The Other Half

The Family Stone feels like a Hallmark movie if it had actual star power behind it. You got Diane Keaton, Racheal McAdams, Claire Danes, Sarah Jessica Parker and more! Let's see what happens when a fun free-spirited guy brings home a conservative girl for Christmas. The drama is like a real Christmas movie because all of the actors sell the drama. It's been a while since we've had a truly bad holiday movie on this podcast, but finally, Deck The Halls is here. Starring Matthew Brodrick (Lillard?) and Danny DeVito, this movie centers around someone who just wants to have Christmas a particular way and another person who is an egomaniacal monster. Who is the villain? It's hard to tell if you listen to movie logic! Check out https:/...

Oh no, Bad Santa said the F-word! This movie has been wiped from Ethan's mind so it's time to watch it as we kick off our holiday special. This movie is a dark comedy about a professional thief, Willie, who, along with his partner Marcus, poses as a department store Santa Claus during the holiday season to rob malls on Christmas Eve. Also, did you know this movie was produced by the Coen b...

Mona Lisa Smile focuses on an all-girls college in the '50s and to help us guide us through there is Ethan's partner, Lindsay. We picked this movie having literally no knowledge of what it's about. Just the title of the film is enough to pique our curiosity. Is Mona Lisa actually in this movie??? Well, other famous artist's works do show up, but none of the characters are in the fi...

Step aside Ready Player One , The Lawnmower Man was the original VR movie. Starring Pierce Brosnan as the hot scientist, The Lawnmower Man is a wild ride about chimps, becoming too smart, and of course mind control! It's the perfect way to kick off an entire month of Stephen King movies. Even if this one is barely related to Stephen King. Welcome to the start of Scream Kings!! Check out https:...

Porky's is an '80s teen comedy that I'm sure most people are familiar with at least the poster of. Comedies age like milk, but maybe there's a nugget of this movie actually having funny moments. There has to be a reason why it was such a mega-hit back in the day. It wasn't just because there was the possibility of seeing naked women on screen was there? Be sure to join The Othe...

John Wayne stars in a 3D western called Hondo, based on The Gift of Cochise!! When you close your eyes and picture a movie about the Wild West, this is precisely what you imagine. Warts and all. John Wayne is such a curious star in Hollywood. He feels like he's made out of a heavily tenderized steak. Come for our description of 1950s masculinity and stay for the excellent John Wayne impersonat...

Remember Me came out at the height of Twilight. Robert Pattinson was quickly getting painted into a heartthrob weirdo instead of just an indie movie weirdo that we all know and love! But we know Twilight is bad in a fun way, but what about the other romantic movies he's in? Well lucky for us we also get Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan in the film as well! Plus we have Belle from a show Mike an...

No longer joined by Ricardo, Ethan and Mike must find a new reason to continue recording. Just like how Rocky had to find himself in Rocky Balboa. A lot of time has passed since the last Rocky movie. Rocky Jr is all grown up, a major character died, and Rocky now has a restaurant! The world keeps changing, but Rocky's core values are timeless! Listen to find out if this franchise ACTUALLY ends...

Rocky V is the last Rocky movie before a long break in the series. It's an odd way to end the series. In this movie, Rocky takes Mick's place and starts training Tommy Gunn, who starts doing really well at boxing! He is so proud of him that he forgot to talk to his very own son! Rocky wants to get back out there. But he's too old. So now it's time to live vicariously through a guy...

Rocky IV is maybe the most iconic movie of the Rocky series. And maybe where the series should have stopped. Rocky faces off against Ivan Drago from the Soviet Union in a battle for American freedom! I'm the unsilent majority here when I say this movie has a killer soundtrack, an amazing robot, Paulie at his best, and of course James Brown. Ricardo returns to guide us through another Rocky mov...

Rocky is a champion in Rocky III! He has it all, cars, a nice house, a loving family, but something is missing. Oh that's right he's gonna have one more fight and then retire. This time for sure. This time his opponent is Clubber Lang played by Mr. T. Who actually gives the Italian Stallion a run for his money! In fact, it shakes him and his family unit to its core! Except Paulie who can d...

Rocky is back for a rematch with Apollo Creed in Rocky II! We needed extra help with this episode so we called in long-time guest and massive Rocky fan Ricardo to give us a hand with this movie. Rocky faces a world without the need for him except for his fighting ability. Yet, he doesn't want to do physical labor. He stuck to his guns until Apollo took out a newspaper ad calling him the Stalli...

We can't stop with Stallone so let's dive into his most famous franchise, Rocky! Let's just say while this movie won an academy award, some parts of it are a bit of a rocky road. Join us on this wild ride as we explore the franchise that started in 1976 and is still running, in spin-off form, to this day. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get...

For Sylvester Stallone's birthday, we went Over The Top and watched a movie that even he hates! How could it be bad? It's the most manly movie around! It's all about arm wrestling, driving your truck, and being a pretty bad dad! Can we get a heck yeah for Sylvester Stallone only agreeing to be in this movie for the money and the fact that "no one will see it anyway"? Looks like...

Shame Netflix doesn't put out its movies on physical media anymore, because it would be excellent to have someone rent Bird Box from Red Box. We watched Bird Box for the podcast since the new Bird Box: Barcelona was announced. We wanted to see if this movie actually did deserve a sequel. A sequel following someone who isn't Sanda Bullock. Hope she's okay. Depending on how this movie go...

Finally, we watch the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast X. Apparently it's the beginning of the end. We hop back into Ethan's sedan to record our immediate thoughts on this movie. That's right it's another car cast y'all! We talked about a movie with cars inside of a car! Will this movie finally convert Mike over to the family?? Check out https://shop.t...

Happy 4th of July! What's more American than 1776? A time when a bunch of sweaty horney men got into a room and said they didn't wanna listen to King George anymore. That pesky tyrant! Now let's just add some musical numbers, imagine what these founding fathers said to one another and of course have some dream sequences with their wives. Finally, we have the American dream encapsulated...
