We are all thirsty for something   As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. 2 I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?          Psalm 42:1-2   It’s okay to have spiritual conversations with yourself   Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and 6 my God! Now I am deeply discour...

”When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!”“ ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT ”But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT ”Let all that I am praise the Lord; w...

Asaph is a man of faith.   Truly God is good to Israel, to those whose hearts are pure.       Psalm 73:1   Even though Asaph had faith, he also had struggles.   But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone.  Psalm 73:2   For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.       Psalm 73:3    Envy wrecks your focus.   They seem to live s...

God is the Creator of All Things   The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.  Psalms 24:1-2   Who, if anyone, can approach God?   Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?    Psalms 24:3   There is someone who can approach God   Only those...

The Righteous Man    Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.    Psalm 1:1-...

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.             Romans 8:26-27   We have weaknesses   In the same way, the Spirit helps us in o...

If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.             Mark 8:34-35   And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. And they clothed him in a purple c...

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brou...

“I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”        Matthew 7:23 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s child...

For we know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.       Romans 8:28 You have a new obligation Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.      Romans 8:12   When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that ti...

…in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.       Romans 8:4   Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the...

You are justified from sin in Christ alone   Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.    Romans 8:1   Then God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.   Genesis 6:13   Then the LORD said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your h...

19  Therefore, brothers,[ c ] since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,  20  by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,  21  and since we have a great priest over the house of God,  22  let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bo...

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He w...

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prune so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless y...

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “L...

Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” 4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory ...

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep kn...

I am who I am.         Exodus 3:14  I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.            John 8:12 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.           John 9:5 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died!  Who do you make yourself out to be?        John 8:53 Your father Abraham rejoiced...

“I am the bread of life.”     John 6:35a   When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.         John 6:5-6   When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” 26 Jesus answered,...
