Bucky’s Basement Podcast

We are honored to have the supremely talented comedian Jimmy Hatcha in the basement this week! We talk the costs and benefits of running as a hobby, comedy, and general parenthood exhaustion.    But the magic is in the Fast Pitch title: High Class Desserts   And the directions we go in: A terrorist attack during a nudist retreat, a bigoted bakery that is not all what it seems, a scheme to break in...

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome... anyways the guys from The Old Guard podcast agreed to watch ANOTHER Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie and come on to discuss.  We're talking budget, or lack there of.  We're talking special FX, or lack there of.  We're talking great acting...seriously some great acting...in other movies.  We're...

Continuing the trend for this season, we have the very funny, very talented Comedian Jessi Lyann in the basement! And she brings the heat in this week's Fast Pitch!    The challenge? Pitch a move for the Title: Searching the Time   We're talking time-travel gameshow mockumentaries, high-tech with equally high-stakes cat-and-mouse thrillers, a social justice crusade through the ages, and an orgin s...

Trespass, the 2011 (nearly direct to video) film had a lot going for it. Great casting: Nic Cage, Nic Kidman (2 Nic's!), & Ben Mendleson. It was directed by Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, Flatliners, some Batman movies). A $35 million dollar budget with little to be spent on special effects...   Sure to be a hit, yeah? Producers were probably shouting "Show us the money!" Studio likely alread...

We're baaaaackk! And we have something special for the listenership this season....Special Guests! Out the gate, we have the in-high-demand DJ BLKCIR: aka Nekos Barnes!   So what do Stephen Seagal's biological sons, a mysterious ride located at the local carnival, Casper the 40-something year old ghost rescuing a mysterious stranger, and some dumb IT guys playing video games in the basement of the...

Sheeeeeeeeiit! The OG three amigos are back in the basement doing what they do best: Drawing titles, pitching flicks, and having a blast.   No special guest this week, just back to basics for the boys with the Fast Pitch title: Pot Tales and Area Stories. Sounds right up their alley.   Added topic: Oldboy finally watched HBO's The Wire. Much to the surprise of Bucky and Juicebox. Of course, they h...

What starts as a case of "my wife got attacked and I am seeking justice" quickly turns into Nic Cage accidentally signing up for the world's most aggressive neighborhood watch. Honestly, reading the terms and conditions would have made sense. Seeking Justice is basically a two-hour lesson that if a mysterious stranger in a hospital offers to solve all your problems for free, the correct response i...

We always wonder if Fast Pitch could be turned into a party game. So, we threw a mini-party with the ladies at the Toxic Waste of Time Podcast: Katie Booth & Ivy Hensley.   And boy howdy, did they knock it out of the park! We also played their opening episode segment: Icebreaker (which was a blast).   We have a lot of great episodes, but this one goes into the books as a top highlight. Added b...

This week we are super excited to have special guests Katie Boothe & Ivy Hensley from the Toxic Waste of Time podcast in the studio for an episode of Fast Pitch.  But before we get into that madness, we decided to get to know them and their podcast a little better... and to find out of they know about the secret Joe C tribute in Kid Rocks Donkey Show & Steakhouse in downtown Nashville.   O...

We've all been there. Sitting in Hell when you learn some velvety, backwoods cult leader has kidnapped your granddaughter for some nefarious, world-dominating scheme.   So, you do what you have to and bust out of Hades in a sick ride, equipped with the devil's own magic shotgun to hunt down evil rednecks.   But you're missing some element to complete your mission, so you seek out a ridiculously ho...

Did you know Bucky's Basement is on the Dark Web? Yep. Along with all your other favorite...interests. So jump on that Tor search engine and find our latest Fast Pitch if you dare. We can't (legally) post what the episode is about here. But a special guest unexpectedly found us while we were recording and made it something unique.    And if you're not brave enough for the Dark Web, you can always...

Two Crusade Bros have had enough of the Holy Land — too much sun, too much guilt, too many swords in too many people. They desert, wander back to Europe, and find the whole continent has gone janky.    Plague everywhere. Crops dead. Vibes: rancid. Hair: surprisingly good. The culprit? A witch. Obvs.   When has a woman ever not been responsible for a continent-wide supernatural catastrophe? Classic...

The Sack delivered something rare this week — four one-word titles. That means everyone gets their own word, their own pitch, their own movie. With Film Editor Ryan Kendrick joining as special guest, that's four totally unique, completely off-the-cuff pitches — each with Plot, Cast, Tagline, and Movie Marriages.   This week, the Sack giveth: Stranger. Neighborhood. When. Frogman. Four titles. Four...

