With apologies to Billie Jean King.

Ubisoft looked at Nintendogs and decided “hey, we could mess that up.” The result was the Petz series, where you adopt an animal and train it to fight for you, but not in a Pokémon way. Some talk about cat fur coat patterns determining personalities turns to a more existential talk of easy and superficial ways people use things like astrology and the MBTI to put themselves into boxes.

Shadowrun Returns ends with a whimper as we finish of Jessica and bring the insect threat to its knees with the use of our special mold shotguns. Now, we just have to decide what to do with her. Also discussed: More bugs! How we’d improve the final mission, and the game in general. What juicy North American content do we lose out upon by moving the series abroad? Thank you to Darrin Michelson for...

The cash is in the bag, and the bag is in the courthouse. Lalo walks free and Jimmy gives him a made-up story about what happened in the desert. But the desert follows Jimmy home as he struggles to process the carnage he saw, and Lalo outsmarts Gus’s entire operation before making it Jimmy and Kim’s problem. The uninterrupted 16 minute final scene is one of the tensest stretches of this show, so c...

Second verse, nearly the same as the first! Stone of Madness’s second and notionally longer campaign, “The Gate of St. Jerome” starts out with a promise that it will be spookier and more intriguing than the prior chapter. Engravings left by an engineer gone mad talk of horrible thing beneath the abbey, but it turns out you’re doing more of the same things, and learning more of the same things you...

It’s a classic Duckfeed knock-down drag-out cage match as we disagree about whether or not the Resident Evil movie is good! It’s not in dispute that Zach Cregger has made a very strong adaptation of Resident Evil, capturing a spirit of the games that has eluded previous directors who took a shot. However, the movie’s choice to stay locked on a lone man who’s mostly talking to himself becomes a poi...

Sometimes ghosts!

Shinobi for the PlayStation 2 isn’t a bad game. In fact, Kaye knows that she’s bringing a backdoor WOFF! pick to the show. However, it’s janky and it’s overly difficult because it’s from an era before character action was solved. When we run out of stuff to say about Shinobi, we start brainstorming business ideas to make use of a loophole to get infinite free wood chips… or at least how to use the...

We near the end of the Dead Man’s Switch campaign for Shadowrun Returns, as we learn about the true threat the bug spirits pose and take on our last job to root out the infestation beneath the Seattle Universal Brotherhood headquarters. Also Discussed: Bug Spirits! Pistols and Shotguns Harlequin Thank you to Darrin Michelson for our art this season, and to Gwen Static for the music!

With a little help from Mike, Jimmy has managed to do the impossible: get bail release for Lalo “Jorge de Guzman” Salamanca after the grisly murder of Fred Whalen. One hitch in the plan is that the $7 million dollars in cash needs a ride, and that results in some… complications. Does this pseudo-bottle episode keep working after its spectacle wears off?

Kaye, Dennis, and Jala talk about Star Wars: Galactic Racer, A Rum Case in Fogtown, Tactics Ogre Reborn, and much more! The Grind: Dennis: Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Jala: A Rum Case in Fogtown (Demo). Tactics Ogre Reborn. Kaye: The Forest. The Multiplayer: Underwhelming game weapons or items. The End Boss: 14 year old makes adaptive controller for people who share his disability. PS5 emulation ef...

Things are not going well at a secluded monastery in the Pyranees mountains of Spain. The Inquisitor and the Mother Superior treat the mentally ill people in their care like prisoners, and they’re starting to disappear one by one. It’s up to Father Alfredo and a team of misfits to use their complementary skills to investigate what’s happening and bring it to a stop. The result is a board game-like...

How do you solve a serial killer case when every murder has a different suspect, and none of the suspects know each other? Cure was one of the early movies that brought about the J-horror craze of the turn of the millennium, and we talk about whether or not its sedate and distanced approach to a grisly genre works for us.

Can Gary Butterfield survive... The Massacre At Bobo Pass?!!

Road Rash is a weird series because it was once very popular, and now you don’t hear about it. At all. And even the worst version of it, the hideous N64 game, isn’t all that terrible. There’s just something fun about jumping bikes and whipping people with chains. All this hog talk gets us talking about the appeal of motorcycle culture, and Gary’s encounter with an old gearhead at the store. “If it...

This episode is a very strong argument for having initials that can’t be twisted around to make a motto that will haunt you for the rest of your days. The Jimmy and cartel plot lines collide as Lalo enlists him to arrange for bond, so he can escape being imprisoned for the murder of Fred Whalen. The problem is? He has to pick up the money.

Cultic is a boomer shooter unlike any that we’ve played, being equal parts Blood and Resident Evil 4. You play as the Detective, who woke up in a cult’s mass grave and must now go on a rampage to stop them. What results is one of the best games we’ve played this year. Highlight Project: The Woods at Blight’s Hollow

Top Five Gustavo Fring Moments!!!

Magic Boy is another stilted puzzle platformer with that Amiga stink on it. You are some kind of magical boy, and it’s up to you to stun and basement escaped magical animals so even worse things don’t happen. What really matters is that Gary threw a pool party recently, and we got to cavort.

This standout episode of season five sees the culmination of Jimmy and Kim’s plot against Kevin Wachtell… even if Kim tried to pull the plug at the last minute. This leads to a blow up with a very unpredictable outcome that gives us a lot to chew on.

Kaye, Ben, Dennis, and Moxie talk about Welcome to Elderfield, Normal Golf, the Resident Evil movie, and much more! The Grind: Moxie: Welcome to Elderfield. Ben: Strange Jigsaws. Resident Evil movie. You’ll buy the whole Arms & Equipment Guide, but you’ll only need the nine weapons we narrow it down to after we rank the best medieval weaponry. What’s the benefit of a scimitar? Are bows too basic for consideration? Is boiling oil worth the logistical hurdles? Welcome to all the new listeners at the Duck tier! There’s plenty of QuakStak to go back and listen to. We also talk about: Gwen’s to...
