John continues to address his readers lovingly and strongly with an encouragement to not sin. This should be our desire but we (and John) know that this is not possible. John explains that we have an advocate in Jesus who speaks for us for ongoing forgiveness based on our belief in Jesus. “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 Olly continues our series on 1 John, preaching from 1 John 1:5-10. Olly explores two main themes that come from this passage - the contrast of light and darkness, and confession & forgiveness.

The letter of 1 John was written for two main reasons - to correct false teaching, and encourage the church. In part 1 of our new series in this letter, Martin looked at the opening verses, which focus in on the nature of Christ; the one who has always existed, and made it possible for us to have eternal life - that is, to know Him - through being born as a man.

In part 1 we see the context of the book of Daniel, and the challenge that God's people were facing in being exiled to Babylon. We also see the choice that Daniel made in being resolved to remain faithful to God - the one who always remains faithful to his promises.
