Twin Terrors Macabre Manor of Mead Metal and Mayhem

Happy Halloween to all of you!  We hope you enjoy the best and most spooky of holidays this evening, as the sun sets and we go into the dark time of the year (for those of us in the northern hemisphere anyway!). Just a short episode to wish you spookiness, talk about what we're doing tonight, and then recaps of Nosferatu whose 100th anniversary is this year and of Halloween III whose 40th is this...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome to the 4th of Jody's Japanese horror flicks!  This time, sticking with the theme of this week's trippy hippy stuff (we're looking at you, Dracula AD 1972), we talk about House, that very interesting Japanese horror movie. Next week's episode is a Happy Halloween. Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-4pksr-a17e1a Or on Facebo...

Welcome to more evil, spooky fun here at the Manor!  50 years ago, Christopher Lee once again donned his vampire cloak for Hammer Horror, for "Dracula A.D. 1972" and we are eerily happy that he did so!  Join us as we delve into the spooky and trippy/groovy/hippy movie that finally brings Drac himself into the modern era (on screen). Next week's episode is about the Japanese trippy hippy movie Hous...

Welcome to more spooky goodness at the Manor!  We're continuing Jody's spooooooky arc with the third Japanese horror films, this time it being 1964's Kwaidan!  Slice a bit of Barm Brack and a dram of witches' brew and enjoy!  Next week's episode is... well, either Dracula AD 1972 or House depending on who finishes first, but those are our next two episodes! Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https:...

Welcome back to Halloween's spooky season here at the Manor!  Our bonus episode this week is on the first of the Cornetto trilogy, that excellent RomComZom from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead from 2004.  We'll get to the other films in the trilogy, but with zombies and pints of ale, this fits the Manor perfectly for Samhain.  Head over to the Winchester or whatever your local is, g...

Welcome back to more horrific Samhain spookiness!  Our doubling up of episodes for spooky season consists of four Japanese horror movies, as recommended by Jody.  Earlier this week you heard us discuss Ugetsu and now it is time for Kuroneko from 1968!  Pour a pint or maybe some sake and enjoy! Next week's episode is about the first of the Cornetto trilogy, Shaun of the Dead. Get in touch with us a...

Welcome back to spooky season at the Manor!  For this week's special episode, we talk about Ugetsu, the 1958 Japanese horror movie.  You'll see this year that Jody wanted to get into some Japanese horror flicks and this is the first!   Enjoy some spookiness from the land of the rising sun! Next week's episode is on Kuroneko, the Japanese horror film from 1968. Get in touch with us at Podbean:  htt...

Next week's episode is Ugetsu, the 1958 Japanese horror movie. Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-4...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome to spooky season again!  For the first non-Friday episode of our October Blitzkrieg, we're talking about Glorious!  This Lovecraftian horror movie may or may not bathroom glory holes (it does) and is also rather hilarious.  Join us for a review! Next week's episode is about the ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman! Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podb...

Welcome back to the Manor!  We recorded this episode a couple months ago, but thought an episode about haunted pubs would make for a great pre-Halloween episode!  We didn't record it specifically as a Halloween thing, so it's not going into October, but will work well here!  We hope you enjoy and we'll see you next week for some Samhain spookiness! Next week's episode is the start of our Halloween...

Welcome back to the Manor!  And welcome back to our Tommy Bolin arc with the final episode before Tommy overlaps with another main topic that we've discussed.  Yes, James knows he previously wrote that part 3 was the last, but he was wrong.  Jody had more up his battle vest sleeve.   And what does Tommy do next that overlaps?  Wait and see, good listeners!  All will be revealed, but we have spooky...

Welcome back to the Manor!  It's Hobbit Day, which also means it is our anniversary episode!  We eat (and talk about) second breakfasts and foods of Middle Earth in general.  We hope you've been enjoying us and we look forward to another year of inane (and that's not a misspelling) episodes! And yes, we know we're six days early, Hobbit Day being the 22nd, but it's six days early or one day late. ...

