A Toast to Horror

Sharpen your axe and pull up your single leg warmer because we are discussing the OG Amityville Horror! Whether or not you believe the Lutz's possession story, you have to agree no one would willingly abandon their new home (especially in this economy!). Get ready for stunning revelations (Jody is a what?) and hot takes (yeah, we stand by our villain) as we discuss (ir)relevant plot points, good b...

We are suckers for any type of production involving Adam Scott, so we were really looking forward to Hokum, but did it live up to the hype?? Scott plays main character, Ohm, who travels to Ireland and gets himself into quite the pickle. Grab your chalk, draw a circle, and listen up as we discuss if we care about Ohm as a character enough to root for his success, if this movie is scary, and why it...

We are coming at you with another 80s cult classic: The Slumber Party Massacre, or as Allison likes to call it, Boobfest. This wild movie takes place in a land where bras don't exist and snails are best taken care of with a meat cleaver. There's a lot of people high up on the Deserve to Die list, as people's freeze instinct are overdeveloped and common sense does not exist (close your doors and wi...

This was a divisive movie this week! This episode we cover new movie, Primate, and boy, does it bring the violence. Did these people all have it coming?? Was the gore TOO much?? Jump out of the swimming pool, check for rabid mongooses, and listen up! Paired with a Swimming Pool cocktail which was a big hit. Rate! Review! Follow! Follow us on Instagram and Letterboxd @toastyhorror Check out our web...

If you've ever needed a guide on what not to do on a road trip, Wrong Turn is here for you! We're not saying everyone could have escaped the cannibals, but we are saying more of them could have survived. This movie is iconic early aughts horror, spawning five sequels and a two-movie reboot! Listen up as we quickly get off the rails discussing Wrong Turn 2 almost as as much as we discuss Wrong Turn...

It's the one we've been waiting for! Join us for an exciting new release with guests Jen of Neighbors Neighboring fame and her husband Jason as we discuss the new horror sensation sweeping the nation, Obsession. This movie, featuring sad sack Bear, is the perfect first date movie so you can root out the red flag dudes before they become a red flag! Bear is simply the worst, there's no getting arou...

We got ANOTHER listener request, and man, does it have a killer soundtrack -- Cutting Class! This 1989 movie starring a young Brad Pitt has some of the wildest adult behavior since Sleepaway Camp, but do they all get their comeuppance? Get your Entenmann's (not a sponsor) lil powdered donuts ready as we discuss plot twists that aren't really plot twists, how geography works, and the proper handlin...

We're back with another listener request: Jeepers Creepers! Justin Long's first foray into horror is quite the ride. He plays the brother in a brother/sister duo on their way home from college. A slew of absolutely horrendous decisions leads them on a run for their lives. The mystery of the villain in the begging of the movie is awesome, but is he the real villain (yes, we actually debate this)? T...

Up this week is another listener request: The Crazies! This is a fast-paced zombie movie where the zombies are reminiscent of the rage zombies al a 28 Days Later, but these ones have critical thinking and fine motor skills. There are definitely tense scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat, along with some jump scares, but do plot holes overwhelm the positives? Listen up as we talk about one...

Buckle up for this listener request! We're discussing 2023's The Boogeyman, a fresh take on Stephen King's short story. Don't let this PG-13 rating fool you, this movie is creepy AF. This movie thrives on sneak peaks and what might be lurking in the dark. When you finally get to see the creature, it's an imaginative take on the unknown. Listen up as we talk about awful friends, worse parents, HIPA...

Calling all Jeff Goldblum fans! This one is for you! Except, we are talking about 1986's The Fly, and even Pittsburgh natives can agree, Jeff Goldblum's character is the worst in this movie. Don't get us wrong, we love a man who wants to change the world, but not through dangerous experiments that kills innocent animals in an unlocked apartment. Way to go Brundlefly. This movie's practical effects...

Join us in our Elizabethan Era! This week we have a guest, Elizabeth, discuss a recent addition to the zombie Zeitgeist, Train to Busan! This movie is so much more than a horror movie. It has great character development, a great message, and wonderful cinematic elements that make it a great movie regardless of genre. Listen up as we laugh (and cry) through a discussion of zombie survival and maybe...

