real stakes, practical effects, and comedy that stays mostly subtle even when the premise is ridiculous. The result feels less like a nonstop joke machine and more like a legit paranormal action movie that just happens to be hilarious when it wants to be. Give us a listen! We would love to h...

Send us some fan mail! Rocky III is the point where Rocky Balboa stops being the hungry underdog and starts living like the champ, and that’s exactly why it hits so hard when everything falls apart. We recommend the 1982 boxing sequel, then unpack why the story’s real opponent is comfort: commercials, celebrity, easy title defenses, and the creeping fear that you might not be the person you used t...

Send us some fan mail! “Man Of Constant Sorrow” is one of those movie songs that rewires your brain, and we cannot shut up about why it hits so hard. We recommend O Brother, Where Art Thou? and then dig into how the Coen Brothers turn a goofy chain-gang escape into something that feels like myth, musical, and road comedy all at once. If you love movie soundtracks, Bluegrass music, or films that so...

Send us some fan mail! A talking raccoon, a walking tree, a mixtape, and a team that somehow becomes a family in record time. We recommend Guardians of the Galaxy and then pull it apart piece by piece to figure out why it still feels better written, funnier, and more emotionally honest than a lot of the MCU that came after it. Give us a listen! We would love to hear from you! Send us an email and...

Send us some fan mail! Dogma is one of the rare religious satires that can be filthy, hilarious, and strangely sincere in the same breath, and we had a blast revisiting it with fresh eyes. We start with the real-world saga around access and ownership, why physical media still matters, and how the movie’s long disappearance shaped its cult status, then we get into what Kevin Smith is actually doing...

Send us some fan mail! A wedding night is supposed to be awkward in a charming way, not “your billionaire in-laws might hunt you to death before sunrise.” That’s the wicked hook of Ready or Not, and we go deep on why this horror comedy still hits so hard years later. We talk through Samara Weaving’s performance as Grace, a final girl who feels genuinely terrified, funny, and furious all at once. W...

Send us some fan mail! Shaun of the Dead is the rare zombie movie that makes us laugh hard and still sneaks up with real grief, and we wanted to figure out how it pulls off that trick. We talk through why Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are such a perfect pairing, how Pegg lands the emotional beats with Shaun’s mom and stepdad, and why Edgar Wright’s direction makes the comedy feel sharp instead of rand...

Send us some fan mail! A great comedy doesn’t just have jokes, it has conviction. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery goes all-in on its swingy, colorful James Bond parody and somehow turns the dumbest premises into the cleanest punchlines. We rewatched it with note-taking brains turned on and came away even more impressed by how tightly the gags are built, how hard the movie commits to to...
