The real point of this video is to help you realise that if you have a unique design, you can run a small sideline business selling kits and software. Even if you just get a sale or two a week, that is still a meal or fancy coffee at the weekend. Even a little extra income can quickly add up. At first the postal system can be quite confusing, but it will quickly become second nature. I had a littl...

I've featured a few of these devices in the past. All in the same case and being pushed on eBay, amazon, and all the other unregulated platforms during times of fuel poverty. It appears the recent greed-driven political idiocracy has caused another push of these devices onto the market to cash in on the fact that people are struggling financially. There are genuine engine-tuning devices avail...

An interesting concept that has been around for a while. It's an emergency light that is stored dry to prolong the life of the electricity generating components. When filled with salty water (or urine) the conductive liquid acts as an electrolyte and the cell electrodes can generate power for the light. The unit holds about 300ml of water and uses 10g of salt, but you can adjust as required....

These little thermal fuses are often found in things like fan motors and transformers as a protective device to break the circuit if the device overheats. In many instances that could be due to an associated fault or just an unusually hot enclosure, with the motor or transformer being serviceable. In this instance a new thermal fuse may restore operation. Shunting out thermal fuses is frowned on,...

The seeming simplicity of this sensor, and the massive resistance variation it exhibits when exposed to various gasses is pretty amazing. It probably trivialises decades of scientific research. The module I demonstrated the sensor with is often sold as an Arduino module, but it does NOT require an Arduino or any other specific platform to be used. The module has an onboard comparator with adjustab...

A lever style connector sold in the UK by CPC (part of the Element14 group). This seems to be a UK standards tested version of the very common pass-through lever terminal blocks widely sold from unregulated platforms like eBay, Temu and AliExpress. Here's the CPC catalogue listing:- https://cpc.farnell.com/tiger-power-supplies/tgr-qc-3-3-b/quick-wire-connector-3-3-c-coded/dp/CN24138 Note that...

This is not a sponsored video. Crysound offered to send me a unit to play with, and didn't even require me to make a video about it. But how could I not make a video about this intriguing device. This unit is a demonstrator unit. The final units may have different software and there is the ability to download firmware updates over WiFi. Mike of Mikeselectricstuff has sacrificed his unit for o...

I kinda like the Fakita battery system (Fake Makita) as it is a useful battery pack with built in protection against over-charge, over-discharge and overcurrent. This kit comes without cells and is supposed to make a monster 30 cell battery with five series sets of six-paralleled cells, giving the potential for a 14.4Ah pack if using 2.4Ah cells. (The Ah capacity is at the rated voltage and not al...

A very odd little thing. I initially thought that this was based on a magnetic latching system, but it turns out that it uses a length of a special wire that contracts significantly as it heats up. It means that this unit is very simple with a minimum of mechanical parts and is not influenced by a string external magnetic field as some magnetic units are. The wire is theoretically rated for millio...

My favourite style of pen, as it produces a very solid line. The case colour usually denotes the ink colour, and since I like the purple pens I just empty them and refill them with universal inkjet printer black ink. Depending on how heavily you use the pen, you can generally refill it several times before the tip finally starts wearing down too far and produces a much thicker line. The pen brand...

Today's carbonation calls for a very different carbonator. A Drinkmate unit (not a sponsor). Unlike the Sodastream, the Drinkmate unit is suited to carbonation of many liquids. Triple fartulation - but ultra squeaky. If you enjoy my videos, supporting the channel on Patreon helps keep it independent of YouTube's quirks, avoids intrusive mid-video adverts, gives early access, bonus footag...

Imagine a toilet paper that was literally the opposite of everything that toilet paper should be. Sheets of glossy baking paper that literally just smeared excrement around instead of cleaning it off. This horrific toilet paper was very common in British schools and factories, where it was used as a cost saving measure applied to the menial workforce. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jprctRpCtk...

I got this a long time ago from a shop called T J Hughes on Argyle Street in Glasgow. They had a large display of fibre optic Xmas trees that had a very distinctive appearance compared to the simpler ones with fixed colour changing LEDs. I "explored" one in the shop and when I saw the rotating LED module I immediately bought one. I'm not sure if there was an issue with reliability,...

During the load in and run of this show (Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2024) I was making shorts for the channel's Patreon supporters, to fill the gap of full bench-content while I was working. This is one of the quieter flypasts at the start of the show. The full-on fighter jets are much louder. I was out on the arena for most of these shows, doing physical lighting cues. (Moving lights as...

This is a demonstration of a classic thermal overcurrent device operating. There is a fixed contact, and one on a bimetallic strip that is sized for the rated current. When the rated current is exceeded significantly, the domed bimetallic strip heats up and suddenly clicks to the open position. A plastic shim that was being held back by the closed contacts then pops into the gap between them, so t...

The design of this circuit is quite clever. It's very reminiscent of the type of projects often found in electronic magazines of the 80's and 90's. It uses the venerable NE555 chip to produce a two tone chime effect when a button is pressed. The way it gives two different tones is quite clever. Note that the standby current is a couple of milliamps, so this module is not suited to c...

For a cheap toy, these units are ridiculous. When powered on they establish their own WiFi network and then transmit audio and video to each other. The circuitry is based on a very capable processor with video and WiFi functionality, supported by a flash memory chip and an extra RF amplifier. The units are extraordinarily functional for such a cheap item. If you want to get some to play with then...

Another stunning demonstration of how unregulated online marketplaces have completely destroyed the safety regulations over the past decade. These connectors are sold as accessories for making up your own custom extension cables for things like electric scooters. They carry a huge risk of a connection mixup making metalwork live or causing dangerous damage to the charging circuitry of a lithium ba...
