This weekend in Anaheim was Disney's Convention for their D23 Fan Club, the D23 Expo. In recent years, this event has been a full-blown movie and television news event and this year was no exception. The media leviathan shared updates and trailers from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar some of which included the most anticipated projects of this year and the next few years like The Little Merma...

Though no one seems to be asking for them, the Disney Live-Action Remakes just keep coming. Okay, that sounds a bit harsh. The truth is that the live-action remakes are not all bad, some have even been quite good. But the struggle that each of the remakes has to overcome is providing a reason for its existence. So, here we are again. This time, Disney has decided to remake the beloved 1940 animate...

Coming off of a historically bad box office weekend, there is a ton of exciting new movies and shows to look forward to this Labor Day weekend. In this episode, we'll preview all of the great content headed our way including (of course) Prime Video's The Rings of Power. Additionally, major moves appear to be coming to both major Superhero studios as DC Films is about ready to hand the reigns over...

I’m not sure if everyone has noticed, but the term “Netflix Movie” is becoming increasingly more common these days. Not only that, but 9 out of 10 times when this term is used, it is used in a derogatory way, like “Hallmark Movie.” Something to keep in mind as, in this week’s episode, we embark on our Day Shift review (it’s a Netflix movie). On paper, this movie has everything you could ask for in...

WE ARE BACK! First What's Poppin' in forever but you still know the drill: we chat the latest in movies and tv and shenanigans ensue. The biggest headlines from the last few weeks have all been streaming-related as streaming is officially more prevalent than cable, Disney+ has more subscribers than Netflix, and new leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery is re-shuffling the deck in a significant way...

ALL ABOARD! Brad Pitt headlines an A-List cast in Director David Leitch’s (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, John Wick) latest feature film, Bullet Train. Like David Leitch’s prior films, this one features dazzling high-speed action sequences and laughs galore but does it have a compelling enough story to make this ride worth the cost of a ticket? In our Bullet Train Review, we discuss all of the twists...

Visionary writer and director Jordan Peele is back with his 3rd feature film, NOPE, which has a little bit of everything and is nothing you could’ve ever expected it to be. Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, and Brandon Perea, NOPE follows Hollywood horse trainers, the Haywoods, as they deal with an extraterrestrial phenomenon on their family’s ranch. Like its predecessors in Jorda...

It’s got the star power. It’s got the budget. It’s got the bona fide blockbuster director duo. Does all of that give Netflix’s The Gray Man the punch it needs to become the streamer’s first major original action franchise? In this episode, Cam and Kirk breakdown Netflix’s latest film, The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana De Armas (among others) and directed by the Russo Brothe...

Marvel has a real knack for setting various con stages and convention centers on fire these days (figuratively speaking). And they were back to their old tricks this weekend at San Diego ComicCon 2022. Marvel rolled out release schedules (some full, some partial) for the remainder of Phases 4, 5, and 6 including many expected reveals and some unexpected! In this episode, we'll break down and react...

After 3 years of PFB, we've finally reached it... EPISODE 200. And if you've listened to any one of those podcasts or streamed any lives over the last 3 years, there's about a 99% chance that you have heard us talk about one topic more than any other: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, our very first review was Spider-Man: Far From Home and our most recent review was Thor: Love and Thunder....

As present, Stranger Things is still the biggest show on the planet. And, as we all know, when a show as big and original as Stranger Things comes around... there will be spin-offs. In this week's edition of What's Poppin', we'll discuss what we'd like to see from a Stranger Things spin-off and whether or not it is a good idea. We'll also discuss the biggest stories across TV and Film including Ma...

Thor Love and Thunder marks the first time an MCU character has reached four solo films. Thor is the only remaining member of the original Avengers to still be creating solo films so, in a way, this is uncharted territory for Marvel Studios. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor Love and Thunder sets out to answer the question “what’s left for Thor to do?” With his story arc seemi...

Visionary director Baz Luhrmann returns to the big screen after 9 years with his new biopic, ELVIS. Based on the trailers alone, you can tell that this movie swings big on capturing the spectacle of Elvis but the big question is whether Baz’s style works well within the historical confines of a biopic. In our ELVIS review, we analyze Austin Butler’s portrayal of the king of rock, Baz’s storytellin...

To infinity and… beyond? For the first time ever, we got a completely new take on the beloved character Buzz Lightyear in Disney and Pixar’s ‘Lightyear.’ This Buzz really is the Buzz Lightyear, the super space ranger that inspired Andy way back in 1995 to ask for a Buzz Lightyear action figure (and the sheets and curtains to go with it). It’s a bold though somewhat obvious idea for a Toy Story spi...

The current #1 movie in Netflix’s Top Ten and the subject of our review today is Hustle, starring Adam Sandler. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good basketball movie but is this the one to end the drought? It’s an ambitious film that features more actual NBA players, past and present, than any movie previously has. In our Hustle Review, we’ll discuss whether that risk pays off and much more!...

Top Gun: Maverick may have knocked both Marvel and DC off the podium for the top of the 2022 domestic box office, but this episode will remind you that superheroes (and villains) still rule Hollywood until further notice. On this week's edition of What's Poppin', we'll discuss the recently announced Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, the first trailer for DC's Black Adam movie, and Marvel's Thunde...

Anytime movies are set in the real world with real world situations, it is natural for people to ask “how much of this is actually real?” So, when Top Gun: Maverick released touting real jets and real Gs, we had to know more. In this episode, we are joined by Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant and Fighter Jet Maintainer Mike Heard as he takes us through the details of the jets, the Gs, and eve...

If you thought the Jurassic Period ended millions of years ago, you are dead wrong. For the last (nearly) 30 years we have been enjoying movies in some version of the Jurassic Park Universe. Whether it be the original Jurassic Park trilogy or the follow-up Jurassic World films, this franchise has been a staple of modern cinema. And now, with Jurassic World: Dominion, we say goodbye to this world,...

Following the box office success of Top Gun: Maverick, this past weekend acted as a sort of "calm before the storm" at the box office. The storm in this instance would be Jurassic World: Dominion followed by Lightyear and Thor: Love and Thunder and all of the other blockbusters to come. In this week's episode, we'll preview Jurassic World: Dominion prior to our Tuesday Night screening. Then, we'll...

Top Gun is BACK and bigger than ever with more fighter jets, more G forces, and higher stakes in Top Gun: Maverick. But bigger is not always better in film and it has been a whopping 36 years since the original movie. In our Top Gun: Maverick Review, we discuss whether Tom Cruise and Director Joseph Kosinski were able to successfully sequel one of the most iconic films of all time or if it is just...

Star Wars continues to be the flavor of the day with LucasFilm just wrapping up their week-long Star Wars convention, Star Wars Celebration, last week and with Obi-Wan Kenobi premiering last Friday. But even with all the huge headlines coming out of that event, there are still a ton of topics to cover including the return of Stranger Things on Netflix with Friday's premiere of Stranger Things 4, T...

And that is not all we have to talk about in this week’s episode. We’ve got no time to lose, and we’d absolutely love to have you join in on the...

Our first star-studded, romantic comedy/adventure film of the year has arrived in The Lost City. So the question becomes, did this movie live up to the names on the marquee? Listen in and be sure to share your thoughts with us on...

Break out your 3D glasses because James Cameron and Avatar are back. We spent so much time talking about Marvel in our Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness review, that we didn’t have time to discuss the trailer of a movie that has been 13 years in the making, Avatar: The Way of Water. Besides that, we have news about the new Pirates of the Caribbean film, Pixar’s next project, Jeymes Samue...
