8-Bit Eric on Odysee

Sony is ending physical discs for new PlayStation games in January 2028, but there's a much bigger issue than losing physical copies. Sony stopped providing retailers with full-game digital download codes back in 2019. Now, a proposed $7.85 million settlement involving PlayStation Store pricing raises serious questions about digital competition. Sony denies wrongdoing. What happens to PlaySta...

I set a trap for ReviewTechUSA using a fake AI-generated Taco Bell job photo... and Rich took the bait. 💀 What started as a stupid joke turned into ReviewTechUSA spending part of his livestream investigating whether I actually worked at Taco Bell. And the funniest part? I have the receipts proving how it all started. If you've followed ReviewTechUSA, RTU Streams, or the ongoing drama in gami...

And the worst part? You could be wasting hundreds of dollars without realizing it. Between expensive PlayStation hardware, digital game pricing, PS5 Pro upgrade pressure, and Sony's plans to end ph...

PS5 and Xbox console sales are falling while hardware prices keep climbing. Are Sony and Microsoft finally pricing gamers OUT of console gaming? Xbox hardware sales are down 33%, and PlayStation hardware sales are down 25% in the United States through August 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to Circana. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro costs around $900, and certain Xbox Series X model...

Video games look better than ever. So why does modern gaming sometimes feel LESS FUN? We have better graphics, faster consoles, massive open worlds, and more ways to play. But somewhere along the way, gaming lost some of the things that made it special. Remember unlocking characters instead of buying them? Cheat codes, instruction manuals, secret levels, weird experimental games, and buying a game...

PS2 discs are working on jailbroken PS5 consoles, thanks to independent developers. So why the hell can't regular PlayStation owners play the games they already bought? Sony has spent years selling remakes, remasters, digital classics, and PlayStation Plus subscriptions while millions of original PlayStation games remain unplayable from disc on modern PlayStation hardware. Now the PS5SX2 proj...

Sony could be handing Nintendo a HUGE advantage when it comes to physical games, and PlayStation gamers should be paying attention. Nintendo has confirmed it currently has no plans to abandon physical game releases on Switch 2. Bill van Zyll, Nintendo's VP and general manager for Latin America, says the company knows how much its fans still value physical games. Meanwhile, Sony is moving towa...

PS5 jailbreakers actually got Xbox Game Pass running on a PlayStation 5! Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5 sounds absolutely ridiculous, but the homebrew community made it happen. And after seeing PS2 discs working through emulation on jailbroken PS5 consoles, I'm starting to wonder what the hell these developers are going to pull off next. Developer RafaelNGP created PSBox Cloud Gaming, an unofficial...

French gaming creator J0nathan says he lost nearly TEN YEARS of work and thousands of videos after uploading gameplay from Clive Barker's Hel...

Marvel’s Wolverine just gave Sony a serious problem. New sales data suggests 35% of Wolverine’s launch sales were physical, while physical copies reportedly made up 51% of sales in Europe. In France, more than two-thirds of Wolverine sales were physical. That matters because Sony has already announced plans to stop producing new physical PlayStation games starting in 2028. Digital may be bigger ov...

GameStop is asking around $1,400 for a USED PS5 Pro. That’s not a typo. The PS5 Pro originally launched at $699.99, Sony has already raised the official price, and now used systems are being listed for prices that are getting dangerously close to high-end PC territory. At some point, gamers have to ask how expensive console gaming can get before people simply stop upgrading. In this video, I talk...

Sony has spent years sitting on some of the best franchises in PlayStation history while fans keep asking the same question: where the hell did all the games go? Now, a new report claims Sony may be opening the door for outside developers to pitch games based on dormant PlayStation franchises like Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, and Killzone. If that’s true, Sony may finally be realizing what’s actually w...

Do we actually need a PlayStation 6 yet? Sony just announced QSSR, new AI upscaling technology that brings PS5 Pro-style image improvements to the regular PS5. Six years into this generation, Sony is still finding ways to improve the PlayStation 5 — so why are we already talking about replacing it? Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida also believes Sony should keep the current generation going a...

A new PS5 jailbreak called Relapse is blowing up right now, with support for PS5 firmware 7.00 through 13.60 — including PS5 Pro. But this story is about a lot more than hacking. It raises a much bigger question about ownership, control, physical games disappearing, and how much freedom you really have over the console you paid for. In this video, I break down the PS5 jailbreak 13.60 situation, wh...

After 17 years on YouTube, I finally reached 100,000 subscribers and received my Silver Play Button. I started this channel on April 27, 2009 with zero subscribers, filming videos on a Samsung Rant cellphone in a small apartment. Since then, 8-Bit Eric has gone through a lot of different eras: retro gaming, couch co-op videos, The Game Chasers, conventions, the Fine Bros React World controversy, F...

Gaming is getting more expensive, AAA games are costing more than ever to make, console and subscription prices continue to rise, and gamers are increasingly being asked to pay more while getting fewer ownership options. So what happens next? I recently talked about why I think gamers are getting screwed by the direction the industry is heading, but there's a bigger question: how long can the...

Sony may be starting to realize that killing physical PlayStation games was a bigger mistake than they expected. Sony has already announced plans to end physical production for new PlayStation releases beginning in 2028, but a recent report claims the company has been asking developers about potential problems surrounding the move away from physical games. And that raises a pretty obvious question...

Halo got so bad that Xbox is now handing the next Halo game to a new Activision team — and honestly, that says everything. After years of 343 Industries / Halo Studios struggling to get Halo back on track, Xbox is making one of the biggest changes this franchise has seen in years. The next Halo game is being developed by a new purpose-built team at Activision, while Halo Studios remains focused on...

Sony is ending physical disc production for new PlayStation games in 2028, and if this is the future of the PS6, I may be done with PlayStation. Back in 2013, Sony famously mocked Xbox by showing how easy it was to share a PS4 game: simply hand the physical game to your friend. Thirteen years later, that video has aged in a way nobody could have predicted. This isn't about hating digital game...

Marvel’s Wolverine is out on PS5, and apparently some gamers think you have to spend your money and actually play it before you’re allowed to say it doesn’t appeal to you. No. That’s backwards. Sony and Insomniac showed the gameplay, dialogue, character designs, art direction and marketing because they want consumers to decide whether Wolverine is worth buying. If what they showed makes somebody l...

Marvel's Wolverine is finally here, but Sony and Insomniac haven't convinced me to spend $70 on it. The game reportedly carried a development budget around $300 million, yet everything I've seen from Marvel's Wolverine leaves me wondering where that money went creatively. The hand-holding, repetitive gameplay complaints, strange art direction, dialogue, linear design and infamo...

Sony’s digital-only PlayStation future is becoming a reality. With new physical PlayStation games ending in January 2028, this is why I’m prepared to skip the PS6. The proposed $7.85 million Sony PlayStation settlement has also renewed concerns about PlayStation Store pricing, digital game ownership and consumer choice. The antitrust lawsuit alleged that Sony reduced competition by blocking third-...

Sony is ending production of new physical PlayStation games in 2028—but now it wants fans to spend $180 on a LEGO PlayStation featuring an opening disc tray. When I first saw the LEGO PlayStation, I thought it looked incredible. Then I realized how insulting the timing was. Sony is monetizing nostalgia for an era when PlayStation games were physical, retailers competed for our business, and buying...

Sony originally encouraged Kojima to return to action espionage, promoted PHYSINT as a major PlayStation project, and promised its full support. Then Kojima Productions unexpectedly received notice that PlayStation was canceling the game, forcing Kojima to spend three months searching for a new publisher. Now Xbox Game Stu...
