Commander ad Populum

This week, on CadPopCast, I cover a listener's email about a father and soon duo who are new to Magic. Having a mentor to help guide you is important for new players. Probably, the most important thing as the mentor has a vested interest in the new player's experience. Ultimately, player experience is the most important part of the whole game. Welcome to another very special episode of Commander a...

This week, on Commander ad Populum, I theorize the difference between how fast your deck can win games, versus how fast your deck actually wins games. There's a difference and it can be adjusted to make for a better experience for everyone. Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people. If you'd like to give me your thought...

This week, I talk about the stigma around playing, and playing against, mono-blue decks in Commander. Why don't some people like it? What are some of the strategies. How to make it fun for everyone. Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the people, by the people, for the people. If you'd like to give me your thoughts on today's topics, hit me up on Twitter...

This week, we dive back into the History of Commander with the Commander 2013 set retrospective! We're going deep on the products as a whole, it's legendary creatures and what the product meant for the format. We even spend some time on how this particular Commander product effected eternal formats and shaped how cards are designed, today. Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Po...

This week, I recount a game that I had at FNM. The game reminded me that it's important to identify a plan when playing Commander. A plan that you can lean on, adjust on the fly, and eventually ride to victory over the course of a deck's lifecycle. Additionally, I flex my creative muscle and theorize what types of basic lands are all about me, in my day to day life. It was a fun exercise that I en...

If you're feeling fatigued by the never ending stream of new products that have come out, and that are continuing to come out, this week on CadPopCast is the week for you! I give some ideas on how best to spend your hard earned dollars, if not on sealed product. I round out the episode with some feedback from previous episodes and relate MtG, and Commander specifically, to some real-world touch po...

This week, I discuss the differences, either perceived or real, between universal tutors and land ramp. Two facets of Commander that are more alike that you might think, at first. Both card types exist in the grey areas of casual Commander. The goal today, to separate some of the grey from the black and the white ways of thinking.  Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. C...

This week, on CadPopCast, we conclude our epic journey through Magic's first visit to the plane of Theros. With Journey into Nyx came many cards that I've used in my own decks. We completed a few prolific mega-cycles and some saw a few really powerful hate-bear style cards. Join me to remember Journey into Nyx Welcome to another very special episode of Commander ad Populum. Commander for the peopl...

This we continue our Greek Odyssey with the Born of the Gods set retrospective. With this small set, there wasn't a ton to offer for the format of Commander. But in certain niche strategies, it was great! Additionally, there's a ton of beautiful pieces of art to enjoy. For these reasons, I think Born of the Gods is a seriously underrated set for the Commander format. Join me to hear all about it....

This week on CadPop, we jump back into the hustle and bustle of a new block and it's associated set retrospectives. It's all about the original Theros set and block! The pre-release, the legendary creatures, the cards and the mechanics. There were a ton of cool things in this under-appreciated set. Join me to relive the glory days of the top-down-designed Theros! Welcome to another very special ep...

This we look back at the most responded to topic I've ever had on the channel. The Power 9 of Commander. And, some of the responses were very much different than my original nine-card list! Welcome to another very special episode of Comman...

This week, I aim to answer the questions, when should you take a deck apart? And why should you take a deck apart? At first the answers seemed simple. Then, they seemed difficult to put one's finger on. Then, it turned out to be really simple, after all. Join me to hear my thought process.
