This week on the Modcast I shakedown the breakdown with Vancouver's own power pop sensations Star Collector . Vic and Steve join me to dish the dirt on the making of the band's latest album, Everything Must Go! They're not holding anything back, the band puts it all out there for their seventh full length release. Overall the album has a strong, modern rock vibe with hints of the influences you'd...

Welcome to Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World, it's time to get some summertime booze. At last, at long last, summer has come to seattle. This has been one of the coldest springs on record in the northwest, but the times they are a changin'. The thermometer has actually eeked up over 80 degrees fahrenheit. Not exactly Vegas temps sure, but I'll take it. This week you're going to get a full dose of sunny, h...

No one is united, And all things are untied, poetic lines that emotionally personalize the political, are the opening lines of X's The World's a Mess, It's in My Kiss and now this Modcast #583: The Decline of Western Civilization Contd. As poignant now as they were in 1980 when written by Exene Cervenka and John Doe of X. Now, they again resonate with what is happening in the world. Happy birthday...

Welcome to episode #22 featuring an exceptional track list. I've got a new feature I'm trying out, tracing the roots of current mod bands and bands obviously heavily influenced by mod music. So for this episode I've got The Who, The Jam & Green Day. [Originally aired August 2007 on Mistersuave.com] To set the scene here's a passage from Mr. Suave's First Epistle to the Mods. Chapter 1 Verse 1...

It's time to get exotic. DJ Ken joins me to dig into some modern, 21st century, exotica and lounge music. Another week, another great modcast coming your way. I'm, kicking off the show with an American 60s band that sounds almost more mod than the British mods of their day. The band is Powder and I included them this week in part because this coming Saturday I'm going to get to meet them when they play at the Studio 66 mod night at the LoFi Performance Gallery here in Seattle, and lucky me I'm going t...

Happy birthday to me, and to the modcast! Launched at the end of May in 2006 and here we are both still kicking 19 years later. What can I say about the Small Faces that hasn't already been said? Not much honestly. I'm not a Small Faces junky.  But I do love their music. In fact, in my earliest mod days I think I preferred them to The Who. It's been said that The Who was a band that became mods, but the Small Faces were mods who became a band. I was looking for some covers of Small Faces songs when I realized how few there...

Good luck trying to get a definitive answer to what mod jazz is. It's like the famous comment by US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart when asked to define what obscenity is: "I know it when I see it." Well that's me with mod jazz folks, I know it when I hear it. Maybe soul jazz is a better shorthand term, this music certainly has a lot of soul to it. All I can do is play the music for you and l...

Welcome to Mr. Suave's Mod Mod World. It is hot hot hot here in the pacific northwest. After almost no spring to speak of, Seattle is finally jumping feet first into summer. So, I've happily put together a show that plays well in any climate, but especially seems suited for the summer sun we're enjoying here right about now. From pop to mod with a few stops in between this modcast is going to quic...

Time again for me take a look back at last year, not in anger, but in awe that I survived. And it was thanks in large part to some great music from many great artists. All music, no annoying chatter! A way back when, every year I would crank it up at our annual holiday hootenannies. Then eventually posting the track list online, and generally spreading the cheer. And every year people would beg me to burn them a copy. I even burned dozens of CDs as Christmas gifts in 2000. Seems that people really dig it because of the wide variety of Christmas music; it's got e...

It wouldn't be the mod world without some serious snarling, fuzzy guitaring, drum smashing, maraca shaking, loud and snotty music. Just like elections themselves, every four years whether we need it or not I trot out my election playlist. Think of it like a soundtrack for your breakdown.  So, turn on your least favorite cable news outlet, turn their sound down on the tube and turn this sound way up on your stereo system.