This week we have early 2000's nostalgia as we talk about 2005's House of Wax. This movie brought back some memories for us as we yapped and sipped some cocktails. This movie had good gore, but the foolish decisions were so numerous, it made it almost impossible to feel bad for anyone who died. The end of this movie had such a high temperature in the wax house down in Louisiana, that it certainly...

Hush is FINALLY available on a streaming service, and we went for it! The question is was it worth it? The premise of the movie is terrifying, and it brings up the question of how you'd survive in this situation. Our first recommendation (even though we don't think this would have solved the entire situation): lock your doors and windows, especially when you're in an isolated area. But you know wh...

Today we talk about The Others, an early '00s movie that we haven't thought about...since the early '00s. We haven't discussed terrible parents for awhile, but Nicole Kidman's character is definitely a candidate for Worst Mom of the Year. This movie excels at building suspense, but we found the follow through lacking. Listen up as we discuss characters, bring back Iconic Moment (throwback from rom...

Spoiler alert! We are talking about Together, a newer movie, so avert your eyes and ears if you don't want to know anything about it! Together was a fun surprise for both of us: one of us had a lot more scares than expected, the other enjoyed the tonal shifts in the movie. This movie is a tell-all guide on what not to do when hiking, how not to act in a relationship, and how not to keep a job. Jus...

Buckle up for the second Friday the 13th commentary in 2 months! It's Part 6: Jason Lives! Unfortunately, we are sans husbands for this one; but fear not! The absolutely insane plot line and characters keep the commentating flowing. Tune in, or better yet, make a Campfire Mule, load up the movie, and watch along as we find out what happens when a fandom revolts a major character shift in a series!...

We have come here to chew bubblegum and talk about a horror movie...and we're all out of bubblegum! This week, we are talking about They Live!, a somewhat futuristic movie where it's easy to see parallels with how media works today. This movie comes under the loosest definition of horror: the monsters are not scary, there's no gore, and suspense is basically nil. This movie is an easy watch, with...

We are getting into Trauma with a capital T this week with Midsommar--and we're not talking about the 2 and 1/2 hour run time! Midsommar's main character is unsuccessfully dealing with profound grief, while her bum of a boyfriend pretends to care. Cue weirdo cult! This movie is a strange journey that led to several questions: Is this horror? Is there a hero? Is there a point during ritualistic sex...

Our newest movie, Heart Eyes, belongs to a new category of horror that we are calling horror light. It had a couple jump scares and some gore, but most people will be able to watch it with minimal problems. That is where we differ: one of us prefers to be scared out of her wits, and the other one likes to fall asleep easily. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that one of us liked this movie,...

Is Kathy Bate's Annie Wilkes one of the best villains ever?? Listen up and decide for yourself! This week we talk classic horror movie, Misery and wow does it still hold up. In this Rob Reiner/Stephen King classic, we're constantly at the edge of our seat with the suspense! Paired with a Dirty Bird cocktail. Rate! Review! Follow! Follow us on Instagram @toastyhorror Check out our website toasttoro...

We are starting the new year off with a bang with Weapons! Check out the reason why Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Gladys, a character so evil, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pop up on top ten lists soon. This 2025 standout had plenty of jumpscares and a unique storyline that'll keep you guessing. Listen up as we discuss this new horror classic and how every single character is S...

Welcome to round two of our 2025 holiday specials! This week, we are discussing Christmas Bloody Christmas, which was a pleasant surprise. This little-known movie is unique, with great chemistry between the main characters. We loved this persistent FMC and her never-say-die attitude and really hope she has great insurance. We hotly debated who the real villain is in this movie--be sure to comment...

It's that special time of year where we try to rack our brains for a fun holiday special! This movie proved to be lackluster, but it's Christmas-y! This episode we talk about 2007's P2 and man, there were some choices made. From bad small talk to psychopaths to surprise gore, this movie is one weird choice after the next. You can always we tell we're not fans when we try to talk about anything but...
