Minutes

Something going on here with the bass line. We've been quoting Jimi Hendrix alot lately from Foxey Lady: "Here I come baby, I'm comin to GITcha!", at funtimes. We have an apple tree now, and I love to pick apples, so whenever I walk up to the apple tree, I say out loud, "here I come apples, I'm comin to GITcha!" That kind of thing. These are the joke...

Damn I am glad I took the time to learn how to export these. I spent a chunk of time tonight learning how to get these EP133 bits cleanly into Ableton - thank you Son Wu for your tutorial. I love the basslines I make on this thing, and can't replicate it in Ableton yet.. or on anything else. Lots of bookkeeping today after an angsty night, feeling like I've left my composer-self behind, ad...

Slow honeyman. Link to the post.

Sam's birthday today - tonight we celebrate after being holed up with Covid for two weeks. This feels suitably Argento for a fall night. I'm getting the hang of exporting projects from the ep133. Link to the post.

More horn section breakdown. Link to the post.

I got a few new shortwave toys and caught this flat earther (I think) talking a bunch of crazy stuff about all of the planets being sources of light. He's so confident in his read of the situation. Link to the post.

Writing horns with no piano is tough. Pictured are some Suillus I saw by the side of the road. 'Whatchoo talkin bout Suilus' said every mycology student ever. Link to the post.

Some time on a Chiwas tune temporarily or permanently called Big Honey Man. Covid still wreaks havoc on my joints but I feel like I can play without my hands hurting today. Baby was very happy to be planting our first new Japanese maples. Link to the post.

An embellishment on my 5.29 post. Link to the post.

Morning birds seemed to be laying beats down this morning. There's some sparrow cheep-ing, and an owl that I want to get a closer recording of. We finished our last Olalla chore for final inspection today, 4 covid cases sweatily planting oaks and mock oranges. Mike and I thought we were going to this taco truck, which Google maps said was nearby, but it was not there. Lies! Link to the post.

Finally fixed the guitars on Honeyman. Reminder - first you hear the old one, then the new one. The new one has a snap that hits the beat just right. Now that I have a work set up (cleaned up in the pic here) I can thiiiiiiiiiiiiink. Except for this covid, which sux. Link to the post.

It's been a week of Covid after 2 weeks of housework, and today I finally have a music nest set up in our new Olalla house. Basic but done. I was all despondent last night after seeing too many successful outsiders online and those self-destructive I-should-hang-it-up demons were out in full force. I freeplayed on my SG for a while to clear my head and this line started coming out, which seems...

Covid all week this week, in a daze. This is a spaced ditty I started making on the op-1. I must confess to falling asleep several times making this so don';t expect a big energetic dance situation people. Link to the post.

Some Coyotes I caught last night. One real close. Link to the post.

My first case of covid in over a year. It will be a roller coaster ride of symptoms. Missing my tape pause composing and trying to rig something similar on the machine. Sourced from gqrx_20230920_215103_1680000 Clover will soon erupt from these blue-green seed-sprayed surfaces we see EVERYWHERE over here. Link to the post.

Cribbed from a shortwave recording likely from Cuba. Link to the post.

Played with Caudal Peduncle (Mike's band) at Darrell's tonight, which would prove to be a superspreader event. A little embellishment on Wet Spot to help me remember the fun Jehu energy I had goin (in my head at least) that night. Link to the post.

Tape pausing with a piece of my own. Makes me think of the structures differently. I made this image in 30 seconds with chatgpt, which I've been using a lot lately to learn and do really bespoke audio cataloging scripts with, so on an ascending familiarity scale of 1-5, I'm a 3 and starting to note when I stop thinking and farm out thinking to the thing. Inevitable when you are learning th...

Found this recording I made of Max using his vibrating flattening thing on his rig to flatted our gravel road. The sound hypnotized me. Link to the post.

First Caudal practice and things were fun and rock. I found a sweet spot in our ferry schedule that will get me to the city by 7 and home by 11. Here's a little audio verite of Mike coaching me. Link to the post.

Cornelius on the 29th at the Neptune. This is on Dream in Dream, the opening of a tune called Too Pure, but it's slower and more 'live' but.. how is he doing it? Reverse engineering his approach (Keigo Oyamada's) has led me to some unexpected ends before. Link to the post.

Cornelius at the Neptune on the 29th. I was so excited to hear them play Point I did my signature scream that usually leaves me hoarse the next day. So good. Link to the post.