INT. BUCKY’S BASEMENT  NIGHT KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. The basement door slowly opens. CREEEEEEAK. A SMALL PAPER BAG sits on the doorstep — ON FIRE. BUCKY (yelling back inside) IT’S ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE FLAMING BAGS! From deeper in the studio: OLDBOY Don’t put it out with your boots!     Too late. Bucky stomps the flames out with his leather magician shoe. He pauses. Something was inside the bag. S...

The Sack has spoken, and this week it delivered something truly unprecedented: Snow Yogurt and Green. You read that right.   Joining us in the studio is special guest and Nashville comedian Lisle Jones, making it a four-pitch showdown for the ages. Casts, Movie Marriages, Taglines — all built from the ground up with backs against the wall and absolutely no dignity to spare.   And somehow, through...

Welcome to Bucky's Basement! This week, we're suiting up for a **Casting Cage** episode covering the 2010 indie superhero cult hit: *Kick-Ass*.   Critically acclaimed and fan-adored, this one stars Nic Cage, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and a whole lot of people getting hit really hard. The guys break down the subplots, the style, the surprisingly deep charac...

This week on Fast Pitch, The Sack giveth a coveted 3-Word Title: The Posh Climber. Where can the guys take us with a title like that? Mt. Everest... in style? A String Cheese Incident show... also in style ? Or maybe a documentary (ahem) about a flower?    Yeah. We go there.   Same title. Three movies. Zero dignity. Always unique. Always fresh. In 15 minutes or less. Only on Bucky's Basement.

Holy smokes, do we have a Casting Cage episode for you! This week, we review the 2009 Werner Herzog joint: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Nic Cage plays — you guessed it — a shady cop. How shady, you ask?    Let's see. He dates a prostitute. He breaks nearly every law. He does ALL the drugs. There's nothing that will get in his way and nothing he won't smoke (except cigarettes — go figu...

Sometimes when you stare directly into the sun you can still see the sun when you look away.  Like the image is burned into your retina, and your mind.  And sometimes when you watch a lot of Nic Cage movies he just becomes burned into your mind, popping out at the most inopportune times.  For example, when you're trying to record a podcast episode that has nothing to do with him, but he couldn't t...

Remember Knowing? The sci-fi, apocalyptic, sorta-religious action flick where Nic Cage deciphers a string of numbers that predict global catastrophes. And the numbers? They don't lie. We're unpacking alien angels, questionable ciphers, and a story that's ultimately about finding faith — even when that faith is convoluted, chaotic, and kind of pointless.   Just like our review process.   We're fait...

Welcome back to Bucky’s Basement. This week on Fast Pitch, the Sack giveth… “Watching Dawn, The Heavy Cleaner.”   Yeah. Let that one marinate.   With only 15 minutes each to build a full movie — complete with Cast, Tagline, and Movie Marriage — what direction will the guys take?     Is sci-fi in the cards? What about an origin story? Or something closer to home, ripped from the headlines? Or somet...

Nobody said every job would be clean.   This week on Casting Cage, we're diving headfirst into the neon-soaked streets of Thailand with Nicolas Cage's 2008 action thriller, 'Bangkok Dangerous'. A seasoned assassin. One last job. A city full of bad decisions. You know how this goes.   We do our best to find the silver lining in this remake of the Thai cult classic — brought back to life by the orig...

This week on Bucky’s Basement, Fast Pitch pulls the title Don’t Rico Asteroids from the Sack—and the Sack, as usual, shows no mercy. Undeterred, the boys rise to the challenge with three wildly different interpretations: a futuristic sci-fi parable about classism and moral responsibility, an alien invasion orchestrated by a bottom-feeding film producer, and an unexpectedly earnest origin story for...

This week, Bucky’s Basement dusts off another Casting Cage episode with 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, a sequel that proves American history has even more secret compartments than previously disclosed. Nic Cage returns as Benjamin Gates, this time chasing the mythical City of Gold, Cibola, while reuniting with his whiny daddy (Jon Voight), his ex (Diane Kruger), his trusty sidekick (Ju...

This week the guys reach into the sack and pull out the title: Searching What?   Fifteen minutes. One title. No prep.   They’ve got to come up with a movie pitch — complete with cast, tagline, and Movie Marriage, before the clock runs out.   Will it go full-blown sci-fi?  Absolutely.   Will there be a woman with a questionable, sordid past? You better believe it.   Will it somehow spiral into a re...
