Jon Cronshaw's Author Diary - The Real Life of an Indie Author | Writing | Publishing | Disability

Welcome to Jon's author diary for week ending August 4, 2019. It’s been a slow week in terms of actual writing. I have been in holiday mode, so I've been doing dad stuff. My mother came to stay and took a daytrip to Blackpool in scorching sunshine. I spent most of the day nipping between areas of shade and pouring bowls of water for my guide dog, Digit. It's been difficult to keep any kind of writ...

Welcome to Jon's author diary for July 29, 2019. Last week was the 10th anniversary of my wife and me getting married. So we went to Scotland to spend a week in a log cabin enjoying wine and a hot tub. We then went to Edinburgh, where I attended the 20books conference, and got to meet some great authors and catch up with some old friends. So my head is still spinning from that. I’m what you’d desc...

Hello, welcome to Jon's author diary for the week ending July 21, 2019. I have finished my first draft of Blind Reset ! It’s taken me over a year, but I've done it. It's a good feeling to know that it’s not an abandoned project, just postponed one. I also got Wheel of Fortune back from a proofread, so I just need to write an author's note and format it, so I’ll probably get that out in the first w...

Welcome to Jon's author diary for the week ending, July 14, 2019. I’ve had another productive week. I’ve been working on my first draft of Blind Reset , my follow-up to Blind Gambit . I'm just about to write the final six chapters, so I should have a first draft of this book ready by the middle of next week. Consider I abandoned this book a year ago, it feels great to know I’ve nearly got the stor...

Welcome to Jon's Author Diary for the week ending July 7, 2019. This week has been characterised by getting first drafts done. I complete the first drafts of Cleric of the Wasteland, the Black Death trilogy, and Black Death: London .   Black Death: London Now, I’m not quite sure what Black Death: London will end up being. It could work as a standalone novella, my co-author could write his own poin...

Welcome to my author diary for the week ending June 30, 2019. I’ve had another productive week. Welcome to Jon's Author Diary for the week ending June 9, 2019. I am back at the writing desk after last week's half-term holiday and have been experimenting with a new schedule for my work. So instead of just focusing on one project at a time, I now work on a project that needs editing in the mornings and write first drafts and outlines during the afternoon. I’ll track how much I do over the next...

Welcome to Jon's author diary for the week ending June 2, 2019. This week was the half-term holidays, so my wife and son have been at home. We visited my family in the Midlands, so it was great to catch up with my siblings. On the car journey, we listened to How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. It was a lot of fun and vastly different to the movies. I think the only things they kept from t...

Welcome to Jon's Author Diary for the week ending May 26, 2019. I carried on writing my non-fiction books. I sent Finish Your First Novel off to my beta readers to get some feedback and finished the second draft of the main body of Podcasting for Authors. The next step in that book is to write the appendices because the main section is principles on preparing a podcast and how to source and conduc...

Hello and welcome to my Author Diary for the week ending May 12, 2019. May 12 is my birthday. So happy birthday to me. I received a new guitar amp from my wife, so I’ll be annoying my neighbours/family with clumsy renditions of Queens of the Stone Age songs. I had a mixed bag of a week. It was a bank holiday on Monday so that meant one less writing day and then on Tuesday and Wednesday I was feeli...

Hello, welcome to my author newsletter for the week ending May 5, 2019. I’ve had a very productive week. I managed to finish my first draft of The Hermit, episode nine of The Ravenglass Chronicles. I'm really pleased with how that went. I think it answers a few questions and raise more. I also finished writing the new scenes for the third Black Death novel. This was fast-paced, with a lot of drama...

Hello, welcome to my Author Diary for the week ending April 28, 2019.   I had a fun week. I’ve not done much in the way of work. My sister came to stay with her boyfriend and my nephew. My nephew is eight and my son is six, and they get on really well. I have to say it was a bit noisy, but they had a good time, so that's the main thing.   In terms of actual work, I wrote two scenes for The Hermit...

Hello, welcome to my Author Diary for the week ending April 21, 2019.   This week has been a bit different to what I expected. My son went to stay with his grandma for a couple of days, so that gave me chance to do some writing.   Because this wasn't scheduled work week, I decided to focus on the Black Death series, so I wrote twenty scenes—ten for book one and ten for book two—to fill in the gaps...

Hello, welcome to my author update the weekend. In April 14, 2019.  I've had a very busy week. Admittedly, most of it’s been spent playing with my son who is on his Easter holiday. We’ve been enjoying the sunshine, wrestling on his trampoline, and bingeing on David Attenborough programs. We watched the whole series of Frozen Planet and Galapagos. We also watched the movie Wreck-it Ralph, which I'v...
