New To Weeaboo

Episode 107 is here! We watched Serial Experiments Lain. A very of-its-time late 90s anime. Back when the internet was new to people and some were a bit scared of it. Lain really dips into those fears, plus a lot of other things. Although it's never straightforward about it. You can check it out on  Funimation . Content Warning: This anime opens with a suicide, deals with heavy and depressing subj...

Welcome to episode 106! We jump back into idol hell... kind of. Love Live! has a spinoff for Sunshine!! called Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror (Genjitsu no Yohane). More fantasy! More YOHANE! And all the characters from Sunshine in a new world. But it's not an isekai. You can check it out on  Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( h...

Time for episode 105! We decided to watch a 90s anime. It's called Key the Metal Idol! It starts off pretty strong, but then it becomes an utter mess. A gorgeous mess, but a mess all the same.  You can check it on Crunchyroll or RetroCrush . (note: the RetroCrush version only has English audio for the 2nd episode). "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https...

Episode 104 is here! And we're doing something a little different. An indie anime recently popped up called Volicia of Pluto -Vapor Trail Another Age 2006-. It's a mecha yuri anime. Didn't we just have one of those? Anyway, only one episode is out, but we wanted to talk about it before it's no longer available. Because it goes away at the end of the month. So check it out while you can on  YouTube...

Welcome to episode 103! A new anime season is upon us, so we once again have 4 anime to randomly pick and discuss. We got some pretty good ones this time around, despite the generally lackluster season. Historical drama! Horror! Sci-fi! More horror! Minor Content Warning:  Emotional abuse is a core theme of My Happy Marriage, and suicide is briefly discussed during the Zom 100 segment. My Happy Ma...

Time for episode 102! We talked about the original Black Rock Shooter OVA and series. The ones from over a decade ago. In short, they're kind of a mess. But a stylish mess! And unfortunately, not available on any streaming service right now. You'll have to hunt down some Blu-Rays or something. Content Warning:  This anime has some brief depictions of child abuse and bullying. Those are brought up...

Episode 101 is here! We talked about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury! It's the newest iteration of the long-running series, and it's quite good. It also several firsts for the series as well. And there was a lot to talk about. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get to everything we wanted, but we tried. Check it out on  Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are lic...

Welcome to episode 100! We're in the triple digits. And what better way to celebrate that milestone than by talking a big name anime. Like, say, Revolutionary Girl Utena? A surreal anime that is often visually gorgeous. Plus the very strange movie, Adolescence of Utena. You can check out the series on Crunchyroll , and the movie on Funimation or RetroCrush . Content Warning:  This anime has domest...

Time for episode 99! We're talking about Flip Flappers! It's a magical girl anime, and one that's quite the visual spectacle. It's also fairly gay, somehow both subtly and overtly. Simultaneously. Check it out on  Hidive . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ )

Episode 98 is here! Ready for more steampunk spies? Good, because we watched Princess Principal Crown Handler Chapter 2! It has assassination attempts and Cavorite bombs. Plus the usual spy shenanigans. You can check it out for yourself on  Hidive . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ )

Welcome to episode 97! It's Spring, and it brought some new anime (and pollen, but we're not talking about that)! We got some pretty great draws this time around, with one exception. The entertainment industry is rotten! Bad cops fight cryptids! Actresses with supernatural power! And Class S yuri! Kinda. Check them out: Oshi no Ko THE MARGINAL SERVICE World Dai Star Yuri is my Job! "Dimension" by...

Time for episode 96! This time we watched the more recent anime about high school girls in a rock band, Bocchi the Rock! In which Hitori Gotoh has severe social anxiety and joins a rock band. This turns out to be more difficult than planned. But it sure is entertaining to watch. Check it out on  Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://cre...

Episode 95 is here! We dove into K-On! An anime about a light music club and their various hijinks and shenanigans. We actually went longer than we thought on it, maybe because we enjoyed it. Also, there's one thing it's associated with that we briefly discussed. Check it out on Hidive (missing a season 1 bonus episode), and the movie can be rented on  YouTube . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion"...

Welcome to episode 94! We watched Revue Starlight! It's an absolutely wonderful anime, with fun and interesting characters, tons of style, and amazing music. You should probably check it out. It's on  Hidive . And so is the movie . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ )

Time for episode 93! And we returned to the world of Madoka Magica! Unfortunately, not with the 4th movie, but with the 2nd and 3rd seasons of Magia Record. And while we though season 1 was solid but fell short of the original, seasons 2 and 3 are kind of a mess. For various reasons. You can check them out on  Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4....

Episode 92 is here! And we returned to the world of Haruhi Suzumiya, with The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan! It's a bit of a what-if, taking place in a world without the supernatural. And it's also a romcom. Sot it's definitely a bit different from the original. Check it out on  Crunchyroll ! "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons....

Welcome to episode 91! We sample 4 mostly random anime from the Winter 2023 season, as is our tradition. We got a good variety this time around, too. Follow the adventures of an orphan and a demon, a princess and her not-yet girlfriend, a bunch of people running around with special playing cards, or a NEET turned into a middle-school girl, there's a lot. Check them out: The tale of outcasts The Ma...

Time for episode 90! We return to SPY x FAMILY! Because part 2 of season 1 aired. And we have a bit to talk about. Like new characters, new adventures, and even good ol' theory-crafting. You can check out SPY x FAMILY on Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ )

Episode 89 is here to ring in 2023! And we talked about New Game, the anime about video game development. Kinda. And mostly focused on the art team. It definitely has its fun moments, but it also has a few odd problems. Some more obvious than others. You can check it out on Crunchyroll ! "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licen...

Welcome to episode 88! We watched Brand New Animal (or BNA if you prefer)! It's a Trigger anime, so it looks really good and it's full of style. Unfortunately, it's also rife with problems, particularly in the second half. You can check it out on Netflix . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ )

It's time for episode 87! This time around, we watched Hibike! Euphonium (or Sound! Euphonium if you prefer). On one hand, it's a fantastic anime about a high school concert band. On the other hand, it's some of the worst yuri-bait in recent memory. So yeah, some mixed (yet passionate) feeling on this one. We also talked a bit about the spinoff movie Liz and the Blue Bird. Check it out on Crunchyr...

Episode 86 is here! After enjoying the first few episodes way back in our summer anime episode, we decided to watch the rest of Lycoris Recoil! And it was absolutely worth it. Welcome to episode 85! It's once again time to look at some of the current season's new anime. It's Fall, and the season is PACKED. We watched anime set in ancient China, one about ninjas, another about a guitarist with severe social anxiety, and Chainsaw Man. Are they good? Well, to varying degrees, yes. Check them out: Raven of the Inner Palace Shinobi no Ittoki Bocchi the Rock! Chainsaw Man Con...

It's time for episode 84! Love Live! Superstar!! had a second season. So yes, there was some watching of it. This season is a first for LL, going beyond the usual single school year. Plus there's the 4 new first years. Also leaves a hook for the announced season 3. Check it out on Crunchyroll . "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 ( https://creativecommons.or...

Content Warning: This anime contains violence, blood, gore, nudity, child abuse, animal abuse, sexual assault, rape, and torture. These are discussed in the podcast. "Dimension...
