Why does suffering occur, and what does it mean to suffer with Christ? In Part II of “Suffering into Glory,” we continue our line-by-line teaching through Romans and examine four additional reasons suffering occurs: satanic oppression and affliction, persecution because of active faith in Jesus, the revealing of God’s glory and our dependence upon His grace, and the testing of our faith that bring...

Suffering is real, and there is not one of us who has not been impacted by it. But as believers in Jesus Christ, we have an eternal hope that reaches beyond the temporary pains of this life. Continuing from “Heirs with Christ,” this teaching returns to Romans 8:16–17 to consider the Spirit’s witness that we are children of God and what it means to suffer with Christ. We begin examining why sufferi...

What does it mean to be heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ? In this line-by-line teaching through Romans 8:14–17, we explore the Spirit of adoption, the Holy Spirit's witness that we are children of God, and the distinction between entering the kingdom through faith and inheriting the kingdom through faithful living. Through the parable of the prodigal son and passages in Ephesians, Galatian...

What does it mean to receive the Spirit of adoption, and how does being led by the Holy Spirit identify us as sons of God? In this teaching from Romans 8:12–15, we continue examining the believer's spiritual walk and the significance of our relationship with God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we are no longer debtors to the flesh, but that we are called to put...

In Part II of The Empowered Spiritual Walk, we continue our line-by-line study through Romans 8 and examine the contrast between the carnal mind and the spiritually minded life. Romans 8 teaches us that being carnally minded leads to death, while being spiritually minded produces life and peace. As believers, we have been given the Holy Spirit, but we are still called to deliberately resist the fl...

What does it really mean to be empowered by the Holy Spirit? Romans chapter eight provides the answer to the struggle revealed in Romans chapter seven. The Christian life cannot be lived through the strength of our own flesh. The law can reveal our sin and our need for God, but it cannot give us the power to become sanctified. That power comes through God, the Holy Spirit. In this teaching from Ro...

The struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is real for every believer. In Romans 7:14–25, the Apostle Paul describes the painful conflict of wanting to do what is right while still confronting the sin nature that dwells within us. In this teaching, we look at why God’s law is holy, just, and good, yet cannot sanctify us through the power of the flesh. We examine Paul’s statement that “in my fle...

What does it mean for a believer to be “dead to the law”? In Romans 7:1-13, the Apostle Paul explains that the law of God is holy, just, and good, but sinful man does not have the ability to produce righteousness through the law. Instead, the law reveals sin and exposes our need for the grace of God. Through the body of Christ, believers have been released from the condemning power of the law and...

What does it really mean to be free from sin? In Romans 6:16-23, the Apostle Paul reminds believers that although we have been set free from the power of sin, we still make daily choices regarding whom we will serve. Serving sin leads to bondage and death, while obedience leads to righteousness, sanctification, spiritual fruit, and the fullness of the life God has given us. In this teaching, we ex...

What does it really mean to be “under grace”? Does God’s grace simply provide forgiveness when we sin, or should His grace actually change the way that we live? In Romans 6:12-16, the Apostle Paul tells believers not to allow sin to reign in their mortal bodies and not to present their members as instruments of unrighteousness. Instead, we are called to present ourselves to God as those who are al...

The Feast of Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot, is the final feast called out in Leviticus 23 and a feast overflowing with the themes of joy, remembrance, provision, rest, and the presence of God. In this teaching, we look at God’s commands for the children of Israel and remember how He brought them out of Egypt and provided for them in the wilderness. We also examine the feast’s connection to rej...

What does it really mean for a believer to be “dead to sin” and “alive to God”? In this teaching, we examine what Scripture means by the “old man,” how Romans 6 connects our death with Christ to justification, why the believer can have confidence that death no longer has true dominion, and what it means practically to reckon ourselves dead to sin but alive to God. We also consider the continuing b...

What does it really mean to be baptized into Christ Jesus? And if God’s grace abounds over sin, does grace somehow give believers an excuse to continue living in sin? Our new identity in Christ should lead us toward a life increasingly shaped by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. This teaching examines the relationship between grace and sin, what it means to die to sin, the distinct...

In this teaching, we will examine the biblical foundation for the Feast of Trumpets in Leviticus 23 and Numbers 29, its unique connection to the new moon, the importance of witnesses, and the traditions of remembrance, repentance, prayer, and worship that became associated with this feast.  We also will look at the prophetic significance of the trumpet throughout Scripture, including the “last tru...
