The Pelicans pulled off a messy trade to shed Jordan Hawkins’ contract, sending him and assets to Memphis for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson—though Gibson was waived fast. The move, born from last year’s costly decision to pick up Hawkins’ fourth-year deal, came at a steep price: a second-round pick, a pick swap, and promising defender Micah Peavy. Hawkins scored decently but was inefficient and a defe...

The Pelicans’ gamble on Kevon Looney back in 2025 looked smart on paper—bringing in a veteran center to fix their weakness. But now, with Looney declining his option and joining the Lakers as their backup big, the reality’s hitting hard: his body’s worn down, he played just 21 games last season, and the Lakers are asking him to carry a heavier load than ever. At 30, he’s better suited as a role pl...

At just one year left on his affordable contract, he’s a perfect fit for their balanced roster and poised to be a corn...
