Unavoidable, Adventures in Aging
Unavoidable, Adventures in Aging
The idea for Unavoidable came about when Sue, Shan, along with their two siblings realized their parents were not “Nucking Futs” they were just aging. As adult children of aging parents, they discovered they weren’t sailing this boat solo. Fast forward to today, Sue and Shan are facing the music that they too are not immune to the aging process and they are not about to keep mum about it! Cue the birth of their podcast, where they spill the beans and share their wisdom with the universe.

Friend or Pho...ne 30.10.2026 43:03
Do you find yourself in a love/hate relationship with your phone? One day it’s your lifeline to order pizza before the restaurant closes and the next day it somehow steals 2 hours of your precious time. Have you thought about starting a 12-Step program for scrolling and online solitaire? Do you often misplace it and search frantically only to find it in your hand? This week on Unavoidable-Adventu...
Vote! Yes, You! Go Vote! 23.10.2026 37:08
Mid-term elections are just 11 days away-November 3, 2026. Take advantage of early voting and get out there! Remind everyone you know. Don’t think that your vote doesn’t count. Not voting is actually a vote. “If 10 people are on a bus, and it’s about to go off a cliff - 3 vote to run it off the cliff, 2 vote not to, and 5 don’t vote at all…..that bus is going off the cliff!!” Don’t...

What Are We So Worried About 09.10.2026 38:59
“With age comes wisdom.” Well, if we’re so wise, what are we so worried about? It turns out that we older folks have different things that worry us - loneliness, finances, physical decline, loss of independence. Today on Unavoidable-Adventures in Aging, Sue and Shan talk about the anxiety we feel as we get older. We even learned a new term…gerascophobia-fear of aging. And remember - you’re not al...
Gone Fishing 25.09.2026 0:32
Well, no, Sue and Shan aren’t really fishing. We can’t think of the last time we actually did fish…probably never! It’s just one of those sayings. We are, however, taking 2 weeks off. We’re both taking some time off to do some traveling and we’ll be back with a new episode on October 9th. Please take this opportunity to go back and listen to one of your favorites from Unavoidable-Adventures in Ag...
Techno Dorks Ride Again 18.09.2026 41:59
You know it’s a popular topic on Unavoidable-Adventures in Aging when we do it 5 times! Shan and Sue once again discuss the frustrations they have with the day-to-day technology they have to deal with. Whatever happened to the on/off, volume control, and channel changer remote we used to have to watch TV? Since when did we need to attend a class to learn about all of the fancy features on our new...
Remembering 911 11.09.2026 33:25
Like the Kennedy assassination, we all remember where we were when the towers of the World Trade Center were attacked and collapsed. Today marks the 25th anniversary of that terrible tragedy. Sue and Shan ask today that you remember the images, the faces, the stories, and the emotions. Remember how we came together as a united nation. Not since WW2 had there been such a surge in expressions of pat...

We Have Not Forgotten 21.08.2026 37:20
“We have not forgotten” was the opening chant of the rally held at the McCook, NE ICE Detention Center on August 15th, reminding detainees of the facility and their families that they are not alone. Sue and Shan were part of the nearly 300- unpaid, peaceful-protesters gathered to remind everyone that the fight for justice for all is alive and well…we have not forgotten! Please join us at Unavoidab...
Lies Our Parents Told Us 14.08.2026 28:16
“Lies” isn’t really the correct word. Untruths? Fibs? Little white lies? Basically, things our parents told us to keep us healthy, behaving, and free from serious injury. Of course, there are those involving Santa Claus, but were you told about swallowing gum or putting pennies on railroad tracks? And we’re sure that you didn’t take the chance of cracking your knuckles too often! Join Sue and Shan...

Season 4 is coming to a close so Sue has selected her favorite episode from this season. Enjoy a "rerun"....Sue and Shan are contemplating if we older people are wondering if any one still sees us. Everyday, 11,000 Americans are turning 65. No wonder we ask the question, “Do you see me?” We are finding that retirement is not always a bed of roses. It can be lonely, frightening, and sad. It does no...

You're Never Too Old 08.05.2026 32:26
Diana Nyad, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Sue, and Shan - What do these amazing women have in common? We all made significant accomplishments in our Golden Years. Granted Sue and Shan didn’t swim from Cuba to Florida or published our first novel, but we did conquer some of our techno dorkiness to launch a podcast. Many people well into their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even 90’s are doing amazing things thes...
