EP. 33 Sunbendr 31.10.2025 48:17
Way back on St. Patricks day of 2024 we had great pleasure of having local legends Sunbendr come by the Barn to record a few tunes and talk shop. This was particularly exciting for me considering I’ve looked up to these guys since a young age. Brandon Parkhurst (guitar, vox) and Chris Cote (bass, vox) were in a band together called Kut U Up in their childhood. My bandmate in high school had the vi...
EP 32: Shhhhh (now called The Lonesome Roses) 11.03.2025 49:24
It’s hard to put into words what these gals do with their incredible gift of music. Their songs are deep and intentional and the harmonies weave together seamlessly. They were called Shhhhh at the time of this recording but since we sat on it for way too long they have now changed the band name to The Lonesome Roses . This timeless group consists of Molly Jenson and Rheanna Downey, two incredible...
EP 31: Francis Blume 23.02.2025 1:09:52
Francis Blume is a staple of the San Diego music scene and is one diversely talented dude. His voice is timeless and it is apparent that he has dedicated his life to the craft of writing songs. He is also a BT alumni and no stranger to all things Barn Time. We hosted him and skater Ace Pelka back on Ep.8. This time Fracis is joined by one of his best friends and incredible artist Johnathan Hall. W...
EP 30: Boostive 12.09.2023 46:52
We couldn’t think of a better band to get in for our 30th episode than the mighty Boostive from Ocean Beach CA. These are some of our favorite people and musicians in town, and together they make up a collective that is starting to get the respect they deserve around the country and world. We got to joke around and talk about all of their big accomplishments like opening for and working with a lot...
EP 29: In Honor of Cowboy Steve ft. Nena Anderson, Adrian Demain, Jim Austin, Cousin Eli, Matt Ricketts and Katy Martin 31.03.2023 1:26:55
On the evening of February 6th, 2023 we gathered to honor and celebrate the life of the great Cowboy Steve. In studio and online via zoom we were surrounded by family and friends including Cowboy’s lovely wife Adrianne and beloved dog Boone. After hearing stories about Cowboy one thing is certain, he loved his family and everyone in his life so much. He touched many lives through his passion for m...
EP 28: Toranzo and Adam Flowers 02.03.2023 56:59
Here at BT we love musical diversity and originality. I have been waiting a long time to get these guys on the show to display just that. Danny Toranzo plays guitar and sings in the group under his name sake, Toranzo. Patrick McCaffery rocks alongside Danny playing keys and singing backup vocals. Dane “Sauce Master” Delaney holds it down on the kit and also happens to make amazing hot sauce under...
EP 26: Sleepy Pearls, Jordan Andreen and Clinton Prager 19.01.2023 1:02:51
We first caught wind of Sleepy Pearls from our good friend Jordan Andreen who joined the Pearls for this very special Barn Time performance on a myriad of instruments. Jordan has been working with them in the studio to help create their signature dreamy sound that we fell in love with. Also in attendance is session ace Malachi Johnson who has also been working with the band in the studio. We were...
EP 25: Helena Holleran and Brad Zell 29.12.2022 1:03:36
We have been waiting for the perfect time to bring back our very first guest. Helena Holleran is a soulful songstress that lives music. It’s not surprising that over time she has put together one of the most talented groups of musicians in the area. A few Barn Time Alumni make up her “super group”. Malachi Johnson on Drums, Anthony Cullins on Guitar and Ty Kiernan on Percussion (Ep.7/Ep.24) are al...
EP 24: Anthony Cullins and Alex Sorgente 29.12.2022 1:21:11
Oct. 20 ‘22 (the day after Kyre’s 30th b day) marked the return of the great Anthony Cullins. This time with a much bigger band and pro skater Alex Sorgente hanging out with the crew. Joining Anthony’s circus was Phunky Phil Pardel on drum kit, Malachi Johnson on drum kit, Ty Kiernan on Percussion, and Kyre Wilcox playing bass and co-hosting. Ace horn section included Gabe Carson on sax, Cade Gott...
EP 23: Jared Mattson and Tim Pyles 29.12.2022 46:29
What an incredible honor it was to have local Encinitas legend Jared Mattson (Mattson 2) and his new trio with Tony Ferraro (Toro Y Moi) and Joe Lyle (No Pulp Records New Orleans). Also bringing 91x's Tim Pyles was a dream come true. Jared began writing his solo work during the pandemic, while his twin brother dove into being a killer booking agent. Jonathan booked their 35 show tour...
EP 22: Dan Cervantes and John Barry 28.12.2022 1:16:37
It felt so incredible being back in the barn for a really special evening. Not one but two legendary guests. We sat down with The Dude Dan Cervantes, known around town for flying the mothership that is the band Mrs. Henry http://www.mrshenry.com/ as well as running indie record label Blind Owl https://www.blindowlsd.com/. Also blessing us with his presence was John Barry founder of Rollin’ From Th...
EP 21: Drew Pelisek 28.12.2022 54:36
Drew Pelisek is one of our oldest musical friends. Watching him grow as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter throughout the years has been quite remarkable. He’s toured the world playing bass with local band Chon, played drums and guitar for a million other bands, and humbled us with a fireside performance of some original music new and old. We talk about what he loves about music and also some...