Welcome back to the Manor and get ready for some honey mead fun.  We've already mentioned Ravenwood Meadery once in the podcast, but it was so good, this time we went the full monty.  No, not the male stripper way.  Nobody wants that.  But we did try several of their meads.  We give background information on mead styles and tasting notes and some background on the meadery itself.  Plus this one is...

Welcome back to the Manor!  This time, we both discuss one person/place/thing that overlaps with our podcast episodes.  From horror to Tolkien to music to literature to movies to... well, you get the point.  But if you want to know who we picked (hint: James' person is one of the Gandalfs), you'll have to listen! Next week's episode is all about Ravenwood Meadery. Get in touch with us at Podbean: ...

Welcome back to the Manor!  I asked Jody if he wanted to record and he said "yes."  I asked what topic and he said "yes."  So this is episode is about YES.  What does that mean?  The word?  The band?  Some acronym indicating that we are Young Exciting Scum?  Well, two out of three ain't bad. Next week's episode is on an overlap... someone or something that has overlapped with some of the many topi...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome back to the last of our Monty Python series 3 episodes!  It's a sad day, as after this, John Cleese will no longer be a part of the Flying Circus.  He will, of course, return for Monty Python things, just not FC.  So enjoy some background information on how the USA discovered the Pythons for good and some of our favorite moments from the last three episode of...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome to another cryptid episode!  This time we give 11 Indiana cryptids (this episode goes to 11).  Don't be too spooked, but you may also take these as warnings when you're out traipsing the state of Indiana!  From the Beast of Busco to the Gullywompus to the Mill Race Monster and more, we hope you enjoy! Next week's episode is the last episode of our Monty Python...

Welcome back to the Manor!  We do love us some Lovecraft.  In fact, we've both recently read a short story by the author, without realizing the other had as well, so when we wanted to do an episode on a short story recommendation, imagine our surprise when it was the same guy!  Okay, it wasn't a huge shock, but maybe a little.  Which two do we recommend?  Listen on and find out!  Pour yourself a p...

Welcome back to the Manor and the ever expanding Tommy Bolin arc!  We're in episode 4 now, with one more before we get to an overlap with another series.  We hope you enjoy this episode on one of Jody's favorite guitarists/musicians! Next week's episode is on recent short stories -- one each that we've read recently. Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-4pksr-a1...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome to what is quite possibly the shortest Python episode we've ever done, besides that first one on the exact date of their 50th anniversary where we talked about our favorite things.  We continue series 3 with some background of what happened during this series, then get into episodes 8 through 10, which includes a fair bit of their most censored episodes and sk...

Welcome back to the Manor!  This week we get a little deep and not quite as flippant (though the jocularity is still there).  We've eached picked an album that represents are thoughts and/or feelings or at least really hits us in the feels.  Don't worry, though, it's not depressing. ;) Next week's episode continues Monty Python series 3. Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podbean.com/me...

Welcome to another Terrors Mead episode!  This time, we're tasting several meads from various meaderies and giving our thoughts.  More fun than anything, but the episode does give insight into tasting notes and styles of mead, as well as giving some ideas for all of you, with mead makers and such.  Included are: Ravenwood Meadery (Huntsville, AL), Crafted Artisan Meadery (Mogadore, OH), Charm City...

Welcome back to the Manor!  This week we get into one of Jody's biggest fandoms (and even James thinks its pretty darn good, too), Cowboy Bebop!  We talk about the original animated series and the one season series on a certain streaming service. Next week's episode is a Terrors Mead Tasting! Get in touch with us at Podbean:  https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-4pksr-a17e1a Or on Facebook:  htt...

Welcome back to the Manor and welcome back to another 50th anniversary Monty Python arc!  Series 3 turns 50 this year, so we're continuing the streak and getting into the details!  We give a lot of information about their university years, as well as our favorite bits from this series.  This episode covers Palin, Jones, and Gilliam's university years and episodes 4-7. Next week's episode is a Q&A...
