The Other Half

Renfield was the start of the whole "In the Nic of Time" month we've been doing. It's Nic's most recent film where he finally gets to play Dracula. A character he always wanted to be. The movie's premise seems novel as well. Frame Dracula's familiar, Renfield, as being in the center of an abusive relationship with a narcissist. Comedy is guaranteed to ensure right? Chec...

Guarding Tess was recommended by Pedro Pascal's character in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent . "In the Nic of Time" continues with Nic Cage guarding an ex-first first lady named Tess. It's an odd movie all about the dynamic between secret service agents and ex-politicians. Is it as good as Pedro Pascal says it is? Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help supp...

"In the Nic of Time" continues with The Old Way! A western movie most people have never heard about. Most likely because it was only released in a few theaters and went straight to VOD! Nic Cage plays the rough reformed bad guy and you can honestly guess the rest of the plot. But hey Nic Cage gives it his all despite the poor scripts, bland cinematography, other actors, ect. Check out http...

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is apparently Nic Cage! So let's dedicate a whole month to him with "In the Nic of Time" where we'll be going through a majority of his newer movies. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent stars Nic Cage playing Nic Cage. Some aspects of his life were changed, but his filmography has not. It starts off as a nice quiet movie between Pedro Pas...

The Worst Person in the World follows Julie, who is having a quarterish life crisis. She hasn't found what she wants out of her life! Maybe it will take some people in her life to help her understand what it is she truly wants. Then she won't exactly be the worst person in the world anymore. Renate Reinsve, who plays our titular character, won some awards for best actress, and the movie it...

My Date With The President's Daughter is the movie that Disney wants to forget. Maybe because nowadays the president isn't just some goofy guy that people love. The world is too real for a film like this now. So take a back seat and enjoy some '90s nostalgia about what it's like being a President's daughter and how your dad's biggest flaw is that he's just too busy! It&...

We're watching The Fugitive for the podcast, but you don't care. This blockbuster hit movie starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones is a classic in American cinema, but does the movie from 1993 hold up? Or should we not care about it anymore? We made it to the final Underworld movie, Underworld: Blood Wars. What will Selene do when she STILL can't find her lover Micheal AND Eve? Sadly she still has to be stuck with David and go on a Game of Thrones-like adventure! Maybe this final movie will get Mike to turn around on his hatred for this series. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your r...

Underworld: Awakening just awakened these boys to all the possibilities of the Underworld franchise! What if instead of Micheal there was a new hot guy? What if instead of Bill Neigh, there was a DIFFERENT older British vampire? What if they actually started entering the real world? What if a PANDEMIC happened and humans got really involved in the lycan and vampire wars? All of these changes make...

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans fills us in on all the important little details that were set up in the first Underworld movie. It suffers ALL of the issues that come with prequels. Every single one. This is why people are skeptical when prequels are announced. We don't want to see backstories about something we heard in passing during a previous movie. We want to see NEW ideas and places where...

The boys continue the Underworld franchise with Underworld: Evolution. In this sequel, we get to learn what became of Micheal and Selene who need to tell the original vampire about Kraven's treachery! At least that's how the movie starts out. From there it's a mess of events that just keep on happening. "Needlessly complicated" as Mike would put it. Check out https://shop.theot...

It's time for another Watch Till You Can't with the Underworld franchise. There were so many of these movies. Five in total. Will the boys make it to the end of this series that's filled with guns, vampires, and werewolves? Or will they fail to complete the transformation of becoming Underworld experts? What better film to watch on our 420th episode than How High?? Okay maybe there are quite a few better stoner comedies, but it's time to watch a movie Ethan remembers from his young teen years. Well remembers watching, but doesn't remember at all. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Mr. police I gave you all the clues! The Snowman is a movie set in Norway about Micheal Fassbender having one of the most bully-able names in human history while also trying to solve murders. This movie has so many scenes in it where it just doesn't make a lick of sense. It's one of the weirdest bad movies we've seen in quite some time. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ t...

Darby O'Gill and the Little People is a documentary made by Walt Disney all the way back in 1959. It stars a host of Irish folks living it up. But Darby O'Gill is convinced he's seen a leprechaun and in fact, he captures one! That's when the antics ensue. Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone! Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles is the number one rated movie presented by the British magazine Sight and Sound that's conducted once a decade. Does a movie about a woman doing chores for her crappy son while trying to make ends meet as a sex worker deserve top honor? Well, let's find out. Honestly, you probably haven't seen a movie like this before. Well unless you...

What better way to honor a movie about Women Talking than having two men talk about it? The boys give it their best shot discussing a movie about the choices women have to make in a Mennonite community when faced with the trust about a string of assaults. Honestly, maybe you should just go see the movie, it's actually shorter than most of the other movies we watched for the Oscars! Check out h...

Tár is so good we talked about it for over an hour and a half and didn't once mention it was directed by Todd Field who has only directed three movies before this. Tár follows a famous conductor, played by Cate Blanchett, who has recently been accused of abusing her employees. This talks about the fallout of it. Is Tár a monster? It's time to hunt for the answer in one of the longest podca...

Finally, we're watching the most expensive movie of all time, Avatar: The Way of Water not for fun, but for the Oscars! Were we both a little skeptical about how this movie could be nominated for best picture when it clearly should just be in the special effects category, but hey maybe we're wrong. Perhaps this time they make Jake Sulley into an interesting protagonist instead of just the...

If you make fun of rich people and how out of touch with reality they are, like Triangle of Sadness, you're going to be nominated for an Oscar. This black comedy focuses on the fashion industry and the service industry as a whole and how there is a fairly obvious cast system, especially on a luxury yacht. Directed by Ruben Östlund, the boys dive in to see if this is worth an Oscar nomination....

If a remake of All Quiet on the Western Front comes out, a movie most people read in high school, you know it's going to be nominated for an Oscar. This german retelling of the classic book doesn't shy away from the grit and futility of war. In fact, that's the theme of it. Maybe this movie based on an almost 100-year-old book echoes a little close to current events right now. Check ou...

It's Oscar season folks where all we do is watch Oscar movies until the big day and we're starting off with a bang, The Fabelmans! This is a movie directed by Steven Spielberg about how he fell in love with movies. It also features a lot of the family drama I didn't think you'd want to talk about if you make a movie about yourself, but I'm not the most famous director of all ti...

St. Elmo's Fire is about a group of friends navigating adulthood after college. It's a shame all of the men are trash people. Joel Schumacher directs a box office hit that didn't land with critics, but maybe after all these years, it will have aged better than you expect. It is from the '80s after all! Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get...

Michael Bay is getting back to his bad-boy roots with Ambulance. No wildly-looking transformers here. It's about driving around L.A. with two criminals who stole a hospital (ambulance) and simultaneously have to keep a man in the back alive after they shot him. Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul‑Mateen II take Eiza González, an innocent EMT, on the ride of her life against her will. Hopefully, sh...