EP 20: Clinton Prager 28.12.2022 1:04:45
We had been waiting a long time to have our good friend Clinton Prager on the show. I stand by the saying that all good things take time. No individual has contributed more to BT, and lives by those words than Clint Dawg. From helping us do test episodes, to supplying our crew and guests with the best sandwiches in town, we really appreciate all the support and love that Clint has provided. ...
EP 19: Maracuyá 28.12.2022 43:01
This was a truly special day for us here at BT. Maracuyá is San Diego's first Cuban Timbá band created by Diego Velasquez who also plays Timbales in the group. To quote Omar Lopez "Diego is the only guy crazy enough to start a 16 piece orchestra in the middle of a pandemic". Like Barn Time itself, this band probably wouldn't have come to be if it wasn't for the world shutting down over night. Most...
EP 18: Lee Coulter 28.12.2022 47:08
Lee Coulter is one of the most down to earth, and hardest working musicians in San Diego. Born and raised in Australia, yet he has spent most of his adult life in the US. We have been big fans of his for many years and feel blessed to have experienced the magic Lee brings to each performance. He has dedicated his life to writing songs, and you can hear the love and passion in each tune. Lee brings...
EP 17: Clinton Ross Davis 28.12.2022 43:40
What an inspiration it was seeing the level of dedication to music Clinton Ross Davis embodies. He really is a true gem in San Diego. Originally from Kentucky, he has been in SD for 12 years. Few people world wide are keeping this old-time folk music alive like Clinton is. He is a blazing multi-instrumentalist and a master at anything he lays his hands on. His new album “If I Live and I Don’t Get...
EP 16: Chunky Hustle Brass Band 28.12.2022 45:32
No one kept the music alive like The Chunky Hustle Brass Band during the pandemic. They played a free and safe show on the grass in Balboa Park every weekend for the people. Their motto is “We give the people not what they want, but what they need”. Which could not be more true in a time when us humans were locked up and isolated from our community. Led by sousaphonist Aaron Grag, who also teaches...
EP 15: Juice Box 28.12.2022 57:37
It was a very special Earth Day this year, for a multitude of reasons. Our incredible planet was given somewhat of a rest in pollution with the world shutting down due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Even more importantly we were able to get THE Juice Box down to the Barn to share their virtuosic talents and masterfully crafted songs. The group is led by drummer Matthew Elton Smith who we h...
EP 14: Kimmi Bitter and Willis Farnsworth 26.12.2022 50:28
Our good friends and power couple Kimmi Bitter and Willis Farnsworth join us fireside to play some brand new tunes and talk about their maiden voyage to Nashville, TN. We were lucky enough to catch them right before leaving home with nothing but an old van named the Colonel and a couple of Gibsons. It's been a joy seeing them grow here in the SD music scene and I'm sure they will thrive in their n...
EP 13: Bennett Matteo Band 26.12.2022 1:04:18
The Barn got a visit from some true legends on this fine spring evening. The Bennett Matteo Band is a collective of brilliant musicians led by guitarist and writer Gino Matteo and vocal powerhouse Jade Bennett. Extremely improvisational while having their feet planted in roots music, BMB are a breath of fresh air to the music world. BMB's experimentation and refusal to take themselves seriously ha...
EP 12: Mara Kaye, Tim McNally, and Alfred Howard 25.12.2022 1:30:25
Recorded Live on 2/11/21 Rest in Power Chick Corea We knew this was going to be a special night but I'd have to say my breath was taken away multiple times and my body was being filled with chills constantly. Mara Kaye, who has the voice of an angel, hails from Brooklyn, NY. She met and fell in love with local Encinitas legend Tim McNally while they were both teaching at a blues festi...
EP 11: Coby Lee Brooks and Adrian Peter Ross 24.12.2022 1:01:33
As a powerful winter storm drew near we safely gathered around the fire moments before the rain came pouring down. The wind set the mood for this eclectic journey through time and space. Coby Lee Brooks is really an incredibly poetic storyteller with an unreal voice. The tunes he shared with us really bring you back to a simpler time when telling stories around the campfire was commonplace. It was...
EP 10: Isaiah Mitchell, Nick Pourfard, and Max Killigrew 24.12.2022 2:02:52
The stars aligned to bring us the most legendary line up for our first double digit episode. A portal seemed to open and all of a sudden we were in a guitar dreamland. One of the best humans to ever come out of Encinitas, Isaiah Mitchell, graced us with a few stories and his mesmerizing touch of the guitar. What better match than to have Nick Pourfard and Max Killigrew of Prisma Guitars to show of...
EP 9: Fresh Veggies Micro Brass 24.12.2022 1:21:00
The energy was just right from the start of this inspiring night. The Fresh Veggies Micro Brass consists of some of SD's hardest hitting musicians and sweetest people we have had the pleasure to meet. Wili Flemming leads the group with his mystical vocals and bone-chilling trombone. Wili is an advocate for other marching band kids to start experimenting with what their instrument can do. Jesse Aud...
EP 8: Francis Blume and Ace Pelka 23.12.2022 1:19:05
One of our favorite local singers Francis Blume joined us in the barn along side pro skater Ace Pelka to talk about their recent collaboration on Ace's new video part entitled "Creative Control" now live on Thrasher Magazine https://www.thrashermagazine.com/arti... Francis Blume is a rare talent that has been turning a lot of heads with his incredible melancholy and whimsical sound. Songwri...
